Chapter 32:
My blood ran cold the moment I felt Nathan's warm, wet breath on my neck. His hand immediately trailed down my back as he leaned into me from behind. He had to be losing his mind. There was no other explanation for why he was standing here with me right now. Nathan knew Cameron was with me and he still made a point to mosey on over to torment me. It didn't make any sense.
"Did you miss me?" He purred into my ear.
"Not one bit," I growled as I dug my feet into the ground and shoved my elbow back into his stomach to get him to back away from me. Nathan let out a groan and started rubbing the spot I had drilled.
A self-important woman in one of the checkout lines next to us looked back at me with a hateful glare. Apparently, my trashy presence near her vicinity must be ruining her day. I had to bite back the words I was about to exchange with her if her eyes shifted in my direction one more time.
"I guess not everyone is a Jessa Miller fan." Nathan reached back around me to place his hand on my hip.
"I swear if you touch me again, I will scream," I grumbled out through gritted teeth so the rude lady near us didn't hear me.
"Go ahead. Do it if you want to. You know how much I enjoy it when you scream for me." I looked up into Nathan's dark, bloodshot eyes as he raised his eyebrows suggestively at me.
"Cameron will be back any second. If you know what's good for you, you will leave." I threatened. It wasn't like I was eager to get Cam involved in this, but it was the only thing I had right now to use to defend myself from Nathan.
"And if you know what is good for your boy, you will take a walk with me right now." Nathan retorted.
"I will never go anywhere with you."
"Fine, I guess I'll just have to go make a phone call instead." Nathan removed his hand from around me and started digging in his pocket. He pulled out his cellphone and began swiping across the screen dramatically.
Nathan had always been a bit of a diva.
He raised his eyes to me as he slowly started placing the phone to his ear. Nathan knew I would stop him before he could go through with it. He always managed to back me into a corner and find ways to manipulate me. This time he had concocted the perfect way to get me to comply. He knew I would do anything to keep him from hurting Cameron.
I lunged at him and tried to yank his arm down away from his body. Cameron's reputation would be ruined if Nathan went through with this, whether it was true or not.
"Don't." I pleaded with him.
"You know what you have to do then. Let's get out of here, sweetheart." Nathan shoved his phone back in his pocket. He locked his hand around my wrist and began pulling me to the front of the store. His eyes were darting back and forth in paranoia as he looked around to make sure no one was following us.
Just when I thought we were going to leave out the entrance, he veered right and started shoving me back into the nook where the restrooms were located. He pinned me tight against the wall with his body weight and then stuck his head back out to look at the spot where we left the cart.
"What are you looking at?" I tried to crane my neck to peek around the corner to look too.
"Cameron's back and searching for you. Come on, in here." Nathan started to drag me into the women's restroom, but we were blocked by a yellow gate with an out-of-order sign posted on it. He yanked my arm hard and pulled me in the opposite direction towards the men's side. He was panicking; Nathan knew there was a chance he would get caught and the game would be over.
There was no telling what would happen if Cameron saw Nathan again.
He pulled me towards the back of the bathroom, where a few stalls were located, and opened the last one up. There was a foul odor seeping out of the stall. It swirled around in the air and went straight inside my nostrils.
"I'm not going in there. It stinks." I argued.
Nathan growled and grabbed my arm. He shoved me into the stall so roughly that my feet flew out from underneath me. I caught myself with my hand against the metal on the back of the toilet right before I my head could hit the wall. My wrist twisted at a funny angle and a sharp pain shot up through it and into my forearm. Something inside popped and I cried out.
"Shut your fucking mouth." Nathan grabbed my neck and shoved me back against the locked stall door.
"Why won't you just leave us alone?" My words came out like small squeaks as my lip quivered.
"I will never leave you alone, Jessa. You should know that by now. I always know where you are and exactly what you are doing." He cooed like he was whispering sweet nothings in my ear.
Nathan leaned down like he was going to kiss me and squeezed a little bit harder, cutting off my air supply a little more. The look of pleasure on his face was sickening. He held all the power right now and he knew it.
"Have you been following me?" It felt like the thought was absolutely absurd, but the way he said it had me shaking with fear. The only way he would know what I was up to was if he was watching me.
"What if I am?" He grinned as his lips brushed mine. I cringed at the coldness rolling off of him. "What if I told you that I stand outside the window of Cameron's house every night and watch the filthy things you do for him? What can you do about it, Jessa? Nothing. That is what you can do. You know as soon as you open that dirty little mouth that I will end him for good. Do you want that? Do you want to be the reason your Cameron loses everything?"
"Why are you doing this to him?" I questioned.
"He took something that belongs to me and I want it back." Nate's eyes narrowed.
