A Bit Odd

When Will got a call from Theo at four in the morning telling him to meet him at the school, he was not happy. In fact, Will went back to sleep.

It wasn't until Theo sent him fourteen more texts saying it was an emergency that Will finally listened. Apparently a new chimera, a beast, was seen at the school and Theo wanted to find it. Will walked down the quiet and halls with Theo and Tracy. He was confused, the school looked untouched.

Will turned to looked at Theo with furrowed eyebrows. "Did you see it?" Will whispered and Theo, keeping his eyes in front of them, shook his head. "It was too fast."

Will felt a small bit of anger grow in his stomach. Theo insisted on him coming here and he hadn't even seen the beast. Will clenched his jaw and kept his eyes on Theo angrily. "But it's here? Right?" He asked, his voice louder and harsher now.

Theo finally looked at Will and nodded his head. He picked up quickly that since being revived, Will has had a shorter temper and he did not want to be on Will's bad side when he snapped.

"Yeah. So keep your distance." Theo warned, sticking his hand out and pushing Will behind him. "We're not trying to catch it. Not yet." Theo whispered before his eyes fell on a pile of smoking dirt against the lockers a couple feet away from them.

Slowly, Theo walked towards the dirt, Will and Tracy hot on his trail. When he got close enough, Will started to realize that dirt spelt something out.

"Damnatio Memoriae"

Tracy recognized the words from the night prior when her, Theo, Josh, and Corey attacked Stiles, Scott and Stephanie in the Argent tunnels. She turned to Theo and noticed the wide eyed look on his face. "It's the same message, isn't it?" She asked and even though Theo didn't answer, she knew she was right. She looked down at the writing and shook her head. "What are they trying to tell it?"

Theo's jaw clenched. "Trying to get it to remember who it was." He muttered through his teeth. Wills eyebrows furrowed, he wasn't too sure how everything worked with chimeras and the Dread Doctors, but he was sure all chimeras were teens who were medically chimeras.

"But isn't it just a teenager like us? Isn't it just a kid underneath?" Will asked and Theo huffed and started to walk away. Will and Tracy turned to each other before quickly following after Theo.

"They don't care about that. The Doctors, they needed a body because they couldn't resurrect the Beast out of thin air. That kid underneath, whoever it is, just a side effect. All the Doctors care about is the Beast." Theo explained as they walked down the hall.

Will felt a small tug in his chest. Whoever this kid was would be erased, the Beast of Gevaudan being the body's main host if the Beast can remember its past life.

"I read that the Beast of Gevaudan killed 113 people. Is that true?" Tracy asked Theo as they turned down the hallway. Theo was about to open his mouth to speak but Will beat him to it, shaking his head.

"No." He blurted, making Tracy and Theo turn to him. Will remembered reading about the Beast of Gevaudan with Allison back in sophomore year when they were still trying to figure out what Steph was. He turned to Tracy, a nervous look on his face. "It's closer to 500."

Suddenly, Will felt goosebumps trail up his arms and the back of his neck. He shivered at the feeling and just before he could question it, he heard the clicking of the Dread Doctors down the hallway.

Will froze and his stomach churned. Theo could sense not only Wills fear but Tracy's as well and took a small step forward. Will watched his wife eyes as the three Dread Doctors turned the corner of the hallway and stood just a few feet away from him, Theo, and Tracy.

"Leave." The Dread Doctor in the middle told Theo, but the boy wouldn't back down. He took a step closer to the Doctors desperately, shaking his head. "Where is it?"

"You already have your pack." The Surgeon said and Theo shook his head frantically, his jaw clenched. "It wasn't enough. Look at my eyes. They look red to you? Theo yelled before his eyes turned yellow. Wills eyebrows furrowed. If Theo did have a pack, why wasn't his eyes red.

"I'm not an Alpha. I'm not even a real werewolf." Theo snapped as Will started to notice the ground shake every couple seconds as if something big was walking towards them. He was able to hear the footsteps the closer they got and smelt a seventh person.

Suddenly, the Beast appeared behind the Dread Doctors. He was huge, barely fitting in the high-ceiling school. Will practically felt his heart drop at the sight of the chimera.

"Holy shit." Will muttered, scooting forward to be in front of Tracy. He felt the girl follow his actions, scooting behind him until she was safe, peaking over his shoulder to see the Beast right before her eyes.

