Chapter 24
Once she was in her room, Juliet dialled Gavin's number. She opened an empty suitcase and stuffed in the most important necessities for a getaway while waiting for him to pick up. When he did not answer, her started racing even faster because he was the only person who could help her get away with murder. She had to leave town as soon as possible. She redialled his number and thankfully he picked up.
"Hi Juliet," he said.
"I did it," Juliet confessed, rubbing her forehead. "I killed them."
"I assume you called me to ask for help," he said in a very calm voice. "Am I right?"
"Yeah," Juliet said, hoping he wouldn't say no to her. She did not want to go to prison even though it was what she deserved. She had committed an unforgivable sin.
"Okay," he said. "I'll send you an address. You need to be there in less than an hour."
Juliet hang up and zipped her suitcase, after removing extra clothes that were making it too full. She opened the door, looked both sides of the well lit hallway and walked out, carrying a small bag and suitcase. Not wanting to draw attention to herself, she decided to walk in a normal pace. Luckily, she didn't meet anyone.
She waited for half an hour before a taxi dropped off a tall dark man who lived in the building. As the man strode in, Juliet got into the taxi. She reached Gavin's place in seven minutes. It was a residential building that looked like any other suburban house. How was it possible that a fugitive lived in plain sight? The town's security was not good enough which was to her advantage. She knocked and a girl wearing layers of make up and a hot red mini dress with silver heels opened the door.
"I think I got the wrong address," Juliet said, opening her small bag to get her phone.
"Juliet Fetterman?" The girl said and Juliet nodded. "Come on in."
Gavin was typing away in his computer when the girls walked in to the study.
"You're in luck," he said, standing up. "I believe you've meet Kay Fields, a good friend of mine. She is supposed to travel in a plane today, her seat is next to the one of a rich businessman."
"Okay," Juliet said, wondering why Gavin was telling her that. All she wanted was to leave town not to listen to what Kay was planning to do.
"Please take a seat," he pointed to a chair on the other side of the table. Juliet put her small bag on the floor and sat on the chair. She had left the suitcase in the living room.
"He is single and Kay is supposed to charm him so that he'll later fall for her, hopefully." He continued. "The good thing is you and Kay look very much alike. All we need to do is put more make up on you and have you wear her amazing clothes. That t-shirt of yours is hideous."
"What are you saying?" Juliet asked. She didn't understand anything. Why did her looks matter at this point?
"You're taking Kay's ticket and role," he said in matter-of-fact tone. He stood up and checked her out from head to toe. He shook his head.
Juliet looked at him like he'd grown horns. "There's no way I'll be able to do that. It's not right. How sure are you that he'll like me anyway?"
"I've studied him and I know exactly what he wants," hands in pockets, he walked around the room.
"It's not right," Juliet said.
"And killing two innocent teens is?" He asked, going back to his seat. "Do you want to spend the most important years of your life in jail? I don't think the judge will doubt that you did it. You could even get a place on death row. Is that what you want?"
Juliet reconsidered. She would work something out when She was already out of town. Gavin would never find her. "Okay, I'll go."
"I thought you'd say that," he grinned. "Kay is going to tell everything you need to do. Do whatever she says or you'll fail."
"Why are you helping me?" Juliet asked. They were not even friends and she'd insulted him. Only dangerous people will appear to take that lightly. Could she trust him? What if he was setting her up and the grand finale would be finding the police waiting for her at the airport? She knew he wasn't to be trusted but she had no other option.
"Are you here to ask questions?" He asked while typing furiously on his desktop computer's keyboard. "Get ready to take her to the airport, Kay. And Juliet, you have to do what you're told. You know I can hand you over to the police if I want."
"Is that a threat, Gavin?"
"Depends," he shrugged. "What do you think?"

When they had left, Gavin smiled to himself. His plan was perfect. Now that filthy Juliet and businesses would never poison the town again. If there was something he hated, it was weak willed and filthy people. He had hoped Juliet would pass the test and resist temptation but no, she was like any other girl, making important decisions based on feelings and not bothering to use the mind to think logically. How annoying! It had been easy with Kay since she'd never been a goody two shoes but with righteous Juliet, things hard been hard but he'd managed to convince her to commit a deadly sin. Kana was the one supposed to die in the plane crash but it was better for Juliet to go first. A good person who kills is worse than a bad one who does because with the bad one, it is expected. Besides, Kay had murdered an old pimp no one cared about so the hunt for her wasn't serious unlike Juliet who had killed two teenagers.
He sighed, shaking his head. He now had to distract himself while waiting for the news of the impending crash. People did not know it but he controlled many of them. He gulped his cold beer and plugged on his head phones to play his favorite video game.
