Chapter 18

It was about five when Cameron came home early. Macy was sitting on the couch, reading a magazine when the back door opened and Cameron came home, a sullen look on his face. Macy wasn't expecting him home so early and as he came into the living room, she put the magazine aside.

"Hey," she said as he came around the side of the couch and sat down beside her. "What are you doing home early?" He picked up her hand.

"It's the third day, Macy." Her breath caught and she felt her heart hammer in her chest.

"N-no. It can't be." She whispered, her eyes filled with fear as she stared at Cameron. He moved closer to her, cupping her cheek.

"Hey, stay calm, okay? Everything's going to be fine. We've prepared. The fighters have been trained. And the safe house has been set up." Her eyes filled with confusion.

"Safe house?"

"In case something happens, you, Claire, and Lillian will be going to the safe house. They're going to be your guards and get you there if Xavier manages to get close to the house," Macy felt like she couldn't breathe. She had been so caught up in her feelings, she hadn't even thought of the war.

Cameron, seeing her fear, forced her to look at him.

"Macy. I promise you that I won't let him get to you, do you hear me?" She swallowed hard. She was to shocked to even cry. Cameron leaned forward and kissed her eyes.

"Just stay clam and be strong. For me." Macy took a deep breath and let it out slowly as she nodded. She trusted Cam. She believed in him. She knew he wouldn't let Xavier get close to her. She felt a little stronger too. Xavier was going to get what he deserved and that was going to be in the form of Cameron. Cam forced a smile and kissed her softly before pulling her into his arms.

"When do we leave?" She asked softly.

"Soon, but right now, let's just forget everything for little bit, okay?" She nodded, wanting the exact same thing. They were silent as Macy sat in his lap, Cameron's arms wound tightly around her. He held her, in his arms, knowing this was the last time she would ever be truly safe for a long time.

**********

The sun was hovering above the horizon as Cameron, Macy, and a hundred trained fighters walked to the clearing. The same clearing with the ring if trees. Where Cameron had found Macy. Macy kept her head high, her hand held tightly in Cameron's. She felt this unimaginable amount of pride towards Cameron and everyone else as they followed.

It was a secure formation, Macy right behind Cameron as fighters surrounded them. Everyone was at least a foot taller than she, all dressed in only a pair of shorts. Cameron had said so that it was to reduce risk of suffocation from tshirt collars when they shifted. And because it was practical in the economic sense.

Even thought Macy knew she was safe in this formation, she knew it wasn't going to last forever. She ran scenarios after scenario in her head, thinking if ways this could go horribly wrong.

"Cam," she whispered as she tugged in his arm. He looked over at her, his dark blue eyes watching. "Do you think he'll attack?" Cameron shook his head.

"I doubt it, but you can never be sure what Xavier will do." She swallowed hard and nodded as he squeezed her hand, shooting her a reassuring smile.

"Everything will be fine, I promise. If anything does go wrong, Zane will take you to the house, okay?" He guestured to a familiar figure to the left and Zane nodded his head solemnly. Macy nodded and took a deep breath, forcing her anxiety away, to no avail.

When they arrived, everyone was still, quiet, waiting. Cameron's hand gripped Macy's because he knew how afraid she was. He could feel her fear as if it was his, but he knew it was only because if the mark he had given her. Since then, while he was gone, he could feel her emotions as if they were his. He smoothed his thumb over the back of her hand, reassuring her that everything was going to be fine, even if he didn't believe it himself.

"Well, if it isn't Parker and his little mate." A deep chuckle came from the trees and Cameron gripped Macy's hand tighter as he heard her gasp of fear. Xavier strutted out if the tears, five men following, but Cameron wasn't to be fooled. He knew there was others, and circling. Xavier came within ten feet of Cameron's group. Macy tried to stay strong, but it was hard when Xavier was staring her down with those black eyes of his.

"Macy!" He laughed, making her jump. "My, have you grown more breathtaking." Cameron growled as Macy's finger curled around his arm.

"Don't talk to her." Cameron said and Xavier shifted his eyes to his enemy. He fixed Cameron with a stare so cold and so full of hate, it made Macy internally shrink.

"So," Xavier said, a smirk coming across his face. "Have you accepted my terms?" Their was silence and all Macy could hear was her heart, beating frantically in her chest.

"It appears the last time we met, that your terms could not be met," Cameron kept his face solid, no emotion. "And you gave me a proposition instead." An evil grin spread across Xavier's face, making Macy shudder. She hated that smile, it sent a cold chill up her spine.

