Chapter Fourteen: Home

I felt the Knights pick me up and shove me forward, ordering me to walk. I reluctantly did, despite the pain in my ankle. I grunted with every step I took, to which I got jabbed a few times in the back with an arrow. I heard Gavin try to fight against the Knights, but obviously he wasn't having a great time with that. He hadn't said a word for a while, which made me wonder what had happened to him.
Eventually, I was thrown into a cell along with Gavin. They undid our bonds and took a gag off of Gavin's mouth. Gavin glared at them and immediately started saying strings of curse words, some I didn't even recognize. To my surprise, though, the Knights did and took obvious offense to it.
Once they left, Gavin leaned back and sighed. I did as well, trying to find something, anything, to wrap my ankle in. Gavin looked over at me and took the hint as he got up and started sifting about the tiny cell.
We eventually resorted to ripping off a piece of clothing and wrapping it around my ankle. I let out a hiss when Gavin began wrapping it around my ankle, due to the swelling that already began to show.
Once that was done, Gavin returned to me and leaned his head on my shoulder. I leaned my head against his and took a deep breath.
We were back to square one.

"Wake up. The King and Queen would like to see you," I heard Gavin say.
I blinked open my eyes and looked at Gavin, only to see he was just waking up as well. What the fuck?
"Today would be nice," The guard standing in front of us said with the same accent as Gavin.
I tried to hide my shock but it slowly made its way onto my face. I looked at Gavin but all that showed on his face was determination and assurance.
Gavin pulled me up and wrapped his arm around me, aiding me when I walked. The guards eventually tore us apart and put bonds on us again, much to my disappointment. I struggled to walk but the pain was quickly becoming to much for me.
When we finally made it to the throne room, I felt about ready to pass out. Sweat was dripping down my face and my ankle was visibly throbbing. Gavin would throw glances back at me, and frown with a helpless look at my condition.
The guards ordered us down on our knees. Gavin went down gracefully, whilst I collapsed in relief. The throbbing was still present but I felt it slowing down.
I looked up at the King and Queen, trying to place what Kingdom they were from. They wore elegant outfits.
The Queen had a long green dress with a silk golden belt. Her tiara sat proudly on top of her head, the emeralds catching every batch of light. Her cape fell delicately on her shoulders and down her back.
The King wore something similar to what my father would wear. A long shirt with a golden belt. Dark pants tucked into tall boots and a long cape. His golden crown was adorned with small emeralds that sparkled like green lights in the sunlight.
Once I stopped evaluating what they were wearing, I looked up to their faces.
And to my surprise, they were staring at Gavin.
Eventually, they tore their gaze off of him and gazed at both of us.
"What were you doing on our territory," The Queen asked using a gentle, yet slightly accusing tone.
"We were just passing through," Gavin answered before I could.
"Where are you going?" The King asked curiously.
Gavin gave me a look to which I slightly shook my head. I knew all the tricks to this considering I had been apart of many. We tell them where we were going and they stalk is and eventually kill us.
"It really doesn't matter. I'm sure we don't even know," Gavin answered, his voice wavering slightly.
"What's your name?" The Queen said, cutting the King off.
"Gavin. Why?" He asked.
The Queen and King shared a look which instantly made me suspicious. They were hiding something. Something big.
"Stand up and come here," The Queen ordered Gavin.
I immediately gave him a look that told him not to. This was a trap. I knew it.
"Now," The Queen ordered, her voice instantly becoming deadly.
Gavin slowly stood up and approached her shakily. I prepared myself for him to be killed. I felt my heart break in my chest as I thought of his blood splattering onto me.
I saw the Queen's hands go onto his face and stare deeply into his eyes. I squeezed my eyes shut, silently praying for his quick and painless death.
"It's him. You're alive!" I heard the Queen exclaim.
I blinked my eyes open in confusion, looking up and seeing Gavin getting squeezed by the Queen. His face reflected my look of confusion for a moment before realization washed over him and he hugged the Queen back.
"Mum." Gavin whispered.
