A Trip to Mexico
"Ok, so how long has it been?" Will asked, leaning against Deatons table as he, Stiles and Lydia looked at Scott for an answer after he said Derek hasn't been seen. Scott sighed, looking down at the table as he tried to think. "Weeks. He hasn't gotten back to any of my texts."
Stiles rolled his eyes, his lips pursed slightly. "Has Derek ever returned your texts?" Will turned to him, giving him a 'really?' look as Scott sighed. "Once. Definitely once. But this time it felt different. So I went to the loft. The alarm was on. Everything looked okay. But then I found these. So I sent a picture of it to Deaton. He said that it's the mark of a family of hunters based out of Mexico. The Calaveras."
"What would they want with Derek?" Stiles asked as Will's eyes went wide, looking up at Scott. "You don't think they killed him, do you?"
This time, Stiles gave Will the 'really?' look as Scott sighed. "I... I don't know." He muttered before slowly turning to Lydia, pushing a some box in her direction. "That's why you're here."
Lydia slowly took the box. When she opened it, she sighed at the bullet casings. She reached into the box, grabbing a handful before her eyes shut as she let them fall out of her hands and onto the table. Her face fell as she flinched slightly.
"Lydia, what? Is he dead?" Will asked, noticing the almost scared look on Lydia face. The girl stared at the bullets, her head barely shaking. "No. But I'm not sure he's alive either." She whispered, making Stiles look at Will with wide eyes before looking back at Lydia. "What does that mean?"
"I don't know. There's something not right. I just... I don't know." Lydia mumbled with wide eyes.
"So if the Calaveras have him, how do we find them?" Will asked, shaking his head in confusion as Scott sighed, making the three turn to him.
"Mexico."
...
Will and Stiles watched as a taxi slowly passed them so they could cross the street of Mexico. Will sighed, looking around the street as Stiles smiled at him, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and pulling him to walk across the street. "This doesn't seem so bad."
Will turned to Stiles, squinting slightly since the sun was right behind him. "It's not the town, it's the plan." Stiles let out a playful scoff, turning to Will. "What's wrong with the plan?"
Will rolled his eyes, raising his brows at Stiles, a playful smile on his face. "This could be the stupidest plan we've ever come up with. And that's coming from me. You're aware of that, right?" Stiles sighed, looking ahead of them. "I'm aware it's not our best."
"Lydia said we are going to die." Will mumbled and Stiles turned to him with slightly wide eyes. "Did she say that as a Banshee or just being pessimistic?"
Will pulled his lips into a line, shaking his head slightly "I'm hoping the second one." Stiles nodded, patting Will's back. "Okay. Would you just mind restricting any talk of death while we're doing this stupid plan?"
Will nodded before he finally caught Stiles' words and turned to him with wide eyes. "So you do think it's stupid!"
Stiles sighed at Will's panicking state, he removed his hand from Will's shoulders and wrapped his fingers around Will's wrist. He squeezed Will's wrist, making the Saticoy boys heart jump, he looked down at their hands before looking back up at Stiles, letting in a small inhale as he nodded, walking to the doors of the club.
When Will and Stiles got to the doors, they were met with two bodyguards blocking their path.
The two boys gave the bodyguards awkward smiles before Stiles elbowed Will, telling him to hurry up. Will's eyes went wide, quickly nodding his head as he dug into his pocket. "Oh! Right!" He muttered as he pulled the small tarot card out of his pocket and showed it to the guards.
The guards looked at the card for a second before they turned to look up at the corner of the doorway. Stiles and Will followed where they were looking and saw a small camera. Will slowly lifted the card so the camera could see it and then a loud beep rang through the area, unlocking the door for the boys.
The bodyguards slowly opened the door, letting Stiles and Will in. Will's eyes went wide at the sight of the club, lasers and lights flashing, people dancing to the loud sound playing. He looked around in awe at the place.