"Oh, I have not forgotten that," he chuckled and Macy's fingers curled into Cameron's arm, her nails digging into his skin as Xavier steeped closer. His eyes roamed over Macy's half hidden body before they landed on her neck, shifting slightly to the right before a mask of anger appeared on his face.

"And it appears you have choosen," his eye were dark black pits of anger as he looked at Cameron. Macy tensed as everyone around her fell into a stance, prepared to fight. She felt Cameron release her hand and she opened her mouth to say something when Zane grabbed her arm. Fear filled her veins.

"And I have choosen wisely." Cameron growled. Xavier laughed.

"Choosen wisely? You chose selfishly. Now your pack will die! Along with you and your pathetic mate." He growled and Cameron held his ground, ignoring his wolf telling him to fight at the insult to his mate. Everyone waited, tensely waiting for a fight.

"But," Xavier said as he took a step back, his friends following. Cameron was confused, as he heard the other wolves who had been circling fall back. "We will not fight today. We will fight when you are least expecting it," his eyes shifted to Macy who stared at him in petrified fear. He grinned that evil grin. "I'll see you soon, baby girl." Macy couldn't breathe as she watched Xavier and his friends walk out if the clearing and dissapear.

Zane let go of her arm as Cameron came towards her, speaking words she could not hear. She could see his lips moving, but all she could hear was Xavier's voice, echoing in her mind. The threats, the insults, just his voice alone caused her blood to freeze and her heart to stop. Her head felt light and her world tilted before she fell, landing into Cameron's arms.

Cameron felt fear capture his heart as Macy fainted into his arms. He knew it was a panic attack, but it still caused heart stopping fear to consume his entire being. He was afraid she would never wake up, afraid she would never come back to him. He picked her up, feeling grateful as her eyes fluttered open.

"Cam..." Her voice was thick and he held her close as they began to walk quickly back to the house. He looked at Riley who looked concerned.

"I want a patrol, changed every hour. Circle the house, the border, and everywhere in between. No one gets in or out without my knowing." Riley nodded and scurried out, giving out orders as they neared the house. Macy whimpered as a few tears slid down her cheeks.

"I t-tried... I t-tried to be s-strong." She sputtered and Cam's heart broke.

"I know you did." They entered the house, Lillian and Claire looking on worriedly as Cameron took her up to their bedroom.

"I-I'm s-sorry." She cried softly into her hands, hating herself for appearing so weak. Cameron opened the door and closed it, going towards the bed where he set her on the edge. She kept her hands over her eyes as she cried. Cam could feel his heart breaking. Her took her hands away from her face to see her hazel eyes red a puffy.

"Don't apologize. I know you tried and that's all I could ever ask of you." She hiccuped.

"I l-let e-everyone d-down," her lower lip trembled as tears streamed down her face. "I'm sorry." She cried harder and Cam wrapped her up in his arms, whispering loving words into her ear. Slowly, she stopped, only hiccuping. She looked up into his eyes and he gave her a reassuring smile, brushing the tears away.

"I love you," he said and she couldn't help but smile.

"I love you too." He leaned down, capturing her lips with his. Slowly, as it always was, he kissed her, easing her troubled mind and aching heart. Her fingers curled into his hair as she felt the softness of the sheets underneath her. Her body yearned for his, her mark burning her skin. She wanted Cameron and she wanted him now.

He broke away suddenly, both if them breathing hard as he stared into Macy's face, seeing the lust heavy in her eyes. His stomach lurched, his wolf urged him to keep going, and he did just that. He kissed her while her fingers slowly removed his shirt, him shivering as her cool fingers traced over his chest. He felt like his body was on fire.

"Macy," he broke away. "Are you sure?" He whispered, his eyes closing slowly as she pulled on his hair, bringing his head closer to hers.

"Yes." She breathed before kissing him, feeling him relax and slowly begin to unwind. She couldn't have asked for a more gentler lover. He was slow and easy and careful. He was soft and caring and whispered his apologies when she cried. He wiped the tears, whispering mindless I love you's into her ear.

She felt...whole and complete and so loved, she wouldn't have known what to do if it wasn't for Cameron. Her everything. The night dragged on slowly, and her blood was laced heavily with pleasure. Cameron would loose himself as she moaned his name. He let her slowly recover before beginning again and showing just how much he loved her without ever having to utter a single I love you.
