12 The right path
Damian POV
Slowly but surely I woke up from one of the best sleeps I've had in recent times. Maybe even the best ever. I was lying on my back with my eyes closed when I felt Feliz's hand gliding gently over my chest. A smile crept across my face and I put my hand on top of hers.
"Are you always going to stare at me like that now, Feliz?" I asked in a raspy morning voice.
"Maybe... Although it's not the first time we've woken up in the same bed, it feels brand new. And to my surprise, you didn't snore." she giggled softly.
"I told you I don't snore. You've probably always done it yourself," I chuckled.
Since my eyes were still closed, I didn't see it coming when she gave me a small, yet affectionate pat on the forehead with her free hand.
"Hey! What was that for?" I wanted to know as I looked into her beautiful eyes.
It was another detail I hadn't paid attention to before. I had no idea what I had missed.
"Despite all this, I'm not going to put up with your sass, mister." she laughed.
The next moment she leaned forward and gave me a sweet kiss. And then another before she pulled back a little to smile at me softly, almost shyly.
"I could get used to this..." she breathed before leaning towards me again.
"You will..." I promised afterwards.
"Do you want to tell me what exactly made you come here at 2am?" she wanted to know while the hand I wasn't still holding gently wiped the hair from my forehead.
"Let me just say that I had a dream that opened my eyes and I couldn't wait a second longer to see you," I replied, lifting my free hand to pull her back towards me by the chin.
"And what exactly was this dream about?" she asked, her lips moving on mine and her tone sounding seductive.
"Oh, I don't think I can tell you that..." I said in a weak voice.
"Aww... aren't you?" she pouted.
"But I could show you..." I replied and pulled her on top of me without waiting for an answer.
"Oh...it was that kind of dream." she said in surprise as I sat up to wrap my arms around her.
"It was a damn good dream." I murmured as I began to kiss her neck.
Vanessa put her hands against mine. I could imagine her eyes being closed and enjoying my touch. She hummed softly as she tilted her head to the side to give my lips a little more room to move.
Slowly, her fingers dug into my hair as she began to rock her hips.
"Listen, D..." she breathed weakly.
"What do you need, Feliz?" I wanted to know.
"I need you to stop..." she whispered and leaned back to look at me.
She panted slightly as she closed her eyes to compose herself. Then she looked at me longingly.
"What's wrong?" I asked, my voice low.
"I think we should wait. It's not that I don't want to...believe me, me and my hormones want to.... But...it's happening too fast. And I want to... need to be sure that everything is okay with my baby first. If I'm completely honest... I'm a bit scared." she said gently, stroking my face.
Of course I knew where all this was coming from. And she was right. It was a bit too fast when you thought about what she was going through. We had to do this right. The last thing either of us wanted was to somehow mess up our friendship.
"I get it, I really do. What do you say we start with the classic first step? A date. And since it's almost Valentine's Day, I could come up with something." I replied calmly.
I saw her start to smile. Feliz relaxed a little and rested her forehead against mine.
"Better?" I asked and gave her a kiss on the nose.
"Mmmhmm..." she replied softly.
"Okay... Let's make something to eat. I'm sure you and baby are starving." I said before giving her a pat on the butt.
Immediately Pom barked loudly as if she couldn't believe we weren't paying attention to her.
"Yes, Pom-Pom, you get breakfast too. Such a little diva." I said with a laugh.
"It's not her fault. She gets it from her mommy." Vanessa replied and gave me a quick kiss before climbing off my lap.
I let myself fall back and groaned deeply. How had I failed to realize how dangerous this woman was? I hadn't had the slightest idea. But now that I had opened this door, I had no doubt that we were on the right path. Perhaps we had been on this path for years without realizing it.