Stiles didn't realize Will had stopped walking to look around until he was halfway to the bar. Stiles spun around in circles, trying to look for Will and when he finally did, he quickly sped towards him, grabbing his hand, interlocking their fingers and pulling him towards the bar.
The boys took their seats at the bar as the bartender started to make them some shots without them even having to ask. When the man slid the shot glasses towards the boys, Stiles sent him a small nod of thanks.
Will went to grab money from his pocket before a hand was placed on his and Stiles' shoulders. "No. On the house. Most American teenagers don't cross the border to refuse a drink." The voice said.
Will's jaw clenched as he slowly turned around to look at the man. "We didn't come to drink." As he kept his intimidating glare on the man, he dropped a small bullet casing with a skull on it into his shot glass, making the man freeze.
Before Will or Stiles could even process it, The man pulled them into a back room where an old lady was waiting for them, sharpening her knife.
"Severo hates this music. Me? I've always loved the music of youth. This kind, especially. It has a savage energy." The lady said as 'Severo' pushed Will and Stiles into two seats across from the lady.
"We're here for Derek Hale." Stiles said as Will looked around the room, trying to find a way to get out besides the doors they came in through that were now blocked.
"Is that so?" The woman asked and Will nodded, finally turning to her with a slight glare. "We know you have him."
Stiles sighed, reaching into his pocket. "We've heard you can be bought." He dropped stacks of cash onto the table, making the woman's eyes go wide. "It's 50,000 for Derek." Will said, nodding his head towards the money.
The woman turned Will, squinting as she tilted her head. "Now, where do two teenage boys like you two get money like this? Japanese mafia?" Before either boys could answer, she lifted a gun she had hidden under the table and set it down. "Not smart to come alone."
A big smirk grew in Stiles' face as he leaned forward slightly. "What makes you think we came alone?"
The woman almost instantly put two and two together, shooting out of her seat. "You brought a wolf into my home?" Will let out a small, airy chuckle, making the woman turn to her while he rubbed his eyes as he laughed. He slowly dropped his hand and smirked at the woman. "We brought an Alpha."
"My friends..." The woman started with a sigh as she walked around the table to stand behind Scott and Stiles, putting hands in each of their shoulders. "I don't think you're aware of your poor timing. Do you know what the dark moon is?"
Will turned to look up at her. "The part of the lunar phase when the moon is least visible in the sky." The woman nodded, watching Will closely. "Yes. But do you know its meaning?"
Will slowly nodded, looking in front of him. "Some people say it's a time of reflection. Or grief." The woman smiled, rubbing and shaking Will shoulder slightly, almost in a proud manner. "Grief and loss, mijo. I wonder why, when you and your friends have suffered so much loss, you would risk it again for someone like Derek Hale."
Stiles' jaw clenched at the woman, glaring slightly. "Cause we don't like to lose."
Suddenly, the static of a walker talkie came form Severo's belt. "Front door clear." The voice said. After a few seconds, another voice spoke. "South clear."
Severo nodded, waiting for one more confirmation. "North?" After a few seconds, 'North' finally spoke; but it wasn't a guard.
It was Scott.
"Will. Take 10 off the table." Scott said. The woman's eyes went wide, turning to Will as he smirked, grabbing a stack of cash and putting it in his jacket pocket. "Maybe you should just take the deal." Will whispered, leaning back into his seat as he crossed his arms. Stiles turned to Will and felt a small flutter in his chest at the sight before the woman spoke again, making him look away from Will and to her.
"While I'm keen to follow the warning of two teenage boys, I'm going to have to decline." The woman said, making Stiles groan. "Just give us Derek. You don't want him anyway. Haven't you noticed what a downer he is?"
Will nodded, pointing his thumb at Stiles. "He's right. I mean, no sense of humor, poor conversationalist, he does that thing were he just stands their awkwardly and stares into your soul. Just come on, take the money."
Suddenly, the guards that were once standing in front of the doorways ran outside, making the lady smirk. She slowly turned to Severo and nodded. "Severo? Show them how the Calaveras negotiate."
