Sweaters and Movies
Uhm. Lee?
I texted back. I placed my phone on the counter near the coffee which was probably not too hot anymore. I hold on to the styrofoam cup and bring the aroma to my nose. Is that cinnamon I smell? I take a sip as my phone rings, a message popping out.
You got it right on the first guess! For that, you deserve a prize.
The cup remained glued to my lips as I tried to process what exactly is happening right now. Do celebrities really do stuff like these? Or was it just Lee? Or am I being pranked? With that thought I turned to look at the corners of our tiny apartment. It had a great view of the city from the big gigantic window. It was a studio apartment with a second balcony floor connected by a spiral staircase. I stood up and checked the drawers for suspicious objects like a nanny cam.
I stopped and stood near the glass window, watching the sun sink in the horizon. I narrowed my eyes at it suspiciously and ran upstairs to find anything out of place. When I found none I plopped myself on my bed and turned to Paige's side of our apartment. It was filled with canvas' of different sizes and unfinished paintings. There was even a painting of me stashed somewhere behind all the other paintings.
Wow. What do I win?
I replied and found myself nervously waiting for his text. If this was a prank... I guess moving back home isn't so bad.
The best dinner of your life.
I almost laughed out loud. I stared at his message. No way was this happening! This was like a miracle! He was quite confident too. Perhaps he has always been like this with his fans? Especially ones he spilled coffee on.
I think I'll be the judge of that.
I stared outside the huge paneled windows. Was this really happening? I laughed loudly this time, shaking my head in disbelief.
Alright. Where should I pick you up?
I stared. I blinked and I stared again. What if this was a prank? That would be so embarrassing! I hesitate before throwing my phone far away from me on my bed. There was just no way it was real. That it was really him I was texting with. That's just impossible. My phone rang again and I craned my neck to take a peek. My iphone lit up to reveal another text from him.
How about we meet in the same coffee shop?
He was joking. Definitely.
I'll wear a disguise?
I could almost laugh. I stood up, shaking my head to try and focus on the things that needed to be done. First, I needed to change. I kick off my heels and went straight to the bathroom.
--
I emerged from the bathroom a few minutes later, steam coming out. I was wrapped in a towel as I managed to run across the room to close the blinds of our huge windows. The cons! I watched as the night time view of the city disappeared from my view as I walked on the wooden floors to get to my dresser.
When I was finally in my pajamas, I decided to just order take out and watch movies. Specifically ones directed by Peter Jackson. My eyes flicked over to my phone who had been quiet for a while now. I hesitantly take it and run downstairs to the living room to prepare my movie.
I started the movie, Lord of the Rings, before picking up the phone and dialing the number of a pizza place instead. I ordered pizza as I sat in our sofa, glancing at the clock. It was still half past six. Too early. Paige would probably be home late.
As the movie played my phone rang again and my eyes snap towards it. Above the messages coming from 'Lee Pace' was Paige's name. I grab my phone and open her text.
Check news.
My brows furrowed before I paused my movie and changed the channel to the news. There in the screen was a picture of Lee Pace in the coffee shop just as he was about to leave. I stared at it before reading the headlines.
"Even gods and elven kings need their coffee."
I snorted at the headlines. It was pretty witty, I'd have to admit. It sounded like something our teacher in copywriting class would enjoy.
"Lee Pace, known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Hobbit Films, was spotted entering and leaving a local cafe this afternoon." The reporter said as it continued to show collections of pictures from that moment.
"The reason as to why, was rumored to be because he 'just wanted to get his own coffee'," the reporter was a middle aged woman who had short hair, styled away from her face. She had a reporters smile. She then turned to the camera before a sly grin spread across her face, "Or was it for another reason?"
I was beyond mortified.
There, flashed in the screen was a picture of me, coat open revealing my monkey shirt. I was holding on to the coffee he gave me and was staring after him with wide eyes. I covered my face with my hands as the reporter seemed to marvel at the 'latest gossip'.