The two watched, completely frozen in fear as the Beast walked closer and closer to Theo, ultimately getting closer to them too.

The beast roared and Will's hands slapped over his ears, clutching them in pain and shutting his eyes tight from how loud it was. He felt the ground shake beneath him and his heart practically leap out of his chest in fear.

When the ground started to stop shaking and the muffled roar started to die out, Will opened his eyes, and the doctors and the beast were gone.

...

Three hours later, Will was back at school. This time, for class.

Will was sure he wanted to kill Theo for his lack of sleep. His head pounded and his eyes burned from his tiredness. He sat in history class, barely paying attention to his teachers words as he rested his head in his hand to try and stop everything from spinning.

"Has anyone seen Stiles or Scott McCall?" Mrs. Flemming asked as she walked around the room. She noticed Will in a new seat, no longer sitting in the spot where Stiles's current empty seat was.

"Can't be the only one who thinks it's slightly coincidental they're both sick on the same day?" She said as she walked towards Will's seat. The boy looked up when he noticed her voice get louder just as she got to the edge of his desk.

Mrs. Flemming frowned at bags under the boys eyes and how distant he looked. After dying and coming back to life, Sabrina and James told the school Will was gone for medical reasons. She gave him a small smile, one filled with pity that made Will's heart sink.

"Good to have you back, Will." She said and Will gave her a weak smile back. The woman's eyebrows raised and she tilted her head as if she were talking to a toddler that hid something she needed. "Do you know where the boys are?"

Will looked back down to his desk and his tongue poked the inside of his cheek. "I haven't heard from either of them today." He muttered. He actually hadn't heard from either of them in two days, but that wasn't Mrs. Flemming's problem.

Will felt a small pit of anger and sadness bubble in his gut. No one's really made an effort to talk to him since he literally died and came back to life.

"That's because they don't want you back in the pack."

"They didn't answer because they wanted you to die."

"They don't care about you."

Will blinked hard, shaking his head slightly as if it would help clear his thoughts.

"And Lydia Martin wasn't in class today either. Do you know anything about that?" Mrs. Flemming asked, remembering not seeing Lydia earlier in the day and knowing her and Will were very close.

Will gulped, his heart aching thinking about how Lydia was stuck at Eichen House. He gently shook his head, not meeting Mrs. Flemming in the eyes. "She won't be in for a while. Medical issues." He muttered.

Mrs Flemming could tell Will was off. She decided to not question him anymore and simply leave him alone. She gave him a single nod and started to walk back to her desk.

As she walked away, Will's phone beeped in his pocket. Keeping his eyes on his teacher, Will pulled out his phone and once it was sitting on his thigh he looked down at his new text from Theo.

"Transformation tonight?"

Will looked up from his phone and subtly turned around until he could see Theo who sat a couple seats away from him. When they locked eyes, Theo's eyebrows raised, silently asking him if he wanted help transforming into a coyote.

Will knew he needed the help. He had watched Malia transform hundreds of times before but it wasn't like she explained everything that happened. He needed steps.

Will nodded his head and Theo smiled, turning back to Mrs. Flemming to give her his undivided attention.

Will stared at Theo for a couple seconds after. Part of him genuinely did trust him. He had only officially been in the pack for a little over a day, but Theo and the others have been way more caring and understanding then Scott and his pack were.

Maybe he didn't choose the wrong side...

...

After school, Theo drove Will home to drop off his backpack before he helped him transform into a werecoyote. Will quietly walked up to his front door. He could only smell Isaac inside but he couldn't pinpoint where he was. Carefully, Will unlocked the door and walked inside.

His plan on going unseen was ruined when he saw Isaac sitting on the couch right by the door. Will decided to try his best to act casual and walked in completely. "Hey, Is." Will said, standing at the back of the couch as he looked up the stairs of his home.

"Where's Steph?" Will asked as Isaac maneuvered himself around so he could face Will.

"New Mexico with Scott and Stiles. They're gonna go try and get Kira." Isaac said and Wills heart dropped. All of them left? He licked his lips and looked to the ground as the little voice he started to hate in his head spoke,

"They don't care about you."

"They didn't even stay to check on you."

"Stiles didn't stay to be with you.

