Hey guys!
It's been a long time, wow. But I got another request from SheWhoArisesinBeauty (thanks so much!) and so here I am! I apologize for the shortness of this one, but I thought it seemed like a good place to end. I apologize for any typos, I wrote this at 12:30 a.m. Anyway, I hope you like it!

You sat in the study of your family's home, engrossed in a book. Your father was out in the town square and your mother was visiting some friends, so you had the entire house to yourself. The house was silent, save for the sound of your family's maid in the kitchen and the turning of your pages. You hadn't been expecting any company, so it was a surprise to you when there came a knock on the door.
----
"Not your interest-" Samuel Seabury sputtered as the outspoken Hamilton yelled over him, quickly taking the center of attention. Samuel had been trying to give a speech, he hadn't been causing any trouble- he was just stating his opinion. It didn't make sense to him that the colonies should make war against England, of all nations. But then Hamilton came out of the crowd, and now here he was, shouting him down.
Samuel held up his hands in defense and began to back away, but was jostled by the crowd, someone purposely shoving him to the ground. He stumbled and fell forwards, scraping his hands and face on the cobblestone streets. As he tried to stand, he was pushed back down and hit the ground yet again, this time tearing his shirt. He finally managed to get out of the crowd and ran into an alleyway, where he tried to regain his composure. Where could he go now? The way home was blocked by protesters, and he certainly didn't want to go through that crowd again.
Then he thought of Y/n. The young lady who attended all his speeches, always treated him kindly. They had recently started courting, as he knew her father- perhaps he could pay her a visit. He could stay there at least until the group in the square dispersed.
Taking the back way, he walked briskly through the streets until he reached her front door. Straightening his coat and attempting to hide any scratches, he knocked on the door.

You stopped, looking up from your book. "Who could that be?" you muttered to yourself as you snapped the book shut and stood. "Father didn't say we were expecting guests..."
You walked down the hallway, meeting the maid as she came towards you.
"It's Mr. Seabury," she said softly, placing a hand on your arm. "Here to see you. He looks a bit roughed up."
"Thank you," you said, smiling at the kindly old woman. She had lived with your family ever since you could remember, and had almost been a grandmother to you. You were always sure to help her out when she needed it- it was getting more difficult for her to keep up with household chores.
She squeezed your arm before passing you and you continued down the hall, opening the front door. Before you stood a very disheveled-looking Samuel. His shirt was torn, his ascot smudged with dirt, and you even glimpsed a cut on his cheek, which he immediately tried to cover with his hand.
"Samuel?" you asked, surprised at his state. "What on earth happened?" You escorted him in the house, immediately leading him into the kitchen, where you dampened a rag and gave it to him to put on his cheek.
"It's nothing to be concerned about, really Y/n," he blushed, clearly embarrassed at his state. "No need to worry."
"You look as though you've been in a fight," you raised an eyebrow, sitting next to him and leaning closer. "Did someone try to hurt you, Samuel?"
"Like I said, Y/n, you don't need to be concerned..." He faltered under your stern gaze. "I was speaking in the town square and Alexander Hamilton shouted at me. He got the crowd excited, and they pushed me around a bit. But clearly I'm fine now," he added quickly, and your gaze softened as he assumed a proud stance but winced.
"Really, Samuel, they have no right to do that," you said soothingly, smiling at him with sympathy. "I'm sorry that happened. Would you care to stay for the afternoon?"
"I wouldn't want to trouble you," Samuel hesitated, causing you to laugh.
"We're courting," you chuckled, "of course it wouldn't trouble me. Come, I've been reading- you can join me. We have plenty of books," you smiled as your love's eyes lit up at the mention of books. Perhaps his afternoon could be made better after all.