"He was spotted handing this woman a coffee and a cell," she stared wide eyed at the screen with a suggestive nod, "and if you zoom in here," they zoomed into my shirt with the monkey patterns, " we all know Lee likes to see himself as a monkey. Is she just a lucky fangirl? Or is she something else?"
Then the news shifted to sports. I stared at the screen, only to be pulled away by the insistent ringing of the doorbell.
I walked over to our telecom and pressed the button, thinking it was just the pizza guy.
"Come on up," I say and opened the main door of our building. I waited for him by the door, leaning on to the frame. What just happened? I run a hand through my untamable hair. I mean, wasn't he rumored to be into guys? I laughed half heartedly. This was definitely a weird day. The doorbell rang and I swung the door open and found someone I least expected to see.
Lee Pace was standing outside my door. Holding a box of Pizza. We were quiet for a moment before I seemed to regain my senses. I peeked across the hall to see if anyone else was here and was surprised to find it empty.
"You're into odd jobs?" I managed to ask and he gives me a smile before staring at my sweater, which I use to sleep in because it was cold. It had a big monkey's face in the middle.
"And you're into banana's and monkeys," he commented, gesturing to my shirt. I blush deep red before taking the pizza from him and foolishly handing him the money. He stares at it for a while before laughing and I blush harder.
"I already paid for your pizza," he says, " I also tipped the young man."
"Aren't you afraid he's going to say something?"
"What can he say that is not already in the news?" He counters and he has a fair point but still, how did he know where I live?
"You're not some kind of actor by day serial killer by night, are you?" I ask, with a slight fear. He seemed to find my question amusing as his lips curve into a half smirk and I felt my world undone.
"As of matter of fact," he began with a slight lean to his left, " I am. I like to target amusing, witty, short females who love banana's and monkeys."
I place the pizza on the counter top near our door and turned to him with the best glare I could muster.
"Listen, if this is some kind of prank can you just not?" I practically shook with nervousness as all amusement seemed to leave his face for a moment before they come back.
"You think this is a prank?" He asked and I give him a nod, glancing behind him to wait for the cameramen to jump out but found none.
"This is no prank," he assures me and I realized he hasn't answered my question.
"How did you find me?" I asked again and he seemed embarrassed for a moment as he slid his hands in his pockets.
"Well..." He hesitated a moment as his lips formed a straight line, making him look like he was a child being asked if he broke the vase and was now trying to reason out why the vase needed to be broken, " I sort of asked Bill to follow you?" He gave me a small smile and I couldn't believe a word he just said. So I laughed before I could even stop myself.
"You're kidding, right?" I asked when my laughter died down and he seemed to smile wider.
"Would you want me to be?"
"What?" I stared at him before finally accepting that this was real and it was happening. Just then, the elevators to our apartment made a ding sound and my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when I see Paige coming down the hall. She had a bag of wine and what I assumed was vodka on one hand and a plastic with a tub of ice cream on the other. She glanced up and stopped dead on her tracks as Lee seemed to turn around to find what I was staring at.
Bill followed, giving Lee a shrug. Paige looked at Lee then at me then back at Lee.
"Hello," Lee flashes her a smile.
"Hi..." Paige replied hesitantly, her eyes trying to ask me what the hell was going on. I give her a shrug.
Lee then turned to me, " you guys live together?" He asked and I nod my head dumbly. He gives me a nod back before turning toward Paige. Lee made a motion of taking the things from her hands when Bill interjected, taking it himself instead.
"Thanks..." Paige says as she eyes Bill coming towards me, he gives me a smile and I let him in our apartment. He quickly places the things on the table and steps out. Lee extends a hand towards Paige.
"Hi, I'm-"
"- I know who you are," Paige says, " what I don't know is why you are here?" She glanced again over to me with questioning eyes and I give her another shrug.
"Ah, I am here to deliver pizza to your friend," he explains, turning to me, "whose name I still haven't gotten yet."
