Death is a part of life and one day no matter what this part of life will come, anyway anytime anywhere and you'll never know.  So what should we do?

The only one thing between life and death is live because one moment you are standing in the corner of a bridge inhaling the fresh air and the next moment the bridge falls.

Nandini hadn't changed her dress when she slept, she didn't even ate something and then she had to leave for the hospital. It was unsafe she knew but when is it safe?

She called an Uber and kept on pretending to talk on her phone giving details of where she was, where she reached. There was no one on call but just for the safety so that the driver knew she had someone who knew every detail where she was and going. You need to do these things for your safety don't you?

Reaching the hospital safely she thanked her aaiyappa, walking inside all she could see was a bunch of people gathered around the counter wailing, crying and shouting. She knew they were the family of the patients who got admitted because of the accident.

Fidgeting with her fingers and taking a deep breath she cleared her throat and put on her coat.
There was this magic power in the white doctors coat with a name Nandani Murthy writen on it, it took all her nervousness and gave her confidence, hope and strength.

Nandini - Everyone stop, I know you guys are panicked and afraid but shouting at the authorities won't help instead will delay everything.  As of now please, please wait in the waiting room and we will give every information we have and the information's we get, if you don't cooperate we won't be able to do anything.

As if understating what she was saying,  the people nodded and moved towards the waiting room. The receptionist gave her a thank you smile to which she smiled back.

Someone from the back came running towards her and hugged her muttering continues sorry.

Nandini - Navya, it's okay don't be sorry I understand. Let's go we have a lot of patients to see.

Navya, Navya Naveli the one and only friend of Nandani, she was beautiful, smart and a sweetheart. They shared a different bond and always supported each other.

Navya - I am still very sorry, I never knew my phone was on silent and I slept and I missed all your calls, shittt I am so sorry hey matarani.

Nandini - Stop troubling your mata rani and relax, I was just worried, now let's go.

Time: 4:45 a.m

In the conference room there were senior doctors siting and a few juniors like Nandani and Navya standing and there was a heated conversation going on.

Nandini - Dr Shikhawat we can not just give up. As a doctor it's our duty to do whatever we can and even if there is a chance of 5% we should try.

Dr Singh - I respect your dedication Dr Murthy but you are just an intern yet and you do not have a say in this. The treatment you are saying has never been practiced.

Nandini - It has never been practiced in this hospital sir but it has been practiced in New York.

Dr Singhania - Nandani be more clear.

Nandini - A few months back in New York Grace hospital Dr Manik Malhotra performed this surgery on a 17 year old using the same method the only difference here is the position but we can do it sir ,there is a chance we can save the patient. He is just 11, he has his whole life ahead, please give it a chance.

Dr Singh - Enough Nandani, you are not a neurologist ,so stop right there.

Nandini -  with due respect sir I am am inclined towards cardio that does not mean I don't know about it. I have done 2 years of my internship with a neurologist before inclining towards cardiology. I know .

Dr Singhania - Give me more information.

Nandini -  Just a second sir.

She opened her laptop and showed the article of Manik to all the 8 doctors learnt there, no doubt they were impressed with her knowledge and his skills which was not hidden to anyone.

Dr Singhania - Hmm this is impressive but then again no one has done it here and

before he could continue Nandani interrupted him

Nandini - There is always a first time sir if we don't try how will we ever be able to do it?

Dr Singhania - you didn't let me finish Nandini, I was saying the same and for that we will require Dr Malhotra's assistance. Arrange a video call Asap.

Nandini - uhh about that, I have already contacted the doctors there. Dr Malhotra was in a surgery and will connect to us very soon.

She said a bit shyly looking down and again fidgeting with her fingers praying to her aaiyappa.

Dr Singh groaned in irritation while Dr Singhania laughed a little seeing Nandini and was amazed by her like always.

Dr Singhania - You were so sure that I'll agree? 
He said smirking

Nandini bit her lower lip to control her embarrassment

Nandani -  I know patients life matter to you the most .

Everyone else gave an encouraging smile to her and started discussing about the case.

NEW YORK GRACE HOSPITAL

TIME : 7:15 P. M
Monday
( India is 9 hours 30 mins ahead of New York)

Coming out of the surgery and taking a deep breath saying a thank you prayer to God he made his way towards his cabin.

"Manik" someone called from behind while he turned.

Manik - Cabir, thank God you are here. I am done , let's go out, I had a really hectic surgery and I need a break.

Cabir was Manik's best friend they were each others shadows since childhood. They shared an unbreakable bond. They were unique in their own way. There was never any competition , any jealousy between them one was always happy for the success of the other. Some bonds are made in heaven and this friendship was one of that.

Cabir - Argh, I would have loved to go out brother but unfortunately you are not free.

Manik - I don't have any other surgeries lined up and it's already time for my shift to get over, is there an emergency?

Cabir - No, there was a call from India about the tumour you removed 7 months back, they want to perform that but there is a slight problem and also they need your assistance, so you need to do a video conference with them ...

Looking at the time and then keeping his hands on his shoulders  they both entered his cabin

Cabir - In exactly 10 Mins.

Manik took a deep breath, he was exhausted but not enough to not help them. He was surprised that someone was willing to do that surgery as it was very complicated and no one took that risk . The thought made him smile that someone was as eager as him to save lives.

Cabir - The girl was something man.