Severo nodded, opening the door wider to show Scott, Malia, Kira and Lydia all lying on the ground in pain. Severo walked up to Scott, tasing him until he was out cold.
The lady turned to Stiles and Will before looking at two bodyguards behind them. She nodded and suddenly the two teens were pulled out of the chairs and out of the room by the guards.
The lady followed them out and she turned to Severo, nodding her head to the barely conscious Lydia. "I want the Banshee." Severo nodded, picking Lydia up, making Will try to get out of the men's grasp, not wanting to leave her. "Hey! Don't touch her!"
The Calaveras ignored Will's yells, throwing him, Stiles, Scott, Malia and Kira into another room, locking the door.
...
"He's awake. Guys, he's awake." Stiles yelled as Scott's eyes started to lift open. Will and Kira, who were talking about a book they had both read, ran towards Scott as Stiles and Malia helped him sit up.
"Scott, you okay?" Will asked, squatting down next to Stiles to look at the alpha. Scott slowly tried to catch his breath as he nodded. "Yeah. They... They don't have him. They don't have Derek."
Stiles sighed, looking at Will before looking back at Scott. "We know. But right now, they've got Lydia." Scott's brows furrowed and he instantly sat up. "Lydia? What do they want with Lydia?"
Will shrugged as Malia looked around the room, trying to look for a way out before she nodded, turning back to the group. "I say when that door opens again, we take out whoever's standing in the way and run for it."
Will slowly stood back up as Scott and Stiles followed after, looking at Malia with faces of confusion. "What about Lydia?" Scott asked and Malia shrugged. "What about her?"
Will sighed, rubbing his forehead as Stiles looked at her like she was crazy. "We're not leaving without her." Stiles said, making Malias face scrunch. "Why not?"
"Oh my God." Will whispered, pinching the bridge of his nose as he walked up to Malia. "Because we don't leave without people. Remember, we talked about this? Rules of the wild kingdom don't apply to friends and or family.
"Is that what you would do as a coyote, leave her for dead?" Kira asked, looking at Malia worriedly. Malia pursed her lips, nodding obliviously. "If she was weak and injured, yeah. If hunting had been bad that season, I would eat her. Then I'd leave."
"Shut her up. Shut her up!" Stiles whisper yelled and Will quickly covered Malia's mouth before letting out an awkward chuckle, pointing at her. "Believe it or not, that's progress."
Scott looked at Will, giving him a 'really?' look before sighing, shaking his head. "All right, guys, we're not dead yet. And that means Araya wants something." Will turned to Scott, removing his hand from Malias mouth. "But if the Calaveras don't know where Derek is, that means they didn't take him from the loft. Right?"
"Maybe he left on his own." Malia said, shrugging as Stiles' eyes widened slightly. "Maybe someone else got to him."
The doors to the room the kids were locked in opened and the five teens turned their heads and saw Severo and three other men run towards the group. Severo held Malia back as another man tased Scott. Kira went to run towards the man tasing Scott when another one came up behind her, wrapping arms around her so she could get to him.
As Scott fell to the ground, Will and Stiles went to go and help him but the man that had tased Scott, turned on the taser again, pointing it at the boys. Will and Stiles instantly backed away.
After that, the men pulled Kira and Scott out of the room, leaving Malia, Stiles and Will.
Malia groaned, slowly falling to the ground from the full moon getting to her as Will and Stiles ran towards her. "Are you okay?" Will asked, looking at his cousin with wide eyes.
Malia shut her eyes in pain, groaning slightly. "I... I can't. I can't concentrate. I... There's too many sounds and voices." Will nodded, watching as her nails started to grow into claws. "Okay. It's okay. Well, just breathe. Breathe with me, all right? You practiced this with Scott and Steph before, remember?"
Malia tried to steady her breathing for a few seconds before she groaned, the noise almost sounding like a growl. "I'm trying."
