53. Future Plans
"They only come to your room because they feel bad for you. They'd much rather be throwing parties at Namjoon's place. With me."
YeongMi walked carelessly down the hallways as Bora trailed beside her, clucking out anything that had the potential to get under YeongMi's skin. She reminded YeongMi of a hen with a mean streak, the kind that would run at anyone who got within a yard of them.
"Well, by all means tell them that, I'm sure they'll be very interested to party with you. I hear you're very fun."
Bora was annoyed that YeongMi wasn't annoyed, but she continued her best efforts.
"You're only holding them back, you selfish bitch."
YeongMi laughed, shaking her head. "You overestimate my power. I'm flattered, really."
Bora was getting more worked up than YeongMi, which only amused her further.
"You don't think that they like you for anything more than what you give to them, do you? I mean please, it's pathetic."
Actually, YeongMi was very familiar with the concept of being used. She spent the better half of her life being used. That's precisely why she knew that the boys weren't using her. After all, they had no idea what she could offer them.
And if they kept her around for her sarcastic quips and off hand insults, then she was fine with that. After all, people could say the same about them.
YeongMi halted, turning to look at Bora with a bored look on her face. "No Bora, you're pathetic. I'm sorry that they're smart enough to not want to be around you and your toxic presence, but stop taking it out on me. You're just hurting your pride and making yourself look even more like a pathetic little baby. Now fuck off."
This time, Bora didn't run after her, and YeongMi was able to make it through the rest of the morning without Bora's sad excuse for insults assaulting her ears.
She shouldn't have felt relieved just yet though, because at lunch, which would have been great as she didn't have a lunch punishment today, she was promptly being ganged up on by the younger boys.
"Mimi, you have to stop getting in so much trouble," Jimin was giving her puppy dog eyes, but she couldn't take him seriously considering that just yesterday he had shared a lunch punishment with her.
He was hardly one to talk about not getting in trouble.
"MiMi, please, you've already pushed the rules too much." YeongMi knew that, as it was quite obvious considering that just a week into her year, she was infamous to all of the students and staff. She had found it a personal accomplishment, but now Taehyung's worried face was turning her gut.
"You could get expelled, and then we won't see you anymore!" Jungkook looked so alarmed at that, making YeongMi feel panic spike for a moment just looking at him.
YeongMi waved him off softly, an idea already forming in her head. "I can buy a place nearby and visit you. Actually, I could do that now and give up on school!"
YeongMi hadn't even noticed that Jin had approached them until he interrupted her fast growing daydream for the future.
"You don't want to live off your parents money for the rest of your life, do you?"
YeongMi scowled; she hadn't thought about it like that before.
"Your best bet to successfully cut yourself off from them would be getting a good job, so you need an education. Unless you want to try your hand at training for an entertainment company."
YeongMi winced. The idea of more cameras mixed with the intense media lifestyle of idols was too similar to her childhood. She'd rather not live through that as extensively again.
"Shit, I guess you're right. And I was already thinking of how to organize my apartment. Too bad."
Jin smiled at her, probably laughing at the crushed tone to her voice.
"I guess you're just stuck with me then."
For the first time in her life, YeongMi found herself getting serious about her schooling.
