29 Softy

Damian POV

Even though our little man was born a few weeks early, he was still as perfect as he looked. He just didn't weigh as much yet. But that wasn't a big problem, the doctor said. As long as he kept drinking enough milk, he would gain weight quickly.

"I can't believe how incredibly small he looks in your arms." Feliz said tiredly as I held Camilo against my chest.

"I know. I'm afraid of breaking him..." I replied nervously.

"Don't worry, D... You can handle it. He's a small little bean, but he's not as fragile as he looks." she mumbled as her eyes slowly fell shut.

"Mommy's right, isn't she my little buddy? And you both need your sleep. Daddy will take good care of you. I promise you that. You know, I'm glad you chose me as your dad and not that idiot." I said quietly to our son and then gave him a kiss on the head.

"Hey no swear words, Mister..." breathed Feliz sleepily.

"Sorry... It's still true, Camilo." I chuckled.

"You're such a little angel. Such a beautiful baby. But you could have looked a bit like me. After all, I baked you for so long. So what, huh? At least I have two of you now." I heard Vanessa say to the baby as I packed up our things and everything else.

She cradled the little man gently in her arms while he held her finger tightly. I couldn't help but take another photo.

"Okay, I think we've got everything. Do you want to buckle him in or should I?" I asked my wife once I was sure I really had everything.

"You do that... I have to go to the bathroom before we leave." she replied, gave the baby another kiss and then handed him over to me.

I had actually hoped that she would do it, but now I wanted to prove to myself that I was up to the task.

"All right little man, work with me. We can do this..." I whispered.

And to my amazement, it went easier than I had expected. I sighed with relief. But then arms wrapped around me from behind. I gently rubbed her arms and hands until I finally turned to face her.

"How are you, Mommy?" I wanted to know before I gave her a kiss.

"Still pretty sore, but I can't wait to get home. And I'm looking forward to seeing how Pom-Pom reacts to the baby. It makes me a bit nervous. I don't want her to get jealous or anything. I love both my babies. With fur and without. And I love you," she replied.

"I love you too, Feliz. And I don't think we need to worry about Pom. She will adore Camilo." I said as I stroked her back.

Tired, she laid her head against my chest and took a few deep breaths. Slowly she relaxed.

"Let's take our boy home," she then said.

The drive took a little longer than it normally would have. I drove extra carefully to get mommy and baby home as gently as possible. It probably wasn't necessary, maybe even quite overkill. But I wanted to be on the safe side.

I kept hearing Feliz giggling softly as she sat in the back seat holding Camilo's hand. She didn't say anything, though.

"Welcome home, baby boy," I said as I took the baby carrier in one hand before reaching for my wife's with the other.

A contented sigh escaped her as we slowly walked towards the front door. She was just about to unlock it when the door flew open. A beaming Rhea greeted us. She immediately pulled Vanessa into her arms so that she could hug her tightly.

"Congratulations," she said and I could have sworn I saw tears in her eyes.

"Thank you, Nightmare," Feliz replied before Rhea hugged me tightly too.

Pom-Pom watched the whole thing from a distance as if she didn't know what to do.

"Pom! Come here, my girl. Come say hi." her mommy said softly and got down on her knees as she held out her hands to our dog lady.

That seemed to be all she needed. She quickly came to greet us with her tail wagging. Then she sniffed curiously at the baby carrier.

"You should rest, Feliz," I said.

"Come with your family, Pom. You can look at your brother." she replied and lifted Pom in her arms.

"Oh look at you... You are definitely the best looking Blackout ever. You guys did well." Rhea said as she got a real look at Camilo.

I unbuckled him, gave him a kiss and then placed him gently in her arms.

"That's one way of putting it." Vanessa laughed as she cuddled with Pom.

Our dog didn't take her eyes off the baby for a second. And from the looks of it, she seemed to like him.

"Can someone tell me his name now?" Rhea asked impatiently.

"Oh yes... of course. Rhea... this here is Camilo. Camilo Mykel Priest. Camilo, this is your aunty Rhea. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun together." I said.

"You bet we will." she agreed.

I sat down next to my wife and put an arm around her shoulder. She leaned against me before yawning profusely.

"Why don't you lie down?" I asked gently and then gave her a kiss on the hair.

"That sounds like a good idea. But he'll probably be hungry soon." she said quietly.

"Oh yes... I should go. I've put some food in the fridge for you. You don't have to worry about that today." Rhea then said and got up to give Feliz the baby.

"Thank you, you're an angel. Give him to his daddy. I need to wash my hands first." she replied.

"Come here, buddy. Oh... Now I know why you want to leave." I said as a smell hit my nose.

"Yep...call me if you need anything. I love you guys. Bye bye Mr. Camilo. See you soon." Rhea replied.

"She's such a softy." Feliz giggled after Rhea left.

She put Pom-Pom on the floor and went into the kitchen to wash her hands while I made my way upstairs. As expected, Pom-Pom followed us.

"Everyone goes soft when it comes to a baby, Feliz," I said.

"You would know, D." she laughed as she followed us.
