Chapter 47:

When we got back to my parent's house, everyone was in full panic mode.

"She's never going to stop. Why won't she just leave us alone?" Mom was screaming at anyone who would listen.

"We will find her, Mrs. Miller." Cameron hugged my mom to comfort her.

"Damnit, Cameron, I'm practically your mother-in-law.  Will you please just start calling me Riley?" My mom screamed out of left field and hit him on the shoulder angrily.

Cameron looked confused at my Dad as he let my mom go.

"You can still call me Mr. Miller or Sir." My Dad raised his eyebrow at him.

"Wasn't even going to ask, Sir," Cameron replied seriously.

"Jax!"  My mom screamed up the stairs to the kid bellowing loudly at his video games.  He was so locked into his own little world that he had no clue that the sky was falling down around him.

He swore and stomped out of his room. He came down the stairs with his headset and controller still attached to his body.

"What, Mom?" He was really good at that annoyed teenager vibe.

"Pack your things for a few days. Your Uncle Aiden is on his way over to pick you up."  She said forcefully.

"I'm not staying with Uncle Aiden. I don't want to." He whined at her.

"Jackson Miller, you are not going to argue with me today. Pack your things and be ready in ten minutes or I will come up there and drag you down the stairs myself." Mom never yelled at Jax that way. His face was red with embarrassment as we all stared up at his reaction.

Jax stomped back to his room, mumbling under his breath. I didn't blame him for being frustrated with her.  It wasn't like she came out and told him there was a real concern over our family's safety. Mom had spent her whole life trying to keep the two of us happy and oblivious to the world around us.  She did it out of love, but her decisions were driven by fear.  It was time for her to stop hiding. She needed to break our family cycle of trauma by telling the truth.

"Aren't you going to tell him what is going on?" I asked her.

"Your little brother doesn't need to know,"  Mom responded quickly without a second thought. She brushed me off. It took all my self-control to keep my emotions in check after her quick dismissal. I had to choose my words carefully, even though tiptoeing around her was the last thing I felt like doing.

"Mom, this is why we are all here in the first place.  You and Dad kept massive secrets from us for a long time.  I would have been more cautious if I knew about her." I argued my position as calmly as I could to my already fragile mother.

"Riley, she has a point.  We don't need to tell him the full details of what happened, but if we want him to be safe, he will have to know he could be in danger too." My dad agreed with me, which surprised me.

Dad had always stood up for Mom even when she was wrong.  After finding out about their past, his actions around her made a lot more sense.  He was afraid to lose her because he felt like he had a lot to make up for.  I understood him better than anyone else because I felt the same way about the things I did when my moods shifted.  I would spend my whole life trying to right the wrongs I had done and it still would never be enough.

My mom gave Cameron a pleading look. She was trying to get someone in the room on her side.  He shrugged, giving her a non-verbal cue that he agreed with us.

Mom was overruled.

We were all in the living room when Jax came back downstairs.  My parents brought him into the room to sit down with us and talked about what happened.  He sat next to me on the couch and I grabbed him to pull him closer.  He was more emotional than anyone ever gave him credit for and would need my support to get through this. He tried to push me off of him, but I just wrapped my arms around him tighter.  He wasn't going to get away.

My little brother had spent the last few weeks supporting me as I found my way back to reality.  It was now time to return the favor and help him get through this nightmare.

My mom and dad began explaining the situation. They spared him the gruesome details of what happened to my mom, which I was thankful for.  After watching the video, the thought of those images made my skin crawl.  Seeing them once was enough for a lifetime. I didn't want to replay them in my head again.

My little brother sunk back into me while they continued their story. The longer they went, the further down he slid until he was a little ball in my arms. I hugged him as he started to fall apart. Jax thought my parents walked on water, finding out how flawed they were shattered his sheltered world.

Jax stopped fighting against me and accepted that he actually needed me right now. The little dude didn't say much. He just kept looking over at me nervously. He waited for my mom to finish telling him what was going on before he spoke up.

"Can Jessa go with me to Uncle Aiden's too?" He asked as he clung to me like a scared little boy.

"No, Jax, your sister is coming home with me. It will be better for her to stay with me right now." Cameron answered back without even asking me what I wanted to do.  Cameron wore a serious expression. He wasn't going to let anyone try to convince him otherwise.

Jax pushed away from me and stood up over Cameron with a fierce warning glare.

"You have to keep her safe. You can't let her hurt Jessa." He commanded with watery eyes.

Cameron nodded at Jax and the little dude seemed to accept it.  He was really starting to come around on him.  I think my whole family actually liked Cam more than me.

Well, except my dad, he still liked me more.

With a lot of hugs, kisses, and promises to call to check in every hour, Cameron and I left for his house.  It was hard to admit to my family, but I felt better knowing he was the one by my side.  He was strong and I knew he would do everything he could to protect me from her.  She wasn't going to be able to get to me while he was around.

When we pulled up to Cameron's house, I was surprised to see Ron was in the driveway waiting for us. He had a bag slung over his back like he had planned on staying for the night.

We got out of my car and walked over to join him.  As soon as I got closer, he stepped up and wrapped me in a huge, comforting hug around my neck.  It was unexpected, but it was very welcome right now.

"You ready for our slumber party, Jess?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows at me when he let me go.

"What's going on?" My eyes met Cameron's, looking for reassurance.  Was the Jenna threat so terrible that Cameron alone wasn't going to be enough to protect me?

Cameron wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me back into him when he sensed my unease.  He kissed my temple before nuzzling into the crook of my neck. My body sunk back into him, immediately relieved to have him touching me again.

"I asked Ron to stay here tonight.  I have a shift early in the morning and it's not a good idea for you to be by yourself until Jenna is locked up. We have worked our schedules out so you will have at least one of us with you at all times until she is caught." He explained.

"Oh. Yeah, makes sense." I said, frowning a little bit.

Cameron was trying to look out for me, but it felt a little suffocating.  After being in a treatment center with twenty-four-hour surveillance, I hated the idea of having someone guarding me at all times.  It was one thing to have Cameron hovering over me protectively, but now I had a second set of eyes constantly following me. I wasn't going to be able to even pick a wedgie in private.

"Aw, come on, Jess. Don't make that sweet, little pouty face. How about I make you a deal?" Ron smirked.

"What's the deal?" I asked even though I should know better than that by now. With Ron, you never knew what was going to come out of his mouth.

"You give me that pretty smile of yours at least one time today and I'll let you sleep naked between Nash and me when we go to bed tonight. Two smiles and I'll even let you cuddle me." He smirked.

"Still my girlfriend," Cameron warned.

"Don't be jealous, Nash, you sexy beast. You're still my one and only."  He gave him an exaggerated wink and blew a kiss at him.

"You're going to make me regret asking you for help." Cameron relaxed and let up a bit when he realized Ron was clearly joking with him.

"Yeah, Probably."  Ron walked away and led us up to the front door.

This was going to be the longest night ever.
