An Extra Surprise

Y/n lightly placed her hand against her skin as she felt what seemed like butterflies in her stomach. She's noticed the new sensation ever since she made it to Ogura City. It was terrifying, but still a welcoming feeling.

She sat in the middle of her bed, experiencing this moment. A sudden jolt of cold ran it's way from her fingertips to her core as she remembered she was all alone. Y/n had no one to share these moments with. That realization made times like this bittersweet and lonely.

Y/n considered what everyone would say if she wasn't alone. Giran might be excited, she assumed. He wasn't the type to get attached to anyone, but y/n was confident he wouldn't be able to resist her soon-to-be son or daughter. Y/n recalled Tomura and Kurogiri's last argument. She decided Kurogiri's reaction leaned a little more towards being upset. He clearly cared about Tomura, so she hoped Kurogiri would care about Tomura's child as well.

Her blood froze as she realized there would be no way to continue hiding just how close she and Tomura were from the rest of The League. The baby will be a huge neon sign. Undoubtedly, Himiko would be overjoyed. Though, y/n already decided Himiko isn't allowed to babysit alone. Y/n wasn't sure about the others. In fact, out of anyone, she wasn't sure how Tomura would take it.

Y/n felt the butterflies come back. "Are you a boy or a girl?" she asked. She paused and listened to the silence before deciding it didn't truly matter.

She thought of questions that mattered far more. "What will your favorite color be? Your favorite music?" Y/n wished there was a way to find out before the baby was born.

"We don't have a dog, but we have a Nomu. I hope that's okay with you." Y/n wondered if it was safe to keep Nobuo near the baby. He didn't do much of anything on his own. Even so, y/n wasn't sure if she could fully trust the creature with her baby.

"I wonder whose quirk you're going to have." Both Tomura and y/n didn't grow up with a parental figure with a similar quirk. Thinking about how the baby will have someone for them if they inherited either y/n's Liar or Tomura's Decay made her feel warm inside. She began to wonder what would happen if the baby develops a hybrid quirk. Y/n couldn't fathom what a mix between her and Tomura's quirks could possibly make.

Y/n felt the baby's movement for a little longer. The calm and content expression on her face shifted to something much darker. "I don't know what I'm doing." At this point, y/n wasn't sure if she was still talking to her unborn son or daughter or just to herself.

"How do I change a diaper? Where am I going to get the money to buy a crib? Where would I even put one? How am I going to hunt down anyone in The League with a baby strapped to me?" Y/n's mind ran in circles. One moment, she was panicking over how she was going to care for her child; the next, she is wondering how the child could put her search for The League on an indefinite hold.

Light poking through the holes in her curtains shined in y/n's direction. The sun was beginning to set. She put aside all her worries, for now.

It was time to head to the bar before the sun sets.

Y/n held her knife in her hands, hidden in her hoodie's pocket. She felt the sharp tip of the blade poke her finger. The sense of danger that loomed over her as she walked down the nearly empty streets eased as soon as she opened the bar's door. Now in the safety of her new temporary workplace, she felt like she could finally breathe.

The lights were left on the inside, but the bar was empty. Y/n poked her head over to the stairwell to see if Mr. Goda was upstairs. The lights were off. The whole building was eerily quiet. "Maybe he's still sleeping?" The man was walking the line between middle-aged and elderly, on top of the tired look on his face, y/n wouldn't be surprised if he slept in often.

Y/n pulled off her hoodie and began doing what Mr. Goda had her do the night before. She wiped down all the tables and the bar; made sure the glasses were dust free and adequately clean; and had begun to sweep the floor.

She kept her head towards the ground as she held the broom in her hands. Her eyes drifted to her baby bump. Y/n had no idea one would form so soon. She stopped and thought about it. Hasn't it been only four months? Y/n wasn't sure. It's been four months since she noticed that something felt off. However, now that she thought about it, she had no idea how long it has actually been.

The door opened, the shrill creek filled the air. Y/n's fight or flight instinct sunk in. She spun towards the door to face whoever was coming in. Her hand acted on its own and reached for the knife that she didn't have on her.

Mr. Goda came in, oblivious to the fact that y/n could have seriously hurt him if she didn't remove her hoodie earlier. The man glanced around the bar, his eyes scanning the tables quickly. "Looks nice, thank you, Atsuko."

Her heart was still rattling in her chest, she squeezed the broom handle in her hands to ease the trembling. Y/n forced out a smile and a nod.

He carried in several bags. Y/n offered to help, but he declined. Mr. Goda said the bags were too heavy for her. Y/n argued that he didn't know that. Adding that she was a lot stronger than she looked. He eyed her with a frown
Mr. Goda informed her that she knew what he meant. Y/n looked down and returned to her sweeping.

The silence between the two was long. It gave the atmosphere in the air a feeling of awkwardness and light tension. "So, how long around are you?" Mr. Goda asked.

Y/n fumbled with the broom's handle. She couldn't make eye contact. "Four months, maybe."

"Maybe?" he repeated. His voice made him sound more curious than anything else. Even so, y/n felt like she was being judged for not counting down to the second.

