Runner up

Keira POV
I don't quite understand what's been going on.
After the spat in Sungakaru, the sand village, I figured since Takeshi was working twice as hard keeping me inline then I was to make sure to bend the line, we needed a break.
Closest village in our path was the leaf village, knowing that I lost my memory there and the Someone that gave me this oh-so-appreciated amnesia was still lurking around, like a creep, on the hunt for a bite of my cake.
And I personally don't like that.
But I like knowing things, meeting new people.
Hopefully making some new friends.
But, no.
I got all excited for nothing, because ever since I met Naruto and Duck-head and Sakura, I've been avoided like the plague!
Wait.
Do I have the plague?
Oh my god!
What if I have the plague and everyone knows it but me!!!
Hold on dairy, I will be right back, I am gonna go ask Takeshi.
I dropped my pen on the desk, flipping the well-weathered journal with a snap, dash in out of my apartment, my feet find in their way to Takeshi's bright red apartment door.
Bouncing up and down, I tapped my knuckles three times across the door
1 2 3 knocks
"Takeshi!"
1 2 3 more knocks
"Takeshi!"
1 2 3
"Takkessh....!"
I was cut off by a shirtless, sleepy man throwing his door open, and glaring at me, toothbrush hanging lazilly out of his foaming mouth.
"Eek! Rabies!!" I pushed the guy and jumped back, fist at the ready until...
"Owww!!! Keira! Christ on a crutch, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!?"
"Oh, that was you" I grinned sheepishly scratching the back of my head "Though you had rabies or something, just too many zombie movies I bet...."
Frowning I stopped, zombie movies? What is that?
Images of grotesque and bloody corpses shuffling and moaning across a TV screen came to mind, gotta remember to write that down.
"Keira, did you need something or do you just enjoy harassing me before you leave for training?" I shook my head and smiled at him, as he casually started brushing his teeth again.
"I think I have the plague." I stated plainly, soon given a look that really made me feel like an idiot. Well, what's new I guess?
"And because of your curious analysis, people are avoiding you, am I right?" He sighed walking back into his home to rinse his mouth out, me following obediently, nodding as he spat his toothpaste out.
"Look," I sighed and frowned, "They hate me, and I don't even know why, there has to be a reason." I played with the fringe of my blue shirt, then smoothing it out over my black leggings, which were tucked in my leather combat boots.
"Well," he turned leaning on his sink "I know for sure that it isn't because of the plague"
I pouted, how would he know anyway, I could have the plague, maybe.
"So what were you doing that gave you such an idea?" He walked into his room, patting a spot on the bed as he leaned into his tiny closet for a shirt.
"I was writing in my diary" I sat down and stared out the window, my hands combing my long brown hair out.
"You know, when I gave you that journal, I figured that if you wrote everything down, it would stir up some memory, or at least let you retain the ones you have" Takeshi, now fully dressed, sat beside me "Not fill your mind with conspiracy. Besides, I am sure that if you just go up and talk to someone.."
"Don't you think I have tried?!" I stood, balling my fists up "I have waved, smiled and introduced myself to everyone, including the Hokage's crazy grandson but that seem to make it worse! Always trying to hide the fact that they watch me, but I can just Feel their eyes burning holes in me. Its enough to drive a person mad!" I stomped and groaned loudly.
"Oh no, I had a meeting thus morning! I'm late!" Grabbing his bag, Takeshi scuttled out the door without even a word of advice, or even a hint that he actually listened.
Sighing, I walked my way back home, I loved that Takeshi is happy and has got a good job training the kids here, but he never seems to have time for me anymore, always working so hard.
I can't complain though, I have a couple friends and they seem to like me all the well, and why do I need the approval of all those other jerks in this village anyway, pshh.
I finished my entry up anSungakaru, the diary back up in my desk.
Checking the clock I plastered a typical silly Keira smile on my face and slammed my door behind me on my way to Naruto's apartment about ten steps to my left.
I am gonna make some more friends today, I swear.
-Time Skip-
Sasuke POV
That baka of a sensei, its been two hours since the arranged meeting time in the forest, what could he be doing that takes so long?
Sighing I leaned against a tree, the rough bark scraping my shirt.
The air here is oddly serene, the slight bickering of the dead last Naruto echoing, Keira's chiming laugh tinging in my ears, just like the songbirds making noise high above the trees.
For a while, I just watched my usually lame team with a bare emotion, something close to content maybe, not quite happy but satisfied.
This mindset, my laziness will make me weak, I need to .....
"Yo!" A smiling face threw my train of thought off its tracks, damn was I so caught up thinking that I could have been sneaked up on.
I tried to swallow my surprise and sneered at Keira.
"What is it?" I seethed a bit.
"Nothing," she sat down in front of me "I just wanted to talk to you, you looked kinda lonely." I scoffed loudly at that and smirked
I nearly growled, I wish I could hate her, maybe if I hated her, my stomach would settle and I wouldn't feel so much when I am near her.
But, truthfully, I kinda felt like smiling, she wanted to come and talk to me, not challenge me like the blond idiot or flirt like Sakura, I don't think I would mind though, if she decided to...
"Earth to Sasuke!!" Keira waved her hands laxly in front of my eyes, gazing oddly at me.
"What did you want to talk about?" I sat down, not even bothering to fight her boundless energy, I was gonna get roped into this anyway.
She shrugged "Dunno, what's new with you?"
I mockingly laughed, "What's new, really?"
She puffed up her cheeks and crossed her arms, and squinted grumpily at me, it was so cute I wanted to laugh.
No.
No, I didn't want to laugh, this brat wasnt cute, just an annoying girl, butting in my business, making a mess of my head.
"Fine, duck butt, what do you wanna talk about?"
Maybe how you came back, why you sacrificed yourself for the enemy, where you really came from, how you got here........
"Nothing" I looked away back at an adjacent tree.
"You are a real down pour, you know that?" She got up and left, returning to the bored Naruto.
I groaned, why was it so difficult, all these things I am feeling, the nauseas feeling in my stomach, the abnormal boosts of happiness, worry for no reason when I was perfectly safe, I don't understand it. I feel so let down, all she did was walk a couple steps away, I was the one who said it.
Naruto, even with the Keira that doesn't even remember him has always been better.
Better for her.
Better than me.
No, I clenched my hands furiously, I won't.
She doesn't remember, Sakura said she might now ever remember.
That means its a do over, I will make her feel what I feel. She won't die this time, I will protect her, I can get stronger than my brother and protect her.
I won't be a runner up this time.