"Malia, whatever you can do to concentrate. Here grab my hand." Will said, opening his hand out and Malia instantly grabbed it, claws out. Will yelped in pain as Malias nails went into his skin. He slowly turned to Stiles, pulling his lips into a line in pain. "We should've had someone that can heal faster to deal with her."
Stiles winced for Will, rubbing his shoulders before noticing Malia calm down slightly, making him look at her with wide eyes, keeping his hands on Will shoulders. "Can you hear Kira, Lydia, anybody? What are they saying?"
"Kate." Malia said, a small laugh of pride passing her lips that she could concentrate long enough before noticing Stiels and Will's shocked faces. "What? What's wrong?"
"That's impossible. It's impossible." Stiels muttered, turning to Will to find him already looking at him. "That can't be what he said, right?" Will whispered to Stiles who just shrugged, making Malia feel left out of the loop.
"Why? Who... who's Kate?" Malia asked, looking back and forth between Stiles and Will.
"She's a hunter." Stiles said, making Will slowly nod, turning to Malia. "An Argent."
...
"So what now?" Stiles asked as Scott walked towards the group, all of them finally free from the Calaveras. Scott sighed, shrugging as he squinted his eyes at the bright light of the sun. "She thinks she knows where we can find Derek."
"She gonna tell us where?" Will asked, shock taking over his face. Scott turned to Will, shaking his head as a small, breathy laugh escaped his lips. "Uh, actually, she's giving us a guide."
As if on cue, the sound of a motorbike rang through the alley and from down the road, the group could see someone coming towards them. Once the biker was in front of the group, they took off their helmet, revealing Braeden.
Will let out a small laugh, nodding. "No way..." He breathed out, making Malia turn to him in confusion. "You know her?"
"Braeden." Stiles muttered in shock, confusing the Yukimura girl. "Who's Braeden?" Kira asked, leaning towards Will.
"She's a mercenary. She saved Isaac." Will breathed out and Braeden nodded, turning to Kira. "Right now, I'm the only one who's gonna take you to la iglesia." Kira's face scrunched at Braedens words. "The Church?"
"What's The Church?" Will asked, turning to Braeden as she got on her bike. "It's not a place you'll find God." Braeden muttered.
...
"Okay, I'll ask." Malia asked after going annoyed with the quiet that settled in the car. Everyone besides Stiles turned to her as she asked her question. "Who's Kate Argent?"
"Uh, I'd like to know, too." Kira said, awkwardly easing her hand as she sat squished in between Scott and Malia. Stiles sighed, drumming his fingers in the steering wheel slightly. "Well, we were at her funeral. So, I'd like to know how she got out of a casket that was buried six feet underground." Stiles looked into the rearview mirror to lock eyes with Scott but the McCall boy only shrugged.
"She was Allison's aunt. And a total sociopath." Lydia muttered from the other side of Malia, making everyone turn to her as Kira sent her sympathetic eyes. "You don't have to talk about it now if you don't want to."
Malia turned to Kira with wide eyes, nodding her head before turning back to Lydia. "Um, yes, she does."
Scott sighed in defeat, looking at Will and Stiles through the rearview mirror as he nodded. "Yeah, she's right. You guys should know. You need to know." Stiles' lips pursed, nodding his head. "All right. Kate was the one who set the fire that killed most of Derek's family."
"Some of them survived, like Cora, and Peter. A very angry Peter." Will said as he rested his hand against the car window.
Scott nodded, turning to his left to look at Malia and Kira. "Yeah, he's the one who bit and turned me." "And the one who finally caught up to Kate and killed her." Will said, making Stiles nod.
"And we all saw her buried." Stiles said, making Will instantly shook his head. "No. Just you and Scott. Steph and Lydia were still lost in the woods and I was at lacrosse practice because you know... I wasn't on the bench." Will said, muttering the last sentence but Stiles still heard him, sending him a small glare.
Suddenly Scott's eyes went wide as he slowly shook his head, hitting the back of Stiles' seat. "No. We saw a casket, remember? She doesn't mean she was in it.