"Oh, well her name is Danielle," Paige happily answers him, giving me 'the look'.
"Danielle," Lee repeats before nodding about something.
"Is that all?" I asked impatiently and Paige gave me a curious look. Lee seemed to be unfazed by my tone as he turned and walked towards me again.
"No," he states, "actually, I also came here to ask you about that dinner."
Paige's mouth practically drops open behind him as Bill seemed to stand still beside the elevators.
"What do you say?" He grins, " Up to take me on another challenge?"
"I am already plastered on the news," I grumbled, " I don't want the attention."
He seemed to consider this before smiling at me again.
"Trust me, you wont have anyone's attention but a Pace's," he gives me a grin again before heading off. Had I just agreed? I don't remember agreeing. He rode the elevator, giving a salute to Paige.
"Check your phone, I didn't squeeze through that crowd for nothing," he called just before the elevator doors close with a serious looking Bill at his side.
Paige turned to me and I duck and run back inside our apartment before she bombarded me with questions.
"Don't you turn your back on me!" She squealed as she ran inside our apartment, closing the door behind her. Trapping me in. I jump on the sofa as we seemed to have started a game of tag.
"Why are you home so early?!" I asked and she was practically beaming.
"Because, the party was boring! I would rather spend the night talking about your Lee Pace encounter!" She replies, knocking me off the couch and to the ground. I let out a groan as she pinned me down, her bright eyes wide and excited.
"I did not expect the actually seeing an encounter!!"
"Get off me, Paige!" I pushed at her, managing to crawl away already feeling the laughter bubbling in my stomach.
"God, Danny!!" She squealed again as she rolled on the ground, laughing.
This was what we did all the time when something unexpectedly good happens. She pushes herself up and brace herself on he elbows, a wide grin on her face as I turned to her, my lips twitching with the laugh I was desperately trying to hold in. My heart was practically drilling a hole through my chest. She seemed to eyes my sweater and laughed even louder.
"And you're even wearing that sweater!" Her eyes fall on the flatscreen and smiled with an arched brow.
"Oh dear, he probably saw that too," she nudged her head towards the screen and I had not even realized I had changed the channel back to my movie.
"What?" I turned to her, " It's Lord of the Rings, he is not there."
"Yeah, he must be really heartbroken by that fact," she grins and I am tempted to throw anything I could get my hands on at her. Her eyes suddenly widen as she got up.
"Ice cream!" She got the pint and quickly placed it in the fridge, sighing as she did so.
I got up slowly, anticipating another tackle from her as I walked tentatively towards the pizza box by the door. She eyes me with amusement as she lifts her hands in front of her in surrender.
Then my phone chimed.
I froze as she did, her eyes flickering on the phone that laid on the sofa. We stood staring at each other for a moment before she ran as I tried to get to my phone first.
I am pushed to the side, hitting the floor with a loud 'thud' and a groan as she laughed triumphantly.
"I could have been seriously injured!" I whine but she ignores me as she smiles at my phone before typing furiously.
"What are you doing?" I warn as I try to look at my phone. She moves it away from me.
"The question is, what are you doing?" She counters and I frown as my phone rings again making the grin on her face spread wider.
"Paige," I start putting on my best angry face, " what have you done?"
"Something your life of precautions would not let you," she answers as she places my phone back on the sofa. I grab it, looking through the messages and find that I had just agreed to meet Lee at the same coffee shop.
"Paige," she pushes herself up to place a finger on my lips, silencing me.
"Don't 'Paige' me, you are welcome," she gives me a nod before getting up and getting the long forgotten pizza. She opens it and takes a slice. She loved pizza.
"Come on Danny," she says between chews, " it's Lee Pace. You don't get a chance like that everyday."
Exactly. I don't.
I decided to drop the subject as she sat through another LotR marathon with me. I still had to explain some parts which really wasn't a bother.
What was a bother was, what was I going to do about this Lee business?
