Chapter 8

My name is Cameron Parker. My father, Charles Parker, was the Alpha of the Hidden Moon pack before handing it over to me a few years ago. Everyone in my pack is family and extended. Almost everyone you will meet, if you choose to stay, will be related to me in some way. But there are others who don't relate to me. They belong to this pack because my father, or I, have let them. Everyone in this pack is a werewolf,"

"You, Macy, are a human and they don't usually reside in a pack like this. But Hidden Moon is so large, it takes up the small town of Westport, Montana. The teenagers go to the local high school, intermingling with the local humans. We live just like them. My home is the pack house where the pack doctor and my family, the Alpha's family, and a few other close relatives live. Everyone participates in this pack. Everyone is closely knitted together,"

"When I brought you here, it was to attend to your wounds and help you heal. But Macy, you're more hurt than just on the outside. You're strong, but hurt. Broken in a sense. You are small and vulnerable. But not weak." His eyes bore into her's and she swallowed hard at his words. It warmed her heart and soul. She pictured herself as weak because Xavier had drilled it into her head for the last six years. But she was filled with a small amount of confidence at Cameron's strong words.

"But there's something else. Something you must know," she was surprised when he grabbed her hand and held it gently in his. It caused a warm tingling sensation to run up her arm and enlighten her heart. His gaze was strong, steady, determined. It sent a whirlwind of butterflies storming in her stomach.

"Have you heard of mates?" He asked, sounding a little unsure. Macy thought about it before shaking her head.

"No. I don't think so." Cam gave a grim smile and nodded.

"In the werewolf community, there's one thing we look for when we become of age, at sixteen. And that's our mates. They are another werewolf who is chosen for you by the Moon Goddess to be the love of your life."

"A soul mate?" Macy asked abruptly and Cam smiled and nodded.

"Exactly that, yes. And when we find our mate we'll do everything in our power to protect them, even if that means risking our own lives. When we find our mate it's like we've been awakened to a new part of the world and everything that person does just makes us crazy. Whatever they do, no matter how big or small, it's beautiful and amazing and you can't seem to get them off your mind." Macy felt a little chill run through her body. But it wasn't one of the bad chills, it was a sensation she didn't know. Flattery? No. Something else. It was as if Macy felt that he was talking about her. And it made her heart swell and warm. A distant look clouded Cam's eyes and a lazy smile appeared on his face. After a few moments he looked over at her and smiled broadly.

"It's rare for a werewolf to have a human mate. It's even rarer for an Alpha's son to have a human as a mate," his eyes bore into her's and she felt breathless at his next few words. "Macy, you're my mate."

The first thing she felt was disbelief. But she knew Cam would never lie to her.

"H-how do you know?" She asked nervously and Cam smiled softly as he leaned over and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. His fingers brushed across her skin and caused goosebumps to crawl across her skin.

"Because when I'm close to you, I can't think straight. When you smile it makes me stare in amazement. And when you cry, I can't stand it. I can't stand to see you sad or upset, or hurt. You're so beautiful, Macy. So beautiful in fact, you rival my mother, but don't tell her I said that," Macy giggled and Cam grinned. "When you laugh like that, it sends my heart into a race I'm not sure I can win. When you play the piano, I fall into a trance with how amazingly talented you are. And knowing how much you've been through, I want to help. As I said before, you're not weak and you grow stronger every minute. So, Macy, will you stay?" His eyes pleaded with her to stay and his grip on her hand tightened.

Her mind was swirling and her heart was aching with emotions. She could see herself, in the future, with this handsome man and being exactly who she was meant to be. He had saved her from Xavier. He would be her present and future. She was touched and she smiled, causing a grin to spread across Cameron's face. She nodded and giggled as he wrapped his arms around her and held her in a tight, comforting embrace.

In his ear she whispered, "I'll stay." And it only made Cam hug her tighter. He was so relieved and he breathed in her scent, locking it in his memory as her's. Her hand touched his neck and he pulled back, smiling lovingly down at her. A new color was set across her cheeks as he leaned down and kissed her forehead. His lips caused a different kind of tingle to run across her body. It was one Macy really, really liked.
