19. MISSION I̶M̶POSSIBLE

An entire week passed and Lisa was in the backyard making sure the preparations for the engagement party were up to standard. She waved her freshly manicured fingers around at the workers, gesturing where everything should be and how it should be set up. Though she was a little stressed, a satisfied smile was plastered upon her face. It was difficult to get divorced from her husband in a short amount of time, but the woman was content with her fiancé's connections as a lawyer, making the process more efficient.

Meanwhile April messily packed all her clothes in her suitcase, angrily folding her t-shirts and slamming them into the empty bottom. She felt betrayed, heart-broken and useless all at once. Her chest heaved from the amount of energy it took to be this pissed about what had happened in the past few days. However, she knew she couldn't confront Mark or Lisa about it – knowing that she should have listened to her late best friend's advice regarding hooking up with Mark.

The teen felt like Jason was looking down on her from Heaven, pointing his finger in a taunting manner as he said 'I told you so'. She wish she hadn't grown extremely attached to him, feeling like she brought her feelings upon herself. April made plans to move back to Oxnard and stay with her uncle, not knowing why her mother hadn't thought of the idea beforehand. Part of her blamed her mother, if she hadn't begged Mark to let April stay with him – none of this would have happened. She wouldn't have been assaulted, her long-time friendship wouldn't have ended abruptly, she wouldn't have gone through her friend overdosing and she wouldn't have gotten attached to a man who saw her as nothing but plaything.

Mark stumbled upon April who was now calmly folding the rest of her clothes. His eyes widened at the sight, walking inside and halting her arm, causing the girl to turn around.

"What are you doing?" Mark asked shocked as if she'd been packing up his items.

"None of your business." The girl jerked her arm away from her, turning around to place her last clothing item in the suitcase.

"April, are you serious?" He sighed, clenching his jaw.

"You're going to keep me here while you're married?" She rhetorically asked, already knowing his answer.

His brows furrowed in confusion, 'what did Lisa and I being married have to do with this?' the man wondered to himself, his lips pursing once he'd figured out the answer.

"Is this really about us, April?" Mark inquired, making it out to sound like she was overreacting.

Her blood boiled hearing him say those words. Of course it was just a hook-up to him, but he hadn't realized how attached April had gotten to him during their 'hook-up', she treated it like it was a healthy, monogamous relationship.

"April, look at me." Mark went to grab her arm again, watching her flinch away and look up at him with obvious pain in her eyes.

The man did feel bad for her, though he never asked her to get attached, which is what frustrated him. He couldn't believe that April genuinely thought the two of them were in a relationship.

"April," He called out, watching her slowly place the last t-shirt in her suitcase before looking back at him.

She looked at him with a gaze of betrayal, crossing her arms in order to appear cold and heartless. The teen clenched her jaw, hoping he would say what she wanted to hear despite the other part of her knowing he would never do that.

"Listen, I loved you, I really did. But it was just a hook-up. Whatever we had, it wasn't serious. April," He approached her, unfolding her arms and holding onto her limp hands before looking back up at her. "I'm so sorry you got attached, it should never have been that way and I never meant for you to get hurt."

It felt like a slap in the face. 'He didn't want her to get hurt in the end'?, if anything, April was convinced that he was planning to hurt her no matter what, it was just convenient that she brought the two of them back together, practically helping Mark.

All she could do right now was look at his face, feeling her vision become blurry along with her eyes starting to sting as tears began to roll out of them one by one. She quickly swiped them away, watching Mark's face becoming more pitiful than it was a second ago. The war of emotions raged in her head and distracted her from feeling Mark's embrace welcoming her head onto his chest, stroking her back in a comforting manner.

No matter how much shit he'd put her through, she was thankful that is was her head on his chest right now, knowing this would most likely be the last time. He placed an index finger and thumb beneath her chin, lifting her up so she would look at him.

"Please stay." He faintly stated, hoping his fiancé wouldn't have her ears glued to the door, listening to April's pity party.

