Chapter 60:

"Dinner was delicious, Mrs. Miller," Cameron said, rubbing his stomach.

Mom gave Cameron the death stare and I almost choked on the second glass of milk I had inhaled. Milk was my new obsession, that and peanut butter cookies. I wanted lots of peanut butter cookies. I ate like twelve of them before I even sat down for dinner. There was no chewing involved, just huge bites and swallowing. I didn't even take the time to taste them.

"Riley, it was delicious, Riley." He smiled back sheepishly.

My mom blushed. She did deserve the pat on the back for the fantastic Christmas dinner she just made. It was absolutely fabulous. She outdid herself tonight as always. She loved Christmas and always went above and beyond to make it memorable for all of us.

This was one Christmas I never wanted to forget. This was the first Christmas I felt truly whole and it was because of the wonderful man running his thumb over my hand as he held it under the dining room table.

After everyone was sufficiently overstuffed, the menfolk trickled out to the living room to go sit by the fire next to the Christmas tree. I hung back with my mom to perform a miniature cleanup of the mess. It took multiple trips to and from the kitchen to clear the table. Everything would have gone so much faster if everyone just took their own damn plates to the sink.

Cleaning up really didn't bother me as much as I made it sound. Having the alone time with my mom today was nice. We didn't ever get to spend time like this together anymore and it was long overdue.

She and I had a great day together, prepping for dinner while my dad and Cameron sat in the other room cursing at Jax for kicking their ass at some war video game. We talked about a lot of things, which included the record label's reaction to my refusal to sign the contract and all of the various things that had me on edge. She did an excellent job of trying to comfort and support me. I had a great mom; I always had, even when I didn't understand her.

After about twenty minutes of boxing up the leftovers, the most amazing, warm arms snuck themselves around me. Cameron pulled me tight against him and I melted into him. I loved this man more than I ever knew was possible. I was in an ooey-gooey sort of mood like those Christmas romance movies I had been watching all week.

"Do you know how stunning you look tonight?" Cameron whispered in my ear and ran his arm across my stomach. "How do you get even more gorgeous every second that passes?"

"Laying it on a little thick there." I smiled and turned my head to kiss his soft lips.

My mom was smiling when she overheard our conversation. Her eyes were crinkling at the corners as she not-so-secretly watched us. Mom had always been a huge Cameron fan. She had always rooted for the two of us and she finally got her wish.

"I swear I am the luckiest man in the world." He pinched my butt and left the kitchen to go back to the testosterone-filled festivities in the living room.

If he kept this up tonight, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from dragging him up to my old bedroom to jingle his bells. My libido was on supersonic overdrive, poor Cameron didn't get much rest nowadays.

My mom and I finished up not long after Cameron left and went out to join the guys in the living room. I plopped down next to Cameron, who looked relieved to have me back by his side. It was getting pretty late and I was starting to get overly sleepy. It didn't take much these days for me to succumb to my exhaustion. I let out a loud yawn and squeaked like a mouse. Everyone's heads turned to look at me and I shrugged a sheepish apology. My cheeks flamed red at the attention.

"You look tired, sweet pea." My dad said, studying me from across the room. He had been giving me that strange look all day. I had been slightly avoiding his gaze most of the night and he was starting to get angry about it. I think he was trying to figure out why I was dodging him. My stomach dropped when he turned his head and narrowed his eyes.

I smiled back at him and he shook his head like he was annoyed with me.

"Cami, we should probably start heading home, it's getting late and you have to work in a couple of hours." I reminded him.

"Yeah, you're right. I'll go start the truck." Cameron kissed my forehead and got up off the couch. He grabbed his coat from the front door and placed it over his broad shoulders. He pulled a hat on over his head and a pair of thick, wooly black gloves that matched.

As soon as the door was open and he stepped outside, I could feel the bite of the bitter cold. This was shaping up to be a brutal winter this year. I was glad I had Cameron to keep me nice and toasty.

