Snow Globe Sky

A week later, at school, I sat down at lunch. Jesse had a different lunch period, so I was alone.

"Nice shirt." I looked into Sara's mean, brown eyes. Her curly brown hair was perfectly done.

I looked down at my black Beach Fossils tee shirt. "Thanks." Sara was plain, and a little chubby, but she considered herself superior because she was a pro at sports.

"You think you're cool, don't you." She sneered at me, her eyes almost disappearing. "Think again, freak." Sara walked away.

Nobody really liked me. They all thought I was stuck-up because I was quiet.

School's out. I went outside to smoke.

Give me something to get me by.

Summer nights, and city lights.

Give me a chance to try

Let me see if the beast bites.

Angel. The sun behind him makes his whole face glow.

He can't be mine. I know that something will go wrong. Just relax.

"Hey." I don't make eye contact. Don't. Get. Attached.

"Wanna get out of here?"

"Sure."

"Where are we going?" I asked, drumming my fingers on my leg. My ripped jeans and Timberlands were still cold from outside.

Laughing, he answered. "Do you really not trust me at all? I'm not going to kidnap you."

We reached a secluded lake. Clear blue, with a reflection of the sky in it.

"It's beautiful." I whispered. He walked up to the edge of a dock. We sat at the very edge, our feet skimming the water. We were silent for a moment.

"I'm happier now then I have been in a while," I looked into the looking glass water. "So happy that I feel like something bad is going to happen really soon to ruin it." I laughed a little. "I hope it stays like this." Jesse turned to me.

"I think I love you."

His words echoed in my head.

How could I not get attached.

He was like quicksand.

"Me too." I turned and kissed him.

Why couldn't it stay like that forever. Just us, a lake, and a snow globe sky.
