A new life, A new home

The heat around us was beginning to be unbearable. The lava grew closer by the moment, tears rolled down my eyes as I looked around me. We were truly trapped and no matter how hard I tried, I could not think of a way to get us out of this situation. We could hear screams and cries from the people that were still trying to escape but unfortunately it would be their final resting place. We were closed off from any means of escape. At least that's what we thought, then something happened I did not see coming. The ground below our feet began to crumble. Fear struck me deeper than it had before and just as I went to look at Milo, the ground below me dropped down. I could feel the weight of my body begin to go down and I knew this was it, I would die.

Then I felt a strong grip around my arm, my legs flailed in the air as I looked up and saw that Milo had grabbed a hold of me. Down below me was water and I knew that if he dropped me I would be boiled alive.

"The lava as you call it is getting closer, we either die by the fall or by the lava." Milo says as he looks from me back up to the lava.

"Jump, we have no choice, either way we die and I can't think of which way is better to go at the moment." I say as I look down and then I feel the same arm that Milo is holding pull me down.

He listened to me, he jumped and I was following right behind him. All of the memories I had of this place flashed before my eyes. First coming here and meeting Ali and then Milo, trying to save my sister or whatever she was, and falling in love with a man from the past. This was a horrible time to die. I was expecting the water to be boiling but once we fell down into it, instead it was cool and refreshing. Submerged in the water, I dared to open my eyes and look around. The water was a crystal clear blue and it felt as though I were on vacation on some tropical island. Looking up towards what I hopped was the sky, I swam up and broke through the surface of the water. Taking in a deep breath that my lungs desperately needed.

"Grace!" Milo's voice called out to me.

Turning my head in the direction I heard Milo I see him standing on what looked to be the beach of the under ground cave we had fallen into. How was the water not boiling though? It was like this place wasn't part of the ocean at all. Maybe it wasn't, looking back around the water it looked like we had fallen into a secret pool. Swimming up to Milo he checks me for any bruises or cuts and even any broken bones, yet I am completely fine.

"How did we survive this? Did you know about this place?" Milo questioned as he put his hand on my cheek.

"No, how could I? This place looks older than me." I say as I turn and wring the water out of my hair.

"I thought we were falling to our deaths and then we end up falling into some very deep pool." he sighs as he sits down at the edge of the pool. "How long before we can get back up to the surface?"

"I don't know, an eruption could last and incredible amount of time, why is the lava not coming down here though?" I ask looking up to the top of the hole we just fell through, the lava was going around it, at least that was what it looked like from my point of view.

"It won't come down here for some reason, we have to get out of here though."

"And go where? Even if we tried to swim in the ocean it would do us no good, the water would boil us alive. I think we are meant to live since for some reason we keep being saved." I tell Milo as I try to think of a plan.

Looking around, i can see what look to be a pathway of tiles on the ground before me. Unsure what else to do, I decide to follow them and hope they lead to a safe way out of here. The tiles were just normal tiles, nothing fancy about them but something deep down told me to follow them. When I came to the end of the tiles though, it was just another large wall in the cave. Who would put down a useless path of tiles? I was very frustrated now and sighed as I turned around and rested my back on the wall. Not even a moment later I heard a loud crack behind me, jumping off the wall I turn around and watch as the wall opens before me and there is an opening to the ocean and a boat tied to a small dock. Was this an emergency escape place? Milo ran over to me, no doubt hearing the wall open and looked at me completely shocked.

"You found a way out, I should have know you could do it." Milo grinned as he walked inside and I followed right behind him.

"Now we can sail out of here, but where would we go to?" I question as Milo checks the boats for any holes or leaking.

"Back to where I come from, that way I can keep you safe and you never have to worry about those Romans again." Milo answers without a second thought.

"How far away is that?"

Milo stops what he is doing and looks over at me. Shrugging her begins to try and think of how long the trip would be.

"A couple months at best, we will still need to get supplies though." Milo sighs as he goes into the ship.

"How is that possible without any money?" i ask as I climb aboard the ship.

Milo came back up from inside the ship with a big grin on his face. In his had he held an old bag. What could possibly be in that that could possibly help us out in the situation we are in? Taking my hands, Milo cupped them and then poured out the contents of the bag into my hands. It was gold, more gold then I had ever seen in my life. Looking up to him shocked I can't help but grin back at him.

"We are going to my home, I swear to you Grace I will take care of you and love you until the day I die. Never will you have to worry about this place or anyone coming to marry you just because that is what your father wants. I will be taking you to true freedom." Milo says as I try not to tear up again.

Gently taking my face in his hands, Milo leans in and kisses me. The emotion I feel just from this one kiss from him is almost too much. I trust him and I know that what he says is true, Milo had never lied to me before and now would not be the time that he would start. Kissing him back, we had a few moments to show our affection until we decided it would be best to leave.

Milo apparently knew how to sail, he set up everything and within a few hours we were sailing out of the hidden harbor. Once we got far enough away, I looked back to see most of the island was now on fire or covered by lava. Knowing that is would stay that way until France found it and then reburied it later. No one survived, none besides Milo and I. A pair of hands hugged me from behind as we looked to the island where we had first met. Pompeii would be a place I would never forget, no matter how hard I tried. It was the place I woke up completely lost and confused only to maybe find my true path in life. Now I was on a new adventure, one where I would go with Milo back to his home land, would I ever return to my own time? I had no idea, but i was going to live the life that god gave me, no matter what time period I was in.