"He didn't take anything from you," I argued.
"He did, but I will get it back. I always do. He has been trying to steal it from me for years even though he knew it was mine first." Nathan's jaw clenched.
"What are you even talking about?" I was lost. I had no idea what Nathan was referring to.
"Did you know that the first night I fucked your tight little virgin pussy, he sat outside the door listening to everything we did?" Nathan's grasp loosened on my neck and he started running his hand along the line of my jaw until he cupped the back of my head.
"He wasn't there, Nathan. He told me he didn't go to that party." Nathan was wrong. It didn't happen. Cameron would have never let him anywhere near me that night. I was in the middle of a full-fledged manic episode at the time. Cameron would have done everything in his power to stop him.
"He was there. He lied to you. Cameron listened to you cry as you bent over and took it from behind. You were such a natural, sweetheart." He laughed.
"I was sick." I closed my eyes. I didn't want to hear any more about that night. I had always been ashamed of how I was introduced to the lifestyle I used to live.
"Do you know what the best part about all of it was, Jessa? Cameron didn't care about you enough to stop it from happening. No one has ever cared about you. The only reason why he wants you now is because I got to you first and he doesn't like to lose." Nathan cackled.
"Are you done?" I hated that Nathan knew my insecurities and how to use them against me.
"For now, but I'll be in touch. You and I have a lot of catching up to do. Do me a favor tonight, fuck him in the living room with the blinds open again. I really loved watching your tits bounce." Nathan laughed and cupped my breast in his hand to squeeze it. "Hmmm...thought so, they are definitely bigger."
My stomach dropped. Cam and I didn't make it to the bed last night. I rode him reverse cowgirl for almost a full hour in the living room until my legs stopped working.
Nathan wasn't lying. He had actually been stalking me.
As a side note, Cameron and I needed to start being more aware of where we were having sex. If Nathan could see us, that meant his neighbors and any of the media who figured out where I was could too. I had flown under the radar for a long time, but it was bound to catch up with me eventually.
Nathan kissed my head and shook me roughly before leaving the stall. He turned and patted the wall as he walked out without saying another word. I stood there in the stall in complete shock, rubbing my sore wrist until I heard the water in the sink going off.
I walked out and rushed past one of the employees washing his hands.
"Hey, you're not supposed to be in here." He bellowed at me.
"Sorry, sorry. Wrong bathroom." I said, shielding my face as another man gawked at me from in front of a urinal.
When I got out to where my cart was at before I left, it was gone. I searched around frantically for it or any sign of Cameron.
I saw him standing near the other exit at the opposite end of the store with our cart of bagged groceries in front of him. He was pushing hair back off his head in frustration as he was talking to the greeter with a frown on his face.
I began sprinting across the store to get to him. My stomach was upset, my hand hurt, and I was not doing well. I felt like I was about to fall apart. They were going to have to pull out the floor scrubber to pick up the pieces of me if I didn't get to him.
"She's got dark curly hair. You had to have seen her come this way." Cameron's voice was strained.
"Maybe I saw someone who looked like that." The guy was scratching his head.
"Believe me. You wouldn't forget her if you did see her." I heard him saying to the guy at the door.
"You mean her?" The guy looked over and pointed at me.
I crashed my body into Cameron, almost knocking him down in the process. I held onto him as tightly as I could.
"Are you ok? Where'd you go? When I came back, you were gone. I was worried." He squeezed me back.
"I had to use the bathroom. I couldn't hold it." I said, avoiding eye contact with him. There was no way I could look him in the eye without him knowing something was wrong with me. I was already giving away too much in my reaction to finding him.
"What's wrong?" He leaned back and looked down at my face.
"I just have a lot on my mind. I'm sorry I didn't wait for you to come back to tell you where I was going. I couldn't wait any longer." I buried my head into his chest as I lied to him again.
"It's fine, Jessa. Let's go home and get you in that bathtub." Cameron started to walk away from the cart to let me push it. As soon as I grabbed it, my whole arm exploded with searing pain. There was definitely something wrong with my wrist.
"Cami, can you push the cart? It's too heavy." I begged him.
Cameron turned around and looked down at the six bags. They were all full of snack foods, except the one that had the enormous tub of crunchy peanut butter. He cocked his eyebrow at me suspiciously.
"I don't know. I don't think I will be able to handle it." He reached down and picked all six bags up with one finger and lifted them effortlessly out of the cart. "Feeling the burn. Such hard work. It's a good thing I have these huge muscles or that tub of peanut butter would be staying at the store tonight."
He started whistling and turned to walk out of the store.
"Yeah, if you were any scrawnier, then you would never be able to support that big head of yours," I mumbled under my breath as I followed behind him.
