chapter 23
Chapter 23
Tracking fae energy was difficult, especially when they didn't want to be found. The group weren't sure if they were the only ones on the search for this 'Demi'. What if Nero had gotten to them first? The group could be walking right into a trap and they wouldn't know it. It was one of the positives which came from not splitting up. They would make it rather difficult for Nero to catch them all. None of them had let their guard down either. They hadn't really done that in a long while.
"So you tutored her?" Laylian tried to start a casual conversation. The car was extremely quiet and they had nothing really to do as they trusted Addamak to take them to the correct place. "In what?" She had genuine curiosity, she didn't really know what regular fae learnt, then again her father was the queen's advisor's husband and Addamak was his brother, for all she knew he could be a noble or Aristocrat.
"Ahh just...general fae things." Addamak's response was rather suspicious. His tone was one of a nervous liar, anyone would be able to tell that. He cleared his throat and looked at them through the mirror. He wanted to see how many had picked up on his nerves, to his dismay everyone looked at him with an odd stare. "Just...things."
"Ohhh you were study partners?" Tyrell smirked, he wasn't sure if Addamak knew what he meant when he asked the question but the red which soon painted his cheeks confirmed it. Kelso clapped her hands with a smile.
"That's adorable." She said simply, everyone else now looked at them with confusion. How was being study partners adorable? "I'll tell you later, or you'll find out when we meet them." She told the rest of the group as she noticed their questioning glances. It was still odd for ther to think that they didn't know what it was, she had to remind herself constantly that these were no ordinary humans. Even though their, intriguing clothing choices should've been enough to remind her,
Landso was wearing a plain white shirt with a patterned sweater-vest over the top of it. It wasn't that unusual but he paired it with jogging bottoms which confused the humans quite a bit. When anyone had pointed it out he had said it was comfortable for him, most of the time he was sitting behind a table , nobody really paid any attention to what he wore besides his smart shirt.
Acheron wore something similar, instead of a sweater vest he wore a blazer with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, His clothing choice was rather fashionable and the clothes suited him. The matching tartan trousers looked smart in the human dimension and were quite a nice pop of colour, even if it made the humans feel underdressed.
Vansilla was probably dressed the strangest out of them all. The clothing in itself was not strange, it was stunning but the situation did not suit her clothing very well. She wore a lovely and elegant gown. Though it only reached her knees, which was a little strange to see as it was a unique choice, it was beautiful and fit for a princess. It was a royal purple colour and had long sleeves which seemed to cling to her wrists and then poof out slightly. Due to their haste upon leaving the fae dimension she hadn't bothered to get changed, having more pressing matters to attend to.
None of them really saw a point in getting changed, other than the strange looks they got when they were out in public, it didn't really make a difference. "We're close," Addamak said as he rounded the corner. They all jumped as the car ran over many small bumps. Looking out the window they would've thought that they had went into a different time.
Most of the houses which surrounded them were boarded up, the gardens were all overgrown and it looked as though the apocalypse had occurred. "Are-are you sure?" Devin asked with a little bit of fear in her voice. The place did not look at all welcoming.
"Yeah the last time we were in a place like this Laylian was kidnapped." Kelso said with no remorse, she was still a little...very bitter about the fact that her girlfriend was kidnapped. Who wouldn't be? The boarded up windows and the general unkemptness of the place reminded both twins of the mansion which Laylian and many other fae were kept in.
"Trust me if anyone knows where she would be it would be me." Addamak nearly had gritted teeth as he admitted that, knowing that the humans had caught onto something. "I assume she's hiding, your idn out that fae all over the planet are getting kidnapped, you don't exactly want to have a sign above your head with a neon arrow pointing to you."
"Ahh" Tyrell said as he leaned back into his seat with a smile. "That's why you stopped stu-sorry tutoring her." Kelso copied her brother's actions and they both crossed their arms in unison. It was a little creepy to those who hadn't known them for too long.
"Differences of opinion and stubbornness." They said at the same time, Addamak just groaned at the wheel, he looked like he was tempted to bash his head off it to make the conversation and teasing stop. His lack of talking confirmed it for the two as their grins widened. They were better at this then they thought they were.
"We should probably stop here and look." Addamak said after a while of silence and confused stares. They each got out of the car, which looked incredibly out of place in the ghost town. He preferred to hide in plain sight, have security in the fact he seemed like everyone else, whilst Demi liked to hide in the unknown and obvious spaces. The twins were right, they were both stubborn and they had different opinions. They worked well together until it came to something important which they didn't agree on, they were much younger back then and didn't really know how to work it out themselves.
"What exactly are we looking for?" Acheron stretched as he stood up straight, the car may not have been cramped but it had been a little while since they'd gotten in it. "Signs of life?" He was almost sarcastic as he looked around the empty streets.
"Sounds good to me" Vansilla said as she started walking away, Landso following quickly behind her.The twins and their partners looked at each other with knowing glints in their eyes. The cousins started to follow The pair who were walking ahead but the four had decided to stay at the back of the group with Addamak, making sure that everyone was alright and in eye sight.
