Avoidance

"By order of the Sheriff, a county-wide curfew goes into effect tonight at sundown. All after-school activities are canceled until further notice. Students should go directly home at the end of the school day."

Will sighed at the announcement playing over the speakers of the school. The night before, his dad and the Sheriff found the remaining chimera bodies and brought them to the hospital.

He looked down the hallway and scoffed at the sight of two police officers walking through the school with shotgun."Way to make kids safe..." He muttered as he threw his last notebook into his backpack, looking to Corey next to him, who was waiting for him so they could walk to their classes together.

Corey stifled a laugh, shaking his head despite being nervous at all the commotion the Beast and Dread Doctors have caused.

"Will!"

Will and Corey turned their heads at the voice running towards them and Will felt his chest tighten when he realized it was Stiles.

When Stiles reached Will and Corey, he was a little out of breath. "Hi! You can go now." Stiles said to Corey, waving the boy away.

Corey gave Stoles a confused look before muttering a small bye to Will and walking away. Will was gonna stop Corey and tell him to come back, but before he could, Stiles turned to Will, his eyes wide and his jaw partially dropped.

"Will, what are you doing talking to one of them?" Stiles whispered in a slight disgust, using his thumb to point at Corey behind him.

Will's heart sank a little, his eyebrows creasing together. "One of them?" He asked and Stiles waved his hand around in an obvious manner. "Yeah, Theo and them. They're bad news." Stiles said and Will felt his chest tighten. How could Stiles, who has barely talked to him and still hasn't given him an explanation on what happened the night he died, stand there and tell Will what was good for him?

The bell rang and Stiles's eyes followed the intercom before he turned back to Will. "We gotta get to class." He muttered, slapping his hand onto Will's shoulder before dragging him to class.

...

After school, Will went straight home and went to his room to work on his homework. Being dead and struggling after coming back to life, Will fell behind on a lot of his classes. He was so in the zone, he didn't hear or smell anyone that wasn't Stephanie, Isaac, or his parents in the house.

Doing homework for a while, Will started to get really thirsty. He reached for his water bottle on his bedside and groaned when he lifted it and felt it empty. He closed his books, making sure to keep bookmarks in his pages before he headed downstairs.

As he walked into the kitchen, he past the living room, catching his whole packs attention. When Stiles saw Will, his whole body straightened up and he followed after the boy.

"Hey, Will wait!" He yelled, making Will turn around, his eyes wide at everyone standing in his living room. Stiles looked to Will out of breath, throwing his arms out to the side tiredly. "Where have you been?"

Will squinted at Stiles, looking up to the stairs to the direction of his bedroom before pointing in the direction with his thumb and turning back to Stiles. "Uh... upstairs." He said before looking to the rest of the pack. He could see a blue print spread across his coffee table and he took slow steps towards it. "What are you guys all doing?"

"We're planning to get Lydia out of Eichen." Scott said, a small smile on his face. He thought out of everyone, Will would be the one most excited about this plan. Lydia was his best friend after all.

And Will would've been excited for this plan... if anyone told him about it.

His eyebrows furrowed and he shook his head a little as he looked around his friends, a sad look on his face. "And you guys weren't gonna tell me?" Will asked, his voice quiet and disappointed.

Scott opened and closed his mouth in shock, not expecting Will to be upset. He looked down at the blueprint before turning back to Will and shrugging, "We didn't think you were ready. I mean... you haven't learned to shift or anything."

Will raised his eyebrows, crossing his arms over his chest. "Actually I do know how to shift. I learned like... a week ago." Will said, his once sad tone quickly turning annoyed.

Everyone was shocked by Will's words and straightened up. "What? How?" Stephanie asked as Isaac next to her watched Will closely, remembering when Stiles, Scott and Stephanie were all in New Mexico and he saw Will leave with Theo. It was like putting pieces of a puzzle together.

"With Theo." Isaac answered, his eyes glued on Will as he shoved his hands in his pockets.

All eyes went to Isaac for just a split second before they turned back to Will. He had an unreadable expression on his face but the fact that he never corrected Isaac just proved he was right.

Scott shook his head, walking towards Will, the rest of the pack a couple steps behind him. "Will, you can't hang out with Theo." Scott said, his voice low like a parent telling their child he can't do something.

Will scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Oh, like you guys are any better?"

Scott was visibly taken aback, his jaw falling and his eyes growing a little wide. His shock turned into hurt, a frown growing on his face as his eyebrows furrowed. "What is that supposed to mean?"

Will was getting angrier by the second. His jaw clenched as he shrugged his shoulders aggressively. "Well where were you guys?" He yelled.

Will took a step towards the pack, making all of them take a nervous one back. He raised his eyebrows accusingly at Scott. "New Mexico? At least he asked to help me!" Will yelled, making Scott and Stiles look away from Will.

He looked around at the pack. None of them would look him in the eyes except Stephanie and Isaac, who both had tears in theirs.