Manik - huh ? Which girl?

Cabir - I don't remember the name but the one who called to arrange this. I thought yo say it won't be possible seeing you were too busy but that girl was something, she was adamant to save the life and I won't lie , she spoke like you.

Manik gave an impressed smile to him, drank water and called India.

Just in the second ring the call gets picked up and he gets welcomed by all the doctors present in India.

He smiled and greeted everyone ever or charmingly radiating the warmth to all the doctors too.

After a few exchange of pleasantries, they came to the main topic.

Manik - I understand the situation but the tumour is not exactly where I operated. If we do the same thing, we might damage a nerve which can result in a lot of things like loss of speech, memory loss etc.

Dr Singh (From the video call) - exactly my point, I have been saying this, it won't work. The girl is just wasting time.

Manik cringed his eyebrows not knowing about whom he was talking and also at the tone of his words.

Dr Singhania gave a look to Dr Singh which shut him up and then gave a warm smile to Manik. Then he turned around and eyed someone to come closer, that when he saw a sight of a girl coming closer. He understood that she must be the one who called and the one about him Dr Singh was talking about.

Dr Singhania -  Dr Nandini come here, it was your idea and I think you should also be the one discussing everything.

Manik looked at the girl who was nervously playing with her fingers without looking up and sat down nodding her head, not once she looked at him.

Dr Singh - It's my patient and I know we can't do anything .

Manik - With due respect we have not seen all the options yet.

Manik said looking at Dr Singh and found a little smile on Nandini's face.

Dr Tiwary - How about we take another route, instead of accessing it from the front, we go from the back.

One of the doctors said.

Before Manik could reply Nandini spoke

Nandini - No that will hit 3 of his nerves causing paralysis and in worst cases death.

For the first time she looked up as she addressed everyone.

Nandini was like this, she was not a confident person but when it came to her work, of her saving lives she didn't care who it was on the other side.

Nandini didn't glaced at him at first because she was nervous. She knew about him well everyone knew about him , read his articles, he was a gem,  a revolution in himself, the future of neurology and being in front of him although through video call was a huge thing.

Manik felt happy, Cabir was not exactly wrong.

Manik- so Dr...

Nandini - Murthy, Nandini Murthy .

Manik - yes Dr Nandani, what are you plans for this?

Dr Singh - She is into cardiology.

He snapped and Manik saw Nandini clenching her hands in a tight fist.

Manik- That does not mean she does not know anything about neuro.

Nandini instantly looked up at him and at the same time Manik looked at her.

Dr Singhania interrupted and gave a few solutions none of this seemed to work.

About 15 mins later Nandini immediately got up and hurriedly left.

Dr Singh - see ,she is so irresponsible. She is just wasting time .

Dr Singhania - Enough , I don't think you are interested in the patient, looks like you are more interested in proving Nandani wrong. I and everyone here which includes you too knows she is the most dedicated one here and just because she left your service for cardio does not give you the right to behave like this with her. I am noticing this from so long, you keep on taunting her, just because she does not say anything does not mean she can't and you and we'll are aware of that. 
Nandini is ...

Nandini entered hurriedly and it seemed like she just ran a marathon.

Huffing she sat down immediately with a laptop in her hand.

Everyone looked stunned seeing her, she gulped the whole glass of water in a go and then kept the laptop and started doing something.
All the time Manik was just listening to everyone and seeing just one.

Nandini - give me just a min, I am so sorry for leaving.

She said looking apologetically towards Manik.

Manik gave her a nod and himself started to think about the ways to treat the patient.

Nandini then turned the laptop towards everyone and started speaking.

Nandini - If we take this... ( I won't bore you with instructions, let's come to the point :') ). So whichever way you go you will definitely hit a nerve.

There was a silence for a minute when Manik and Nandani both said together

Manan- unless

They both looked at each other and smiled whole heartedly

Manan- we change the position of the patients head instead of our techniques.

Their eyes twinkled finding the solution and the whole room erupted in praises. He could see the whole universe dancing in her eyes.

Manik then gave all the details and everything which should we done and everyone listened to him carefully.

Manik - There are still risks but everything we do have risks. so I guess, all the best. It was a pleasure to be with such brilliant minds.

He smiled and looked at Nandani and blinked both his eyes in assurance.

Manik - also I would like to know who all will work on this.

Dr Singhania - It was supposed to be doctor Singh but I don't think he is much interested (he said sarcastically) . I'll do it. Nandini and Navya will you like to assist?

Navya immediately nodded while Nandini looked like she is in a deep thought and then nodded.

Dr Singhania - thank you Dr Malhotra. You truly are the future of neurology.

Manik - thank you but this praise should be for someone else. Dr Murthy I wish you were more into neuro, it would have been a pleasure to work with you.

Nandini smiled at him
Nandini - Th... Thank you sir.

Manik - stop making me feel old, I'll  prefer Manik.

Dr Singhania - okay, everyone let's wrap up. Nandani give the details and we shall end this meeting.

Nandini stood up and give the details for everyone again about everything and everyone including Manik listened to her.

Nandini -... And then we take out the tumour. So let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Manik- I am hoping for the best.

He said to her and smiled.
With that the Manik wished everyone
and ended the call not before looking at Nandini ,there eyes met and it showed nothing but respect for each other.

Cabir was right, she definitely is something Manik thought and smiled.
