Chapter Two: Escaping

I watched the man make eye contact with me. I took note that his eyes were an incredible emerald green that I could make out, even from here. The green clothing he wore only brought out his eyes even more than usual.
A rather harsh gust of wind blew the hood off of the thief and I saw his blonde hair stick out brightly against the pitch black sky. He gave me a slight nod, and turned his back from us.
Was he gonna jump?
No way he'd survive a jump from that high.
I pointed my knights to ride around to the entrance of the castle. It was heavily guarded. I made sure of it. They left and I dismounted Topaz and began scaling the wall.
My more bulky build made it difficult for me to climb, but I eventually made it to the top and gazed out into the distance.
I caught sight of a disappearing horse into the forest. Not one of the knights horses, but another. Perhaps the blonde creeper man had created a better plan than I had expected of him.
I walked on top of the wall, trying to figure out what to do. He stole something. Whatever it was, it had to be valuable. Oh god, my father was gonna kill me for letting him escape.
I went back down the wall, knowing I had to inform my father of this at once. I mounted Topaz and took him back to the stables before making my way to the throne room where my father resided until I made the all clear for the kingdom.
I walked forward, slightly nodding to the guards as they bowed to me. Being the Prince and first in command of King Ryan's army made me one of the most respected people in the kingdom. The guards closed the door behind me and I continued to my father's throne.
Ryan eyed me proudly as I took off my diamond helmet and bowed before him. I heard him chuckle slightly and pat my auburn curls sweetly. I looked up at him to see him smiling down at me.
"My son, is it all clear?" He asked me. I sighed and shook my head.
"I scanned the perimeter and found no monsters. But an intruder made their way in, and I believe he stole something for the kingdom. Something valuable," I told him.
My fathers eyes turned dark and I knew he was planning something sinister. He always made that look when he was planning something that would be considered crazy.
"Did the intruder have dark hair?" My father asked me.
"No, it was light... Blond, actually," I told him.
"Hmm... Wearing all green?" He asked again.
"Yeah. How did you know?" I asked him.
"It's the deviled son of Geoff. The one he's been teaching how to steal. I always knew that little thief would make it here," Ryan said. I eyed him for a moment.
Geoff was a familiar name for some reason. I couldn't quite pin where I'd heard it from, but I had heard it before. Geoff...
It came to me in a wave as I remembered when my father used to tell me the history of the kingdom.
Geoff was the first king of Achievement Kingdom. He was overthrown by Ryan a little while after that and Geoff went off to god knows where. I didn't really think about it until now.
"Geoff was the first king of Achievement Kingdom. Maybe he's trying to get his revenge?" I asked.
"No, he would do it himself if that were the case. He wouldn't send that idiotic son of his out to do his dirty work," Ryan told me. His eyes flashed for a moment and I saw the sudden fatherly glint in them.
"Why don't you head off to bed. You have to make your daily rounds in the morning, correct?" Ryan asked me.
"Yes, father," I answered him.
He nodded and kissed my mop of red curls before walking off to his sleeping area. I sighed and walked out of the throne room and up to my room.
A servant offered me some food but I declined it and told them to tell the rest of the guards and servants to not bother me for the rest of the night. They were quick to understand and they scurried off with no further conversation.
I undid my bright blue cape from my neck and hung it up on the headboard to my bed. I pulled off my yellow pants and threw them aside. I kicked off my shoes and pulled off the bear hoodie that I always wore. I grabbed some comfortable pants and pulled them on over my pale legs and crawled into bed.
I closed my eyes, thinking about what I was gonna do about the creeper man.

"Thanks, Ray. I really owe you this time," I told him as we dismounted Rose.
"No kidding," Ray rolled his eyes.
I forgot about my ankle until I put weight on it. I crumbled down like that and Ray hauled me up and helped me into the small cabin that my father and I shared.
The moment my father saw me limping he sat up, only to be stopped by a bout of coughing. I put my hands up and stumbled over to him. I sat down on the edge of his bed and ran a hand over his forehead.
"I have the medicine, father. You'll get better soon," I cooed soothingly to him.
"But... Your ankle," He protested.
"It's alright. I had a little fall but I'm alright. Ray... You don't mind, do you?" I asked him.
Ray smiled and stepped forward. He sat in front of me and pulled off my boot and began examining my ankle. It began to swell and it was purple and red. Ray ran his finger across it delicately before squeezing certain places.
"It's not broken. Probably just severely sprained. I'll wrap it up and you have to ice it and keep weight off of it, okay?" Ray asked. I nodded and he ran out to Rose to grab the bandages in his saddlebag.
Ray was skilled when it came to medical stuff. In fact, that was part of the reason we became such good friends. I was always getting into trouble and he had been right there to heal me.
I began rummaging through the backpack of medicine and I pulled out vials of expensive looking liquid. I eyed it and tried to figure out what it was.
I had heard of splash potions and regular potions but I hadn't ever gotten the chance to actually make any. I knew a couple recipes but I could never get my hands on the ingredients for them. I figured that was what was in all these vials. Potions.
Ray returned and began wrapping my ankle while I looked through the medicine. I would show him a couple and he'd gasp and stop taking care of my ankle to examine the vial of bright liquid.
Once Ray was finished with my ankle, he looked through the vials and picked a couple out.
"Give these to your father. Have him take it in small doses. He should slowly start getting better with them," Ray told me. I nodded and he left the cabin.
I gave my father the vials and told him to take some sips. He listened and licked his lips at the sweet flavor of the medicine. I smiled and got up, careful not to put weight on my ankle, and lit the fireplace in the corner.
"You hungry?" I asked him.
"I could eat, but if you're only making it for me than I'll be fine," My father responded. I shrugged and pulled two pork chops from a chest and began cooking them.
I finished cooking them and handed the plate to my father. He smiled and took it gratefully while he began to eat.
I sat in my own bed, placing a bag of ice on my ankle, and began to eat, thinking about the days events. My father was gonna be okay, but Michael would be out looking for me. I had to stay away from town for a little while. My father or Ray would have to make the daily rounds until I was clear to head back.
I thought about Michael, and the fury in his eyes. All he wants to do is protect his kingdom. It's not his fault he acts the way he does.
I leaned back on the bed and placed my plate on the floor. I listened to my fathers gentle snores, telling me he was asleep. I sighed and closed my eyes, willing myself to fall asleep.