"You guys do know I died right? I was dead! For days! And now I'm back and you guys act like everything is okay! Like nothing happened!" Will yelled before quickly shaking his head. "Actually, no. You guys are just avoiding it! Avoiding me!" He yelled, each other his words making the room flinch.

His eyes landed on Liam just as the younger boy looked up at him. For a second, Will felt guilty for yelling at all of them. Not all of them deserved it.

But then he really thought about it. He couldn't think of a single conversation with Liam or Malia or Kira that didn't involve them apologizing for what happened the night he died.

The guilt washed away and the anger came right back. "Thank you to everyone who explained themselves or apologized, but besides that, none of you have talked to me!"

Will licked his lips and pointed to Stephanie and Isaac, but his eyes stayed on everyone else. "The only people who have are the two people who weren't even in the country when I died!"  He screamed as he looked around at everyone in front of him, waiting for them to say something. Anything. But no one spoke.

Will felt the anger in his gut grow and he frowned, shaking his head; he couldn't be there anymore. He turned to walk out of the home and rammed right into Stiles, who he hadn't looked at the whole time.

But looking at Stiles right then, the boy who was currently refusing to look Will in the eyes, only made Will feel worse. He raised his hand and pointed at Stiles. "You still won't look me in the eyes!" Will yelled as he pushed his finger in Stiles's chest, knocking the boy a couple steps back.

Stiles opened and closed his mouth, trying his hardest to get the words out, but they were stuck. Stiles shook his head, taking a small step towards him. "Will, wai-"

"What? Are you finally gonna tell me your side?" He yelled, interrupting Stiles and Stephanie's jaw slacked.

"Stiles, you haven't told him?" Stephanie asked, making Stiles and Will turn away from each other. Stiles opened his mouth to defend himself but he was cut off by Will scoffing.

"Everybody knows but me." Will muttered, shaking his head. He looked back to Stiles just as Stiles turned to him. There was a desperate look in Will's eyes as he raised his hand to his own head. "Do you know how much that has been messing with me?" Before he started shaking his head frantically. "What? Did you want me dead?" Will yelled, his voice cracking.

Stiles tilted his head, his eyes immediately tearing up at Will's words. He started shaking his head crazily, biting his lips to hold back any cry that may escape his lips. "Will, you know that's not it..." Stiles whispered, his own voice breaking.

"I don't know, Stiles! I don't know because you haven't told me anything!" Will yelled, his voice wavering from a yell to a cry. He pulled his lips into a line to hold back any unwanted noise as Stiles's face fell.

Will licked his lips, waiting for Stiles to speak. To finally defend himself. This was Will giving him the floor.

But Stiles just stared at Will.

The tears in Wills eyes finally fell when he blinked. He nodded his head understandingly. If Stiles wasn't gonna try, Will wasn't gonna push him anymore.

He took a small step away from Stiles and turned to the rest of the group. "Sorry if I'm acting a little off with you guys. But the feeling is mutual." Will spat, but his voice still quiet and shaky.

With that, Will turned around and walked out of his house.

As soon as the door slammed shut, Stephanie walked towards Stiles, her palms pushing into her eyes in aggravation. "Stiles, why haven't you told him yet?" Stephanie groaned.

Stiles looked between Stephanie and the front door Will just walked out of. He sniffled as he pointed to the door, looking back to Stephanie. "Look at him! I can't tell him! He'll freak out!" Stiles yelled and Stephanie looked at him like he was crazy.

"He's freaking out right now because you're not telling him!" She screamed, pointing to the door. Stiles shut his mouth and immediately looked away from Stephanie.

She took a deep breath, pinching the bridge of her nose. As she exhaled, she dropped her hands and looked up to Stiles. "I'm not losing my brother because you are scared to tell him. Either you tell him or I will."

...

Will didn't want to go home. He couldn't be home right now, not with everyone there. But he also knew that since coming back front he dead, his tempers been a lot shorter. He wasn't blind, he saw it and he hated it.

All he wanted to was lash out, but he knew he couldn't. His hands sat in fists, his nails puncturing his palms as he walked. He might not know how to control his anger as a werecoyote? but he knew how he would control it when he was human.

He just needed to talk to somebody. So he went to the first person he could think of.

Will nervously knocked on the door, his eyes on his shoes and he shifted his weight between his feet. He could hear footsteps getting closer and closer to the door and he could even hear the boy on the other side of the door grab the door handle and turn it.

Will looked up just as the door opened and he gave the boy in front of him a nervous smile. "Can I stay here for the night?"

Theo watched Will for a couple seconds, he could smell the sadness off of Will before he side stepped and opened the door wider for him to walk in. "Come on in." Theo said, a small smile on his face.

Will took slow steps into the Raeken home. He had never been inside before and he didn't really know what to expect. As he looked around the house, Theo closed the door, his eyes glued on Will.

"Why you leaving home?" Theo asked, making Will spin around, his eyes a little wide. "I'm not..." Will shook his head and looked around the room again.  "I'm not leaving home. I just can't be around them right now."

