Chapter Thirty: So This Is Who You Are
"D-did he just-?" (R/N) asked you as soon as Jet walked out.
"Yep." You said. "I told you that he was giving me shit."
"More like bullshit." She replied. "Should we go and find him?"
"I'll go alone." You said with a full tray of food in your hands. You weren't feeling too hungry today (it wasn't that you were anorexic or anything. Today was just one of those days.) "He probably won't talk if you come. No offense to you or anything."
"None taken." (R/N) said. "Go get 'em tiger. Oh, and leave the tray here if you're going to waste it. I'll most definitely eat it."
You put the tray down and went in the direction you saw Jet take.
You found him sitting on the fountain that sat right in the middle of campus. He was listening to music on his phone and was singing "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" by Green Day.
"Hey there." You said, taking the earbuds out of his ears. "How ya doing?"
He paused the song and wrapped his earbuds around his phone and put it in his pocket.
"You found me." he said. "I didn't think that you would chase after me."
"Of course." You said, sitting down next to him. "When you leave me hanging like that, of course I'm going to go and find you."
"Fair enough (Y/N)." he said.
"So, how do you know so much about me?" You asked after you both were silent for a few moments.
He chuckled and replied, "Take a good look around you."
You did so, confused as to why he was saying to look at the kids who were walking around campus and talking amongst themselves.
"There's people." You said.
"Exactly." he replied. "People who could hear us talking if they really wanted to listen to us talk to each other."
"But I think that they're too focused on their own conversations to really care about what we're saying." You said. "So I think that it's safe for you to say what you need to say right here and right now."
"It's too risky." he replied. "We have to talk somehwere else."
"And where the hell do you propose that we go?" You asked. "The break's almost over and I have to get to class."
"Can't you just skip?" he asked.
"No!" You snapped. "I paid money to go to this God damn school and I plan to go to my classes and do the assignments that I need to do because, unlike you, I realize that money doesn't grow on trees. I can't just keep shelling out money to keep coming here every year. And your father can't keep doing that either. So, why don't you get your damn priorities straight and start working hard so you can get your degree and get the fuck out of here?"
"You're not my fucking mother!" Jet snapped. He was yelling now and was attracting unwanted attention. Well, you thought that the attention was unwanted, at least. "Don't tell me what to do! And I already have to deal with hearing that shit from my dad so I don't need you reminding me."
"But don't you think that he's only saying these things because he cares about you?" You asked.
"Maybe." He said. "But I don't want to hear it. And if you want me to tell you the thing that I was going to tell you, meet me here after school. That's the best time to meet because everyone will be in their dorms doing homework."
"That's the worst time to do it!" You said. "Because I actually have homework to do."
"Well, do you want to hear me out or not?" He asked.
He didn't wait for you to respond before adding, "Well, if you want to, I'll be out here in this spot listening to my music from the time school ends until curfew. Or until my phone dies. Come talk to me then. Or don't. Either way is fine with me."
"What did Jet say?" (R/N) demanded. You were in your dorm and still deciding if you were going to go see him or not.
"Stuff." You said. "He told me to meet him after school."
"You going?" She asked.
"I have homework." You said. "Tons again."
"It'll only take like ten minutes." He said. "Just go."
You sighed and replied, "Fine. I'll go."
"You go girl!" (R/N) cheered, shoving you out of the dorm.
You opened your mouth to say something but the door closed right in your face.
Just then, your phone rang. You took it out of your pocket to find that Mark was calling you.
You smiled as you took the call and put your phone to your ear and said, "Hey."
"Hey babe." He said. "I missed hearing your voice."
"Me too." You said, beginning to make your way to where Jet was waiting for you. "Can't the weekend just come already?"
"Speaking of that, I have the most amazing thing planned for us." He said.
"What is it?" You asked.
"It's a surprise." He said. "But you're going to love it."
"I'm even more excited." You said. "Well, I gotta go. I love you."
"Love you too." He said just before you hung up.
You put your phone in your pocket and went over to where Jet was.
"You came (Y/N)." He said, taking out his earbuds and turning off his music. "Didn't think you would."
"Well, I like surprising people." You said. "Okay. Spill the beans. What do you have to tell me?"
He pulled up his shirt and pointed to a long scar that ran from the bottom of his heart to right above his belly button.
"You see that?" He asked. "You did that. By stabbing me."
"Wh-?"
"I'm your little brother. My real name isn't Jet. It's (B/N) (L/N)."