"He still won't talk to you."

"Stiles hates you."

Will blinked rapidly, trying to shake the thoughts out of his head. He looked back to Isaac and nodded.

"Oh, okay. Well, I'll be back. Just dropping this off." Will said, throwing his backpack onto the couch next to Isaac. As Will started walking towards the door, Isaac shot off the couch and followed him, his eyebrows furrowed.

"Hey, Will?" Isaac called out. Will stopped just as his hand grabbed the doorknob. He turned to face Isaac, trying to keep his expression positive even though he could smell the worry coming off of Isaac.

"Yeah?" Will asked and Isaac frowned a little.

"Are you okay, man?" Isaac asked and Wills eyebrows furrowed. Isaac shoved his hands into his pockets and took another step closer to Will. "You're just... you're acting a bit odd." Isaac said before he quickly shook his head. "I mean, you have every right to be after everything but..." Isaac looked to the floor and shrugged. "That doesn't mean you have to hold it all in."

Will stared at Isaac's feet. He knew the boy was being honest. It was like a punch in the gut.

"Speak up."

"Tell him."

"Talk to Isaac."

It was like a devil and angel sitting on Wills shoulders, the two of them fighting for Will to listen to them and not the other.

But the devil overpowered the angel. Will's jaw clenched and he swallowed the lump in his throat. He looked back up at Isaac and nodded.

"I've got it." Was all Will said, opening the door and walking out of the home. Isaac followed Will until he reached the doorway. He froze when he saw Theo parked outside waiting for Will.

His eyebrows furrowed together as Will climbed into the passenger seat and Theo pulled away. "What the hell..."

...

"Come on, Will. Focus." Theo snapped, getting annoyed and tired. "You're not going to turn if you keep panicking like this."

The two of them had been in the middle of the woods for about an hour trying to get Will to transform, but Will was too nervous to. Will swallowed hard, his hands trembling slightly. "I'm trying, Theo. It's just—" He took a shaky breath, trying to steady the pounding in his chest. "It's just not happening."

Theo rolled his eyes, his patience wearing thin. "You need to stop thinking about it so much. It's instinct. You're a werecoyote, Will. Just let it happen."

Will clenched his fists, feeling the familiar surge of frustration bubbling up inside him. "Easy for you to say." He muttered under his breath, his temper flaring. "You've been doing this for years."

Theo's expression softened slightly, but his voice remained firm. "Yeah, and I've been through this too. You think I didn't struggle? I get it. But you have to push through it. Stop fighting yourself. You've got this."

Will looked at Theo for a couple seconds and listened to his heartbeat. Will's frustration twisted into determination as he closed his eyes, inhaling deeply. After a couple deep breaths, Will opened one eye. "When I turn back into a human, you've gotta turn around. I don't want you to see me naked and everything."

Theo chuckled, nodding his head. "Got it." He laughed out and Will closed his eyes again. His breathing slowed, and he could feel a slow ache in bones and muscle.

Theo watched carefully, smiling slightly as he watched Will's body began to contort, and in a blink of an eye, a small coyote stood where Will once was.

Theo's lips curled into a big smile. "That's it. You did it."

The coyote that was Will looked up at Theo, panting before he growled, telling Theo to turn around.

Theo's eyes widened and he quickly turned around. After a moment, Will began to revert back, the fur receding, the snout shortening, until he was once again standing on two legs, breathless and exhilarated. He quickly threw on his clothes and Theo turned back around just as Will put on his shirt.

"I did it." Will whispered, more to himself than anyone else. Will looked up from his legs to Theo, who was also smiling at Will. Then, with a burst of energy, he rushed toward Theo, his face lighting up. "Theo, I did it!"

Theo barely had time to brace himself before Will collided with him, pulling him into a tight hug. For a split second, Theo stiffened, not used to the sudden affection, but then he let out a surprised laugh. He patted Will's back, his hand lingering a little longer than he intended.

"Yeah, you did." Theo said, his voice softer now, almost proud. "Good job, Will."

Will pulled back, his grin so wide, his face was starting to hurt as Theo shrugged, trying to downplay the moment, but the small smile on his face gave him away. "Just don't make a habit of hugging me, okay?"

Will laughed, and for the first time in days, he felt like everything was going to be okay.