"What happened?" Theo asked as Will made himself at home and collapsed onto the couch. His head fell against the back of the couch tiredly as his whole body slumped. "I think they don't know how to talk to me anymore so they just... stopped entirely." Will muttered.

Theo sat down next to him as Will sighed, shaking his head. "I was right upstairs and they were planning to get my best friend out of Eichen House without me." Will complained and Theo had to hold back any reaction to what the packs plan was.

"They don't think I can handle it. Like I'm just... broken or something." Will said, resting his elbows on his thighs and putting his head in his hands.

Theo looked away from Will, but then he let out a small sigh. "They're scared." Theo muttered. It seemed like he was fighting to say the words. Will turned to face him as Theo continued to look at the ground and shake his head.

"You came back from the dead, Will. That's a lot for anyone to deal with. But if they think you're not ready... well, that's on them." He paused, glancing sideways at Will. "But look, Lydia is your best friend. If anyone should be the one to save her, it should be you."

Will blinked, caught off guard by Theo's words. But Theo continued, shrugging his shoulders. "If you want, we can get the whole pack to go. You, me, Corey, Tracy, Josh. We'll all be there for you to get Lydia out. You may not see them as your pick yet, but you're in theirs."

Theo sighed. "I'm not exactly a team player with Scott and them anyway. Besides, you've got something to prove. And... I get it. Sometimes, you just need someone who has your back." Theo chuckled, nudging him slightly with his shoulder. "Just don't get us both killed, okay?"

Will laughed, a small smile coming out with it as the weight on his chest lift just a little.

...

Will didn't go to school the next day, he went back home after finally cooling off and knowing none of the pack would be home. Even though it was killing him missing even more school, Theo reassured him that he needed a break and he would give him all of the notes and assignments he would miss,

Theo was standing in one of the aisle in the library, grabbing a book he'd need for one of his classes when he heard Scott and Stiles coming towards him.

"My Dad's got the lab working on the shoe prints. But, uh we're both kind of mystified about how giant clawed werewolf feet turn back into a pair of sneakers." Stiles said as they walked down the stairs of the library.

Theo heard Scott sigh. "Argent said it wouldn't be like anything we've ever seen before." Scott said and Stiles scoffed, their voices getting a lot closer.

"Did he say it was going to defy the laws of physics?" Stiles asked just as they got to the aisle Theo as standing in. They both froze, staring at him.

"What are you doing here?" Scott asked and Theo chuckled. He held up the book he needed for class and walked towards them. "I still need to graduate." Theo said and Stiles shook his head vigorously.

"No. No. What you need is to be beaten severely with a lead pipe wrapped in barbed wire—" "Okay, I admit that mistakes were made." Theo chuckled out, interrupting Stiles.

Stiles looked at Theo like he was crazy, his eyes wide and his jaw slacked. "Murders. Some murders were made." Stiles said and Theo rolled his eyes, turning his attention to mainly Scott.

"You know how the Soviets helped us win World War II? They knew how to make it through a Russian winter." Theo said and quickly, silence fell between the three boys.

Stiles awkwardly looked between Theo and Scott and when he was sure Scott wasn't going to make a comment, Stiles clapped his hands together and gave Theo a fake smile. "That it? Okay. Thank you, Theo. Very informative." He said sarcastically but Theo ignored him and continued to look at Scott.

"If you're planning to break Lydia out of Eichen House, you still need to get past the Mountain Ash." Theo said and even though they were both shocked on how Theo knew their plan, they hid it well.

"We can make it through. We have Stephanie and Will." Scott said, shaking his head dismissively.

Theo chuckled, his eyebrows raising a little in amusement. "You really think that'll be enough?" Theo asked before looking to Stiles, a smirk growing on his face. "And last I checked, you guys don't have a chimera. Not one that's talking to you at least."

Stiles clenched his jaw in anger and if looks could kill, Theo would be dead. Stiles took a small step towards Theo, angry that he brought Will into this. "What do you really want?" He asked, his voice low.

And again, Theo ignored Stiles and turned to face Scott. "I know you saw the fresco. Two seriously pissed off creatures, the Hellhound and the Beast, fighting over a pile of dead bodies. I don't want to be one of the bodies, it's that simple. I can get you to Lydia." Theo said but he shrugged carelessly and took a step away from the two boys. "Or we can see who gets to her first."

Stoles was practically bouncing in anger. "We don't need you or your pack. And we do have Will." Stiles said and Theo finally turned back to look at him. When Theo raised his eyebrows, Stiles only got angrier.

"You sure about that?" Theo asked, holding back a smile at Stiles's face reddening in anger. He turned around, book at his side and walked out of the library.

Stiles and Scott watched him go and once he was sure Theo was far enough to not hear them anymore, Scott turned to face Stiles. "There's no way he knows what Valack's doing." He said and Stiles licked his lips, shaking his head.

He turned to face Scott, pulling his lips into a line before he sighed. "If Will trusts him, then yeah. He knows what Valack's doing."