"I was going through- just so much stress. I wasn't in the right mind to notice something was off until about four months ago." Y/n stopped fidgeting with the handle and looked at Mr. Goda.

"So you could be four months in or five, maybe six and you'd have no idea?" It sounded terrible when he put it that way, but it was true. Y/n nodded.

At one point, she did try to figure out just how pregnant she was. It was near impossible to figure out when the baby was conceived. After their first time, Tomura acted as if he was addicted. Behind closed doors, the stress from going to Tartarus hit him much worse than he let on outside the privacy of their room. Sex became his way to destress, and y/n was more than happy to offer herself whenever Tomura wanted. Sometimes, that meant once a day, other times more.

At the time, she knew he was merely going through a phase. He found something he liked, and he overindulged. As selfish as it was, y/n wanted to take advantage of it while she could. She knew she had Tomura under her thumb, because she had something he wanted. If she needed something from Tomura, she knew that she could use his hormones against him.

At the end of everything, Tomura wasn't an affectionate person at heart. She thought once Tartarus blew over, and he was on to his next venture, the affection he showed would either slow down or stop altogether.

"Have you considered going to the doctor?" Mr. Goda asked.

"I..." her voice trailed off. Y/n was beginning to feel worse and worse for every question Mr. Goda asked. It wasn't like she didn't want to see a doctor, it was just not a possibility at the moment.

The look on her face must have given something away. The man sighed loudly before slowly wandering upstairs. After a moment, he came back down with his hands in his pockets. He held up several bills. "I'm going to leave this with your stuff. Use it to go see a doctor. After tonight, consider yourself fired until then."

Y/n didn't like feeling as though she was a charity case. She chewed on her cheek, wondering if she shouldn't have been so open after all. "Come back with a picture of your little guy. I think that'll be repayment enough." Y/n reluctantly nodded.

The conversation ended just as quickly as it came. Y/n helped Mr. Goda prepare the bar for the night.

Once open, the night was ordinary. Y/n chatted with the drunks, convincing them that they needed more alcohol in their systems. Some acted like fools; others were violent. Y/n kept herself away from the violent ones.

While she wiped down tables, preparing them for the next person to sit down and order, she tried to listen in on all the conversations around her. Undoubtedly, one of them would have information that could help her find somebody. Tonight wasn't that night.

By the end of the night, she got back to the motel with some mild back pains, a headache, and an extra hundred dollars with orders to go see a doctor.

Y/n felt like she couldn't sleep for days. She wanted to follow through with Mr. Goda's request, but something was stopping her. Watching her money disappear gave y/n the push she needed to make an appointment.

Y/n cooked herself up some instant noodles, changed, and left for the next town over.

Walking outside in Ogura City was stressful. The streets were littered with dangerous thugs trying to make it as fully-fledged villains. The cities outside of Ogura was just as stressful for different reasons.

Y/n instinctively held her head down every time a police officer or hero was nearby. At one point in her walk to the hospital, she noticed a hero was walking behind her. He lingered around her for a few minutes too long for her liking.

Unsurprisingly, the hero was merely on his patrol route. Still, the minutes he had spent walking behind y/n was agonizing. She was on edge, waiting for the hero to detain her. Y/n placed a hand on her stomach and lightly ran her fingers over her bump. The last thing she wanted to do was to give birth behind bars. That was the single most terrifying thought to her.

The hospital was huge on the outside. Flowers and bushes decorated the path to the front door. Y/n looked up at the building, a bit too intimidated to go inside.

Inside, everything was just as clean and shiny, just as she expected a hospital to be. Many doctors and nurses walked by y/n without giving her a second glance. Every so often, a woman's voice on an intercom would fill the hospital with messages for doctors to go elsewhere.

With some help from the man sitting behind the front desk and several doctors and nurses along the way, y/n eventually found where she was supposed to go. Y/n sat down in the corner of the office. She was excited to get a chance to see her baby for the first time.

"Atsuko Sasaki." Y/n immediately looked up. A nurse was standing in front of a door on the other side of the room. She got up and approached her with a nervous smile.

The woman led her to a small office. There, y/n got her weight and temperature taken and recorded. After that, she was led to a slightly bigger room. The nurse left y/n something to change into and stepped out, pulling a curtain over the windows before leaving.

Y/n got dressed and sat down on in the medical bed. She placed her hands on her stomach and felt the familiar butterfly sensation as she waited.

A doctor soon came in and extended her hand to y/n. "Good morning Mrs. Sasaki." Y/n took her hand and bit her tongue as she tried to not correct her. She wasn't married. Instead, she returned the doctor's greeting.

A machine was being wheeled in by a pair of large men. As they set it up, the doctor talked to y/n. "So, are you ready to see what you've been cooking in there?" Her voice was pleasant and calming. Y/n found her usually weary attitude towards strangers melt away.

Y/n laid down, and the doctor spread a cold jelly over her stomach. She kept a close eye on the men as they walked out. "I bet you and your husband are excited." The doctor's comment caught her attention. Y/n felt a pain in her heart just thinking about Tomura.

