Chapter 22
Cameron was pacing his office. And that was never a good sign. A tear stained, hiccuping Shea was sitting across from his desk, trying to stop her endless flow of tears, but it just wasn't going to happen. She had told Cameron everything. That she was mates with Xavier and his plan for Macy.
Cameron slowed his pacing and turned his head to face the woman who had practically performed treason against his pack. Her hands were shaking, and tears were flowing down her cheeks. He knew it couldn't have been easy, turning against your mate. She looked up at him and wiped her cheeks.
"I just... I just want Xavier to be happy. This war, this feud, between you two is slowly killing him and he isn't listening to anything I say. I know I did some things, but it was only because I was in love with the idea of having Xavier as my mate and he made it very clear to me that he wouldn't take me as his until I proved loyalty to him," her lower lip trembled and she looked away from him and down at her shaking hands. "I'm not even sure he loves me." Cameron came around his desk as Shea covered her face in her hands, beginning to sob uncontrollably.
"Hey, hey, it's alright." It was a natural instinct of his, to console, to nurture. He gathered Shea in his arms and hugged her, knowing not only from his experiences with Macy, but also by what his mother taught him, that when a female was upset, having the support of someone would help them. He rubbed her back as she cried into his shoulder.
"I'm so sorry, Alpha. I'm so sorry. I was so blind," she cried. "Blind by the pull." The door opened and Macy entered, only to freeze in the doorway at the sight she was seeing. Cameron hugging Shea? And she was crying? Even though Shea had threatened Macy's way of life, and Cameron's as well. But she trusted Cameron, so whatever the reason for hugging Shea, had to be a good one.
Cameron saw Macy enter and quickly separated himself from Shea, who turned around, eyes swollen and red from crying. When she saw Macy, she broke down again.
"Macy, it isn't-" Macy ignored him and went to Shea's side.
"What's wrong?" She asked and she turned to Cameron when Shea only began to cry harder. Cameron filled Macy in.
"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." Shea sputtered and Macy gaped at Shea. She wanted to take Cameron and her child away from her? She touched her stomach subconsciously and took a deep breath.
"I was so blind by the pull, you have to understand Macy! Please!" Shea begged and Macy swallowed hard, looking at Cameron. He gave her a look as if to say that she could handle this situation anyway that she wanted and he would follow her through it. Macy took a deep breath.
"Shea," Shea hiccuped and looked up at Macy with large, red shot eyes. "I understand. I suppose you could be blind by the pull and the choices you made were only so you could be with your mate, which is understandable, I would do almost anything to be with Cameron," she smiled with she felt his arm go around her waist. "Almost anything." She said again and Shea's eyes widened with despair.
"We will give you shelter, food, clothing, the essentials. But, you will not be allowed to leave or see your mate," pain filled Shea's eyes and she closed them, before taking a deep, hiccuping breath.
"Thank you," Shea whispered as she opened her eyes. "Thank you so much." Macy smiled and nodded, dismissing Shea and she scurried off. When Shea was gone, Cameron wrapped both arms around her, burying his face into her neck. She smiled and leaned into his touch.
"That was very kind of you," he said, pulling away, but not too far. She shrugged and traced patterns on his shirt.
"My mother always said that the greatest of queens were the kindest, but the most convicting." Cameron laughed and nodded.
"Yes, my queen, they sure are." Macy giggled as Cameron kissed her. Cameron placed a hand against her growing stomach.
"So, what do you think it will be?" She sighed.
"I hate that it's an 'it' until we find out the gender," she said. "How about we call 'it' something else, anything else but it." She buried her face into his chest and he laughed.
"Okay, what about, sugar?" She laughed and shook her head.
"I don't think so. What about... Peanut?" She asked, looking up at Cameron with wide eyes. He groaned.
"You know I can't say no to eyes like that." She giggled.
"I think peanut will be a girl," she said, smoothing her hand over her stomach. Cameron placed his hand over hers.
"I think peanut will be a boy,"
"Men always think that." Macy giggled and Cameron rolled her eyes.
"And women always think their peanut's are girls," he was closer this time, his hand smoothing with her own across her stomach.
"Well, whatever our peanut is, I will love him or her so much, I'll forget to love you," Cameron laughed.
"Oh, really now? I don't think I will let that happen." She giggled and laughed loudly as he picked her up, sweeping her off her feet, and carrying her out of his office. Cameron carried his mate to their room and placed her on the bed. When she opened her mouth to question what he was doing, he kissed her fully, silencing her. When he knew she was blown away, he pulled away, and tucked her under the covers. She gaped at him.
"What are you doing? It's eleven in the morning!" She laughed.
"Doctor's orders. Said for you to rest," he sat beside her and he was suddenly very serious. "I know we don't really talk about what Xavier did to you," Macy felt fear fill her chest at the memory and she felt breathless. Cameron grabbed her hand. "But the doctor noticed, Macy. He could see the scars and he knows. He told me that he was surprised that you could be pregnant," her eyes dropped from his and she took a deep breath. "So he advised me to tell you that you need to take it slowly, because of the scaring, one wrong move...." He trailed off and Macy wiped the mist away from her eyes. The memories of what Xavier did and the thought of losing the first child she would ever actually get to conceive, would have made anyone tear up. She nodded and Cameron rubbed her arm softly.
"Okay, I will then." Cameron smiled and it eased the lost pain. He leaned down and kissed her softly, holding her softly, and knowing that any bruise left behind would be his fault. Any kiss from Cameron was a good one, even if it was just mindless, which was the best kind. And recently, all the kisses had been. But not completely mindless. They were still full of passion and love and everything a kiss from your true soul mate should have. They were intoxicating, addicting, and depending on the mood, seriously mind blowing.
Cameron had to leave to figure out ways to defeat Xavier and get his pack and his family finally at peace. So, Macy just laid in bed, watching TV. or reading, or sleeping. Lillian, Willa, and Claire had come up to visit her and Macy realized that she hadn't told them, or anyone really, other than Shea because she had been eavesdropping, that she was pregnant. So when the girls were worried about their future Luna's health, Macy assured them that her illness was completely normal and not really an illness at all.
Lillian and Claire were confused, but not Willa. Willa gasped and covered her mouth, staring wide eyed at her best friend, shocked, but so overly and wonderfully exciting.
"No way," she said and Macy laughed.
"What?" Claire asked and Willa looked at the clueless.
"She's having a baby!" Then everyone was so overly and wonderfully excited. They all hugged and were all so excited for the coming of peanut that they already began baby shower preparations and discussing baby names and genders.
"Wait, so why is Cameron making you stay up here?" Lillian asked and Macy felt slightly breathless.
"Uh, well, you know about what... Xavier did to me, right?" She said and everyone nodded.
"It's just a precaution, that's all." Willa said and Macy gave her a silent thank you. Macy knew that these girls were her friends and only cared about her, but just talking about what Xavier did to her was painful memories she never wanted to live through again. Lillian and Claire nodded and hugged Macy.
"If you need anything, just give us a holler and we will come a running." Lillian said and the other nodded.
"Thank you. Really. You guys are the greatest friends I've ever had." They all smiled and hugged one more time before they left, leaving Macy to take a nap, smiling as she fell asleep, her hand rubbing soft circles against her stomach and thinking of the memories that she was going to make and they weren't going to be negative or dark. They were going to be beautiful, and passionate, and lively. Her peanut was never going to find out about her past, was never going to learn about what Xavier did to her. Because Xavier wasn't and was never going to be a part of her life ever again.