The Calaveras heard that Kate had been killed by an Alpha's claws. They wanted to make sure she was really dead. Her body was healing. More and more, as she got closer to a full moon. She was coming back. So they switched out the bodies. If a hunter is bit, they have to take their own life before they change. The Calaveras, they treat the code like law. They make it their responsibility to enforce it."
"Good for her. I wouldn't do it either." Malia said, shrugging. Stiles pursed his lips, turning around slightly to look at Malia. "Would you kill half a dozen people to get out? Because that's what she did."
Malia shrugged at his question as Will's brows furrowed, turning around to Scott. "So Kate's a werewolf now?"
Scott looked up at Will before he sighed, shaking his head slightly. "I don't know. You know, there's a saying, sometimes the shape you take reflects the person you are."
Lydia snickered at his words, looking out her window. "What kind of shape is sociopathic bitch?"
Suddenly, the Jeep jolted and everyone flew forward slightly. The sound of the tire hissing echoed through the car as it started to slow.
The group instantly got out of the car, Stiles and Will running towards the hood to see what was wrong.
"What happened?" Braeden yelled, parking her bike before running to the teens. Will ran his hand through his hair, already feeling the heat getting to him as he turned to her. "I don't know. It felt like we hit something."
Braeden nodded before her eyes drifted to Stiles struggling to even keep the hood of his Jeep up. She sighed, turning to Scott. "Scott, we need to get there by night. It's too dangerous otherwise."
Scott looked at Braeden with wide eyes before turning to Stiles and Will who were huddled over Stiles' Jeep to see what was wrong with it. Stiles nodded to Scott, gesturing for him to go. "Go."
Scott almost instantly shook his head. "Not without you two." Will rolled his eyes at Scott, tilting his head. "Dude, someone needs to find Derek. We'll figure something out. We always do. Just go." Will said, making a shooing motion at Scott. The alpha looked over the group for a few seconds before running towards Braedens bike, leaving the rest of the group at Stiles' Jeep to work on it.
"Guys?" Malia called out. Will's brows furrowed as he leaned over the hood of the car to see Malia squatted down by the tire, her hand right above it as if she were trying to grab something.
"I don't think we hit something. I think something hit us." Malia muttered before she pulled her hand out from above the tire, a foot-long talon in her hand, making Will's stomach drop. "Holy shit."
...
After about 20 minutes of working with Stiles and Lydia on the Jeep, Will grew frustrated with the twos bickering and went back into his seat in the passenger seat, falling asleep.
Kira frowned at the darkening roads, turning around to look at Stiles, who was working in the Jeep and Lydia, who was holding a flashlight for him. "Maybe we should just walk."
Stiles whipped his head to Kira, pointing an accusing finger at her. "Hey, I will never abandon this jeep. You understand me? Ever. Ever." Stiles yelled before nodding his head to the inside of the car. "Will? Agree with me." He yelled, not knowing Will wouldn't answer.
"Will's asleep." Lydia mumbled to Stiles, making him sigh. "God."
A small break of a twig made Malia turn her head towards the woods, she sensed another presence with the group, making her slowly turn to Stiles. "Work faster, Stiles. There's something out here with us."
Stiles looked at Malia with wide eyes, nodding nonetheless and going back to work although he couldn't pay attention for that long considering Lydia's hand was shaking, making the light for him to see bounce around.
"Lydia, could you please hold the light still for a second? It's really hard to see anything if you keep shaking it like that." Stiles groaned, waking Will up from his nap. He rubbed his eyes as watched Stiles as he was leant over the hood, barely being able to see his face with Lydia's shaky hand holding the flashlight.
"I'm shaking it like this because we're in the middle of nowhere with your broken down jeep and we're being attacked by yet another razor-clawed monster. And I'm terrified." Lydia cried out, making Will silently groan, slowly getting out of the Jeep and standing beside Stiles as the Stilinski boy glared at Lydia slightly. "Well, just be slightly less terrified."
