10. Fishing For Clues
YeongMi stared at Yoongi in disbelief, while the boy just closed his eyes carelessly.
She knew some people teased him for being lazy, but from what she had learned, he stayed up all night most days, making music, so it was understandable for him to be so exhausted all the time.
As for his bad attitude, well, YeongMi couldn't judge that.
She knew all about the layers of personalities.
What she didn't know about was this Bora.
Why had Namjoon and Bora broken up? Whose idea was it?
And what happened to make Bora such a big deal, besides dating Namjoon?
YeongMi really, really didn't want to think of it, but there was a bitter heat spreading in her stomach, and she immediately disliked this Bora person.
She would never, ever admit it, but it just might have been jealousy that she was feeling.
But that wasn't possible, it was crazy, no way could it be true.
After all, why would she be jealous Bora, she didn't even know them.
It's not like she'd be jealous of Bora simply because they had dated Namjoon.
That was crazy.
Absolutely, utterly crazy.
And absolutely, irritatingly true.
"Yeah, she and Namjoon dated for a few months before she moved away. And now she's back. Who knows what will happen."
YeongMi looked at Yoongi curiously as he simply slouched into the table, his eyes lazily opening and closing.
"You don't seem very concerned."
"She never liked me anyways, so it doesn't matter to me. She won't bug me any more than everyone else."
Wow, how kind.
"But why does it matter to everyone else then?"
"It's not your business, or theirs either. Whatever happened between Namjoon and Bora should stay between them. I don't want to know."
But YeongMi wanted to know, she really wanted to know.
But Yoongi was going to be no help, so YeongMi set off to find someone who would talk.
Taehyung was busy with Jungkook, nuzzling his head into the bunny boy's temple whilst cooing to him, much to Jungkook's flustered pleasure.
Huh, that's new.
Jimin was sitting next to Yoongi now, whispering to him and putting his arm over the older boy, obviously taking advantage of the fact that Yoongi was too tired to push him away.
Namjoon had disappeared at the mention of Bora.
Hoseok it was then. She took a moment to watch him as he danced to his ringtone, before interrupting.
"Hoseok, I wanted to ask you - "
"Bora used to hang out with us a lot. Kind of like you."
And now YeongMi was jealous, more than just from Namjoon's interest in Bora, but in all of the boys interest in her.
YeongMi was a very proud person, and she hated to think that someone else had been in her place. She wanted to think she was special, she desperately wanted to believe that she was one of a kind to the boys.
She wanted to be the only one that the boys had made an exception for, she wanted to be the only outsider who had been accepted into the group.
Though Hyjoon was another story. She was friends with Jungkook, so it made sense for the boys to welcome her.
But YeongMi hadn't known any of them, not really. And she still found herself stuck with them. She loved it though, but Bora was soiling her satisfaction at getting into the boys friend group.
And now, hearing that this Bora girl had been in her place first, that she wasn't the only one who had made it into the group, it made her feel phony and secondhand.
She was most definitely not secondhand. Never in her life had she been second to anyone, not since she left her parents.
"Yeah, and then she was spending nights with Namjoon, inviting him to stay over with her, and next thing you know they're the hot new item and she's trying to get Namjoon to be the it couple with her. People would follow them around, and Namjoon hated it - you know he gets shy - but Bora just adored it."
YeongMi held onto his words, staring, begging for more.
She wanted to know everything, absolutely everything about this Bora, who she was, what she did.
"Well, let's just say the other guys didn't like all the attention. You know how exclusive they are."
"But not you?"
Hoseok grinned at her, a sun among the masses of people.
"I love people, the others, not so much. It got worse when she drew all this attention. She was so dramatic too. Add to the fact that Jungkook seemed to like her before she dated Namjoon, well, it was a mess."
YeongMi's head was spinning. Hoseok had gone back to dancing, and YeongMi took that as her cue to leave.
The bell rang, and YeongMi spent the rest of the day wondering about Bora.
She couldn't get the image of Bora and Namjoon out of her head, and it made her sick.
She hated that Bora had been with Namjoon, and she hated that she hated the idea, she hated that she cared so much.
Caring was dangerous, caring was bad, caring was a mistake. Caring led to disappointment. Caring led to pain and broken promises, forgotten dreams and two faced friends.
And yet, she still found herself outside of Namjoon's studio room that night, her hand raised to knock.
She could go in and talk to him. But she had no idea what would happen.
Well, she had an idea, and it wasn't good. It was glorious, but bad. Horribly bad. A total mistake.
She was caring again.
Wouldn't she ever learn? Nothing turned out well for her, so why did she continue to make this mistake? She always said, 'this time is the last time', but it never was. She kept doing the same damn thing over and over again.
Not this time.
Without a word YeongMi retreated to her room and didn't leave it, even when the sun rose and classes began. She ignored the knocks on her door, hiding in her bed to sulk and mope.
She had to get control of this, she had to do damage control before it was too late.
She couldn't care. Not again.
She couldn't bear to lose anymore than she already had, and she always ended up getting hurt when she cared. She had to stop caring. She didn't want to get hurt yet again.
She couldn't go through that again. No, she wouldn't do that again.
This was the last time, for real this time.
She had to stop caring about these boys.