Y/n paused. "Sure, we are." The doctor stopped moving for a moment, her expression dulled. Her smile returned, and she continued to rub the jelly as if nothing happened.

"Do you have names picked out?" she asked.

"Sort of. I have names in mind, but I'm not sure yet." Y/n's face felt warmer just thinking about the names she picked.

"It helps to see the baby's gender first, right?" The doctor smiled kindly at her. Y/n nodded in response.

The doctor flipped off the lights and pulled out a probe that was attached to the machine by a long, grey cord. She delicately placed the probe on y/n's stomach and moved it around in slow, fluid motions. Her eyes were glued to the monitor, y/n nervously took a look.

"And there we have it!" the doctor announced.

Y/n looked at the screen. She furrowed her brows and cocked her head to the side. There was a grey blob on the screen. Is that the baby? Her lip quivered, and her face began to burn.

She noticed the doctor looking in her direction. "Seeing this for the first time is really emotional, isn't it?"

"I don't know what I'm looking at." Hot shame came over her. What kind of mother can't even recognize her own baby?

The doctor pointed. "I'll help you out." She drew a little circle on the screen. Y/n intently stared at the area she circled.

"Well, would you look at that." Her tone shifted, and y/n couldn't read what it meant. The sudden change made y/n's heart race.

"But you see, here is a head." Her finger ran down a bit. "And there's the rest of your little one's body."

Y/n squinted her eyes, desperately trying to see what the doctor was pointing out. After staring at the blob for much longer than y/n had hoped, she was starting to see something that might resemble a tiny human.

She leaned forward and paused. "It's not set in stone yet, but I do believe you have a little girl on your hands." The doctor's hand moved to another part of the screen. She pointed. "And if you look right here, you should see another head."

Y/n covered her mouth with her hands. "Two?" she squeaked.

"Yep, two," the doctor replied. Y/n could tell by the tone in her voice that she was both excited and smiling. "Baby girl is covering a lot of baby two's body. It looks like a boy. Like i said, not everything is set in stone just yet on that gender reveal."

Y/n couldn't comprehend the doctor's happy tone. Right now, y/n couldn't disagree more with her. Seeing the babies on the screen made everything too real for her. The realization that she was going to one day bring in two lives into the world sunk in. That feeling of loneliness and helplessness amplified.

How was she going to buy them what they need? The bar couldn't possibly support two babies. Would she be reduced to stealing the supplies to take care of them? What happens if she makes a mistake and gets caught? Where would her babies go if that happens?

Her hands were trembling, and her mind was bombarding her with questions about how she could possibly take care of two children on her own. Trying to find The League with one baby was already going to be a challenge, two would make it almost impossible. In the background, y/n could hear the doctor talk about how exciting the news is.

Oblivious to y/n's panicking, the doctor turned to her. "What were those names you had in mind?"

Y/n opened her mouth, but she couldn't force the answer out. She was still in shock. The doctor's fingers lightly rubbed the back of y/n's hand in a comforting manner. Finally, y/n managed to utter a reply. "Tomoru for a boy. Tomoko for a girl."

"I see a pattern." Y/n's face heated up. "Those are both beautiful names if you decide to stick with them. I love twins with matching names, its very cute. For now, how about we set up another appointment? They appear to be five months in, so far, there's still plenty of time to do check-up and preparation."

Y/n cleaned up, paid, and left promptly. The nurse gave her a copy of her ultrasound as a gift.

On the taxi ride back to Ogura City, y/n stared at the little picture. Now she couldn't unsee the two little heads pointed out to her.

She mentally berated herself for the overwhelming grief she felt. Usually, women are glowing when they find out they are pregnant. Seeing their babies for the first time is one of the best moments of their lives. Y/n couldn't bring herself to feel that way. She's already fallen in love with them, that was unmistakable. However, her children were going to be a burden if she doesn't find her family soon.

The taxi stopped in front of the bar. She's never shown up so early before. Y/n wondered if Mr. Goda was going to be awake.

Y/n lied about the money she gave the taximan to save a bit of cash before closing the door behind her and watching the car drive off into the distance.

The door handle turned. It was still unlocked. Slowly, y/n opened the door and peeked inside. The lights were on. Y/n walked into the bar and stood in the center, unsure what to do next.

Y/n called Mr. Goda and announced her arrival. The much older man made his way down the creaky set of stairs. "Got that picture?" he asked. Y/n nodded as she waved it in her hand. "Good, you're rehired. Now, let's see that little bean."

"Well, you're wrong about one thing." Y/n placed the ultrasound picture on the bar.

She watched as he scanned it. "Oh, I'm sorry. Beans." Y/n furrowed her brows and inquired how he managed to see them so fast. "I have children and grandchildren. These pictures aren't anything new to me."

Y/n folded her arms on the bar and rested her head. Mr. Goda spoke up. "Now that we got that doctor's appointment done, let's talk about what comes next. You're going to be needing to enough for two. You seem like a smart and resourceful girl, I'm sure we can figure something out."