"Gimme it." Will muttered, leaning over the hood so Lydia could pass him the flashlight. Lydia gave him the flashlight and Will almost instantly put the light in the right place for Stiles, knowing where he was working from all the times the Jeep had broken down.
Stiles let out a grateful sigh, turning to Will with a small smile as he nodded. "Thank you, Will. See? This is why you're my favorite. And hold this." He handed Will two things from inside the hood. Will went to grab one of the objects in one hand and put the other under his arm before realizing putting the car piece under his arm could stain his clothes from the oil.
Will sighed, not wanting to stay in his clothes and instead put the end of the flashlight in his mouth and grabbed the two things from Stiles.
The Stilinksi boy looked at Will with the flashlight in his mouth with wide eyes before clearing his throat and going back to work.
"What is that?" Lydia asked, her brows furrowing at the two car pieces in Will's hands. Will and Dtirls both shrugged as Stiles looked up at Lydia for a bare second. "I don't know. I'm hoping it's not important."
"What?!" Will yelped, his words muffled slightly from the flashlight in his mouth before Malia roared.
Will's head whipped to Malia, dropping the car parts as the flashlight fell from his mouth when he watched Malia run into the woods. "Malia, wait!" Will yelled as Kira ran after her. Will went to run after her too before Lydia stuck a hand out, stopping him. "No!" She yelled before turning to Kira retreating figure. "Kira, go! You two. Fix the jeep."
...
After finally fixing the Jeep and Kira and Malia came back, the group headed on their way back to their destination to meet with Scott and Braeden.
"Malia, please don't do that ever again!" Will yelled, spinning around in his seat in the passenger side to look at Malia in the backseats squished between Lydia and Kira.
Malia's brows creased, looking at Will in confusion. "Do what?" Will was still trying to catch his breath, the worry of his cousin in danger slowly fading. "I... I thought you just ran."
The werecoyotes face scrunched, nodding her head in an obvious manner. "I was running." Will sighed, shaking his head. "No, I mean, like, I thought you left again. Like when we were little."
Malia's face slowly fell in realization, looking off at the ground before looking back up at Will with a reassuring smile. "I wouldn't leave without you. I would never leave without you. You're my family. My second-favorite cousin."
Will smiled, calming down before a small smirk played on his lips as he tilted his head. "I'm gonna tell Steph you said that." Malia squinted at him as if he were crazy. "You know I only have two cousins. You and her. She's my favorite."
Will's lips pulled into a line, turning back to face the front as he rested his head on his fist. "Well, at least you aren't punching me every time you see me anymore." Will muttered before getting punched by Malia right after; the girl making sure to punch the arm that was holding up his head so his hand would slip and his head would fall.
"I stand corrected."
"That doesn't look good." Lydia announced and Will looked at Lydia through the rear view mirror to see what she was talking about. When he saw she was looking down at Malia's side, he turned around and winced at the scratches around Malia's side.
Malia pursed her lips, shaking her head at the strawberry blonde. "It's okay." Kira looked at Malia's injury with wide eyes before looking up at her. "Are you sure? It looks deep." Malia turned to Kira, nodding her head before turning forward. "I can feel it healing."
"You didn't see anything?" Stiles asked, not letting his eyes leave the road as Malia shook her head. "Barely. It had a strong scent, though."
Will's brows furrowed, turning around in his seat for a third time to look at Malia. "Like what?" Malia gulped, turning to Will. "Like death."
...
A soon as the group got to the Temple, they ran out of the Jeep and towards the entrance as Scott and Braeden slowly walked out, a body in between them.
Will instantly noticed that the body was too small to be Derek's as his steps slowled, confusing his cousin. Malia turned to him, her brows furrowed. "Is that him? Is that Derek?"
Will's brows were furrowed like Malia's before a small sigh from Stiles made him turn his head. "Uh, sort of." Stiles muttered. Just as Will was going to ask what he meant, the body slowly lifted their head, revealing a younger Derek.
