"Wow, you're a terrible boyfriend," Hestia said to her brother, nose crinkling in disgust.
Hermes refused to spare a glance at her ridiculously bright ombré colored hair and kept reading the case report. "I picked her up just yesterday, illegally smuggling her inside the magical borders. All that just so we could spend more time together."
His little sister snorted. "You say that, but you leave Katherine by herself to scour the city on Valentine's Day."
Clipped papers fell onto his lap, dark brown eyes framed by thick rimmed glasses widened in shock. "Today's Valentine's Day?"
Hestia flipped the calendar on his desk with casual magical telekinesis at a flick of her wrist. "February the 14th," she pointed out.
Hermes jumped out of his seat, grabbed his jacket from the spine of the chair and almost tripped on his way out the door. Hestia rolled her eyes as she watched him go.
"Try not to get dumped!"

"Hm, what should I buy that guy?" Katherine wondered aloud as she walked down District 05, popular for its store lined streets and inviting ambiance. She swore that some shops must have charmed parts of the road to urge people to come in and buy their discounted, heart shaped goods. She wouldn't have seen through it if it weren't for her bionic eye messing with the magic's wavelengths. Anyway, she wasn't complaining. If there's anything she liked, it was free to cheap stuff.
She passed a particularly vocal chocolate store, speaker screaming about how their special truffles could make a couple understand each other better. Definitely dunked them in body switch potion, she mused. Another store sold cutely packaged soda cans which were totally not love potions—yeah, right. Katherine came prepared for all the bullshit charmed products. The night before, she had asked Hestia to connect her to a telepathy line with Ace, who had been more than happy to rant about them. Get gender-switched once and anyone would research the whole marketplace for similar products to avoid. Ace was a very detailed informant, too. Non-magi had to stick together, after all.
Her face lit up when she noticed a coffee shop with no upfront magical intervention her bionic eye could see from under its eyepatch. She approached it eagerly, attracted by the huge banner hanging from across the tips of the roof.
50% discount, she read, beaming. For couples only. Her face fell.
"There's no way I'm going in without a discount," she grumbled under her breath. She ran a hand through her long brown hair. If only magi use phones, she thought, then I won't have to look for another store.
She sighed and turned around, stepping back onto the main street. She only walked a few steps when she heard a familiar voice calling her name. She smiled and waited to turn until he caught up, breathing slightly hard from running.
"Hey," he said. He had shopping bags looped on his forearm, MagiMart written in pink on the sides, boxes of plain truffles fresh from the convenience store stacked inside. Katherine folded her arms on her chest.
"Sorry for forgetting," he said, "I promise I'll make it up to you for the rest of the day."
Katherine put her arms around his neck and stood on the tips of her feet. She planted a peck onto his dumbfounded lips.
"Let's eat those chocolates with coffee," she said, eyes gleaming.
Hermes blinked twice at her, then smiled and followed her. Even though she didn't possess any magic, she sure held the most power over him, of all.
