Natalie woke up in a hospital. She was hooked up to a few machines, but she didn't know what they did. She looked around and saw her mother asleep in a chair next to her. She tried to remember.... why was she here? Then it hit her. Emma Jane.
"Mom. Mom, wake up!" She said as she shook her mother. Her mom got up and smiled.
"Oh, Natalie. I'm so glad you are up. The doctor said-"
"I don't care what the doctor said. Where is EJ?" Natalie urged. At the mention of Emma's name, Nat's mom's face went dark. Natalie threw her covers off and sat up a little too fast. She suddenly felt light headed and dizzy.
"Take it easy, dear. Let me go get the doctor." Her mom said as she laid her back down. Natalie's mom left the room leaving her alone with her worries and fears. A little bit later, a female doctor came in followed by Mrs. Dinkan.
"Ah, Natalie. I'm happy to see you are doing well." The doctor said calmly. Nat was fed up. Where was EJ?
"Where is my fiance?" She demanded. The doctor shook her head. Nat broke down. Emma Jane was dead?
"She isn't dead, dear." The doctor said "You just can't see her until we know you are ok."
"I know I'm fine, take me to her."
"Nat, please." Her mother pleaded. Her mom never called her Nat. She nodded and let the doctor look at her. When she was done the doctor filled her in on what happened.
"You were in a major car accident. Your driver was hit by a drunk driver, then you were hit by oncoming traffic twice, then the car flipped over. Your driver was fine and awake, she just broke her arm. You and your fiance were unconscious. You had no cuts, just bruises and a major concussion. Your fiance, well. She was in pretty bad shape when we got to you. She had lots of cuts and was out cold. She almost stopped breathing. She is alive now, just in a coma."