And in that moment, something snapped inside of her. She felt like all her bottled up anger and hurt had to be let out one way or another, however, she needed to be smart about it. April nodded at Mark's request, flashing him a soft grin before wiping her wet cheek.

"I'll be back before midnight, if I'm not too drunk." Lisa chuckled, placing in the earring back as she looked at herself in the mirror, more so admiring herself than making an effort to enclose the pearl jewel.

"Well, try not to get too drunk," Mark approached her from behind, wrapping his hands around her waist. "You know how much I have to care for you." The man softly, seeing the redhead's flustered reaction through the mirror.

She slipped her feet into her Chanel heels, retrieving her black clutch from the dresser as her slender fingers glided through the loop on its frame. Lisa confidently sauntered out the door, making her way downstairs.

Meanwhile, Mark patiently waited for the front door to close, letting him know she'd left for sure. Once he heard the click of the front door, he casually strolled towards April's room, not wanting to seem desperate. He knocked on her door, anticipating her response.

Inside, April messily set up her phone on the messy piles of clothes she took out of her suitcase. Her heart was beating with adrenaline, though she needed to remain calm in order to seem less suspicious. Her ears sat up at the knock of the door, getting giddy with excitement off camera. She walked up towards her door, slowly sliding it open.

"Hey." April greeted, making it sound more like a question. She used to the door to cover her half naked body, believing Lisa to still be at home.

"Hey, can I come in?" Mark awkwardly inquired, rubbing the back of his neck rather uncomfortably.

The girl chuckled at his request, nodding her head as she hesitantly pulled back the door, going over to close it as he made himself comfortable in her room. She turned around and saw his eyes graze over her bikini-clad body. April wasn't big on wearing two-piece swimsuits, but figured it would be ideal for what she had planned for him.

"I was just about to go down to the pool, before asking Lisa of course." She lightly chuckled, going over to retrieve a cover-up while still making sure she somewhat tensed her body in the right places.

"I-If you want you're still welcomed to go," He couldn't help but stammer at her newly toned legs and pushed up breasts, never having seen her look this good even when she was fully naked.

"I think I'll just wait till the party's over, I honestly don't want to get on her bad side."

Mark nodded in agreement, pursing his lips as he stared at her bent over back shuffling through her suitcase for her cover-up. Once she couldn't find it, she figured she'd turn around and go change back to her usual clothes.

She walked up to Mark, looking up at him. Her brow jerked his lust and desperation coated eyes, causing her to hold back her smile. April used to feel somewhat validated when he'd stare at her like that, however, right now she felt excited to see how he'd easily fallen into her trap.

"I would, trust me, it's tempting, but I don't think Lisa wou-"

"She's not home." Mark bluntly stated, wrapping his hands around her waist and pulling her closer to himself.

"I-I know, but you guys are technically still engaged."

Mark sighed at her words, regretting his decision as soon as April had mentioned it. Of course, it wouldn't stop him from blowing out April's back, but he didn't want to repeat what had happened three years ago. However, Lisa wouldn't be able to know anyway – considering the fact that she was out with her friends and had a high chance of being so intoxicated she wouldn't be able to step a toe outside the venue she was at.

"Just for old time's sake?" Mark offered, hoping she would agree to his request.

She pretended to think about it for a while, pursing her lips as she looked up at him regretfully. In the end, she nodded, a shy smile plastering itself upon her lips.

Mark didn't take his time leaning in and passionately kissing her, having her underneath him on her bed in a matter of seconds. Meanwhile, all April could hope for was that they were in-frame of the camera that he – thankfully – hadn't noticed yet.

It was most likely going to be the last time they'd ever get to experience this, so he wanted to make it as memorable as possible, though April knew this would be the last time.

She felt euphoric as his hands pinned down her wrists to the bed, planting soft yet rough kisses all along her body, trialing downwards with each one getting more sloppier than the previous.
