26 Killing the mood

Vanessa POV

Humming, I packed my books into one of the countless crates until I suddenly felt a strong kick that took my breath away.

"Hey, little guy! That wasn't nice... Could you leave my kidney alone?" I said as I rubbed the sore spot on my stomach where our son's foot was still visible.

Hopefully he would turn a bit soon, because these strong kicks were anything but pleasant as he somehow always seemed to hit the same spot. And that didn't make the packing process any easier.

I wanted to get as much done as possible in the morning before it got really hot. The summer heat was getting to me more and more. Even though I was used to it, it was a whole different level during pregnancy. I tried to take as many breaks as possible and drink a lot. That seemed to help the most.

It was now just under 10 weeks until my due date. And that meant that my, but especially Damian's, anticipation, tension and impatience was very high.

So it was good that we were about to move into the new house. To our astonishment, our first offer was accepted straight away. Nevertheless, it took us a while to complete the process and the minor renovations. I could hardly wait to get everything set up. Normally I wasn't the type who liked choosing furniture and decorations, but at the moment it was completely different. Maybe it was because I was in the middle of nesting mode. Or maybe it was because I wanted everything to be perfect for our first home together.

"Feliz? Where are you, baby girl? I've got your early lunch." I heard from the door and Pom rushed to greet Damian.

I just loved how much she adored him. She always had. It was probably because he had chosen her. To this day, she was the best birthday present I had ever received.

"Oh, finally we're starving!" I said as he came into the living room grinning broadly.

However, he quickly lost it when he saw what a big box I had in my hands.

"What do you think you're doing? You know you are not supposed to lift anything that... heavy... ohhh..." he scolded me and quickly took it from me only to realize that it was empty and therefore light as a feather.

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the way he looked at me. It was really sweet that he was so worried. Even if it was for no reason this time.

"You're really sweet, D. But I promise I'll take good care of myself and the little man. Don't worry." I said and put a hand on his cheek.

"I guess dad mode is already in full effect." he replied before giving me a kiss.

"Mmh yes and I love it." I said against his mouth.

"Oh I know you do. What do you say... do we have some time to do some interesting things?" he asked, his voice lower than normal.

"Yes, we do, if you hurry. Rhea is picking me up in half an hour to take me shopping. Your son has made sure that the new clothes don't fit anymore either." I breathed as his hands began to stroke my skin.

"To be honest, I don't see a problem... If it's up to me, you can stay naked all the time," he said.

"You're such a naughty boy, Damian... Why don't you take me to the bedroom, Sir?" I replied.

"You don't have to tell me twice, baby," he murmured before bending down and scooping me up in his arms.

I giggled like a little kid at his exuberance as I put my arms around his neck to hold on tight. But before we got to the bedroom, the doorbell rang.

"Ignore it. It can't be her yet," I said.

"Hello? Vanessa? Are you ready? The door was open. Where are you?" we heard Rhea's voice calling from the door not a second later.

Groaning, Damian laid me down on the bed before burying his head in one of the countless pillows.

"Go away..." he mumbled.

"There you are! Sorry, I know I'm early. What are you doing? Good God, Priest! The woman is already pregnant, give her a break." she said after her eyes wandered over the picture that presented itself to her.

"Excuse me? She's at least as bad as me..." he mumbled in his defense.

"Hey! Okay yes... guilty, but I have a good excuse." I replied and stroked his back.

"Yeah, I won't comment on that for now. Can you wait until tonight or should I wait in the car?" Rhea asked.

"Since you're the biggest mood killer in the world, we'll wait until tonight. I'll keep packing in the meantime. And you, take good care of my family, do you hear me?" Damian said to her.

"Will do." she replied and then left the room to give us at least a moment alone.

"Don't pout... I promise I'll make it up to you tonight." I said before pressing a kiss to his shoulder.

"Promise?" he asked with his big, dark puppy eyes.

"I promise... And who knows... maybe I'll find something special that I'll let you tear off my body." I whispered while my fingertips drew little circles on his upper arm.

It worked. The pouty look disappeared and the smirk returned instead.

"Then it's almost worth it." he murmured and I couldn't miss the sparkle in his eyes.

"I should hope so. And now please help me up... " I laughed as I tried to get up only to realize that I couldn't do it on my own.