I stared at him out of the window as he ran towards the brand new burgundy truck I bought him for Christmas. It was one of the perks from the royalty checks that were still coming in from my music. I had also made a little money picking up a few sessions at the recording studio with my dad. Since I didn't have a job, he would call me when a musician bailed on him. Cameron had no clue how much I was making since it fluctuated so much. I had skimmed some off the top of every check to buy him the beauty. I gave it to him a little early; it wasn't like I could wrap it and put it under our miniature Christmas tree.

I loved how speechless he was when he saw it. He felt guilty I spent so much on him, but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. He had taken care of me for so long that I wanted to take care of him too for a change. He deserved it.

The Christmas present he gave me was pretty nice too. Thinking about it made my insides flutter. I loved my present. He gave me mine a few weeks ago. It was the best present I could ever ask for.

"It is way too cold out there." Cam ran inside. He tried to brush as much of the snow off of him as he could before walking in the door, but he missed a few spots, which meant my mom would spend the rest of the night scrubbing the floors as soon as we left. "Jess, we should get moving. It's getting a lot worse out there. It's almost solid ice now. I don't want to keep you out in this, darling."

"That's it. You are staying here tonight. There's no way I'm letting you leave in this weather." Dad stood up and put his foot down.

"Daddy, we live five minutes away. I think we will be fine. Cameron has to drive in this all the time for work and the truck is all-wheel drive with brand new tires." I laughed. He still didn't like the fact I had officially moved into Cameron's house without asking his permission. Dad felt like he should have had a say in it.

In the end, he would have chosen Cameron for me.

I mean, who wouldn't? Right?

"You be safe getting home. It's cold outside. You need to bundle up so you don't get sick. Call me when you get home and then first thing tomorrow when you wake up. If you need anything, don't hesitate. Even if it is the middle of the night." My mom smiled proudly at me as she tried to put my pea coat on me and button it. I squirmed away from her wanting to do it myself. I was still an adult and it was like she was still looking at me like I was that little girl who couldn't take care of herself. She was a little bundle of energy. She had been grinning at me all night and had tears threatening to come out at any second.

"Don't worry, Riley. I promise I will keep these two safe." Cam said, running his hand over my belly. It had started swelling up a little over the last two weeks and it was getting a little more difficult to hide my excited nervousness from everyone.

My Dad looked down with wide eyes and back up to my face. His mouth was hanging open in shock. My mom reached up to his chin and closed it for him. She was trying not to laugh at him. I told her when I first got here because I couldn't hold it any longer. I didn't plan on Dad finding out this way. I was hoping to have Cameron across state lines when I told Dad so he couldn't murder him.

I bit my lip and wrapped my hand over Cam's as he tenderly supported my growing little bump. My dad teared up and looked down where Cameron and I were holding hands. He couldn't form words as he looked back at my mom's huge grin.

"You...umm...you...and...he... and... that...there's a...." He stuttered.

I nodded with tears in my eyes.

Jax came skidding up behind my parents with an amused grin on his face.

"This is fucking unbelievable. Jessa is having a Cheeto." He bellowed. He looked around, waiting for the laughter to erupt. When it didn't, he began smacking my dad's arm. "Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad. Dad. She's a having a fucking Cheeto."

My dad turned his head and gritted his teeth at Jax. His jaw started flexing back and forth. He was about to lose it.

"Oh, come on, I can't believe I am the only one in this house who thinks it's funny," Jax whined.

"It is a little funny." Cameron shrugged as he looked down at me. I turned my head to look over my shoulder to nod back.

"Shut up." My dad snapped.

"Don't mind your dad. He's just... your dad. I think he's a little tired too." My mom said, latching onto his arm to keep him in place.

"Well, you should go get some rest then. Goodnight, Grandpa." Cam smiled and patted him on the shoulder before ushering me out into the icy blizzard.
