Chapter Thirty-Seven: How Could This Happen To Me?
"J-Jet!" You said in shock. "(R/N), what the hell happened? You were with him, weren't you?"
"I-I d-don't k-know!" She said. "H-he t-told m-me t-to m-meet h-him b-by t-the f-fountain a-and I-I w-waited f-for t-ten m-minutes a-and I-I d-decided t-to l-look f-for h-him. A-and I-I j-just f-found h-him h-here."
"You don't think that it was suicide, do you?" You asked. Jet seemed pretty happily recently but you knew that he might have been hiding his true feelings from everyone. He seemed like he was doing great but there might be a darkness lurking within him that he was hiding.
"N-no!" (R/N) said like you had said that he had grown wings and flew away. "T-that's n-not p-possible!"
"Anything is possible (R/N)." You said. "Wait, did you call the police?"
"No." She said, finally calming down and wiping away her tears. "I called you first!"
"Call the cops then!" You snapped.
"Okay!" She said, panicking and grabbing her phone. She put the phone up to ear after dialing, still shaking. "Um, I just found a body. It's in the woods outside of the University Of Cincinnati. Can you come quick? Yes? Okay."
She hung up after that and put her phone in her pocket.
"So, I'm guessing that they're coming?" You asked.
"Yeah." (R/N) said. "I'll stay here and explain what happened. Thanks for coming to comfort me."
"What are friends for?" You asked, putting an arm around her and giving her shoulders a tight squeeze. "I'm always here if you ever need me."
"Thanks (Y/N)." She said. "You're the greatest friend that a girl could ever ask her."
You smiled and released her. You were going to ask about the shopping trip but you realized that that might not be a good idea. So you just made your way back to your dorm.
As you were walking, the sheer reality of what had just happened came crashing down on you.
Jet was dead. Your own brother was dead.
And that's when the tears came out. You didn't even care who saw. Your brother is dead, so you thought that you had a legitimate good reason to be crying right now.
You felt your phone vibrate in your pocket. Wiping away some of your tears, you took it out of your pocket. A text from Mark, of course.
"Send me a picture of your beautiful smile."
You rolled your eyes and went to your phone's camera. Covering most of your mouth with your right hand, you held out the camera and put on a tiny smile. Before pressing the button to take the picture, you wiped away stray tears that had fallen when you were getting ready to take the picture. You got back into the position that you were in before, took the picture, and sent it to Mark, adding, "Here's my smile" on the bottom.
Just as you were putting your phone back in your pocket, you got another text.
"What's wrong?!"
You shrugged as you decided that you were going to text him as you made your way to the dorm.
"Things."
"What kind of things?"
"Things that I'm sure you're going to hear about in the near future."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"I don't want to talk about it."
After sending that message, you decided once and for all that you weren't going to talk to Mark once and for all. You put your phone in your pocket and went in your dorm, locking the door behind you. You went over to your bed and cried into your pillow.
A while later, you had finally stopped crying. (R/N) hadn't returned and you were getting worried. You took your phone out of your pocket and began to dial her number when there was a knock on the door. You put your phone down on your bed and went over to answer the door. Your face lit up upon seeing who was waiting for you.
