Chapter Eleven: Am I Ready?

I pulled away from Michael and gazed into his eyes nervously.
Why was I nervous?
He obviously liked it. He kissed me back. He was still holding me in his arms. But the nerves were still present. And they weren't going away.
Michael let his arms drop from my waist. I lowered my arms to my sides and looked down for a moment.
"I'm sorry," I whispered quietly. I felt as though I couldn't lift my gaze to meet Michael's.
I felt Michael's finger gently push my chin up until I was forced to gaze into his bright chocolate amber eyes.
"Why are you sorry?" Michael asked me. He brought our lips back together in another long and pleasant kiss.
When we pulled away for good this time, Michael took a deep breath and gave me a reassuring smile.
He stepped away from me and walked back over to the dying embers from the fire. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes for a moment, processing what just happened.
When I opened them again, Michael was standing in front of me, smirking. I resisted the urge to step forward and kiss him again, so I jumped back in fake surprise to prevent myself from doing so.
"Go get some sleep," Michael said. All emotion from when we kissed was gone and he was back to his orderly self.
"N-no. You haven't slept in over a day. I'll stand guard," I offered. What I said was true, and he looked incredibly tired.
He didn't object either, which I was grateful for. He just walked back to the fire embers and curled up near it, falling sleep instantly.
I smiled and internally cooed at his adorableness. I turned away before I made any noises and pulled my bow from my shoulder. I twiddled the bowstring a bit before realizing it was loose and tightening it.
I groaned, already feeling bored. I made a mental note to not offer to stand guard again.
The night went on. And on went my boredom. I sharpened all my knives, fixed my bow, groomed Boomerang, and a number of other small tasks and the night wasn't even half over.
I rolled over from my star gazing so I was on my stomach and stared at Michael again. He was in a different position from the last time I checked on him.
I sighed and stood up, dusting myself off. I waddled over to Michael and spotted his sword tucked under his arm. I smirked evilly and lifted his arm as gently as I could and slid the sword out from his grasp.
I picked it up, instantly realizing how heavy it was. I hauled it up and stepped away from Michael. Once I was in an open area, I swung it and made myself fall over from the weight of the sword.
How the hell does he fight with this thing?
I picked myself up and tried again. This time I stayed on my feet but I still spun with the sword. I noticed Topaz and Boomerang staring at me like I was crazy.
I must look like an idiot to them.
"What are you looking at? You guys are horses," I told them, blushing when I realized I was talking to horses.
"So, is that what you've resorted to? Talking to horses?" I heard a voice ask me. I spun around, seeing Michael sitting up and smirking at me.
"Well, it gets pretty boring," I muttered.
"I know. But I've never had to resort to talking to horses," Michael chuckled, standing up.
"How long have you been up?" I asked him.
"Long enough to see you fall on your ass from swinging my sword," Michael giggled at my embarrassed look and pointed to his sword. I held it out for him to take, but he simply shook his head.
"I'm gonna teach you how to not fall when you're fighting with a sword," Michael smirked, wrapping his arms around my own.
He put his hands over my own and clasped them together with his sword. He pushed my arms back and swung quickly. The sword made a whistling noise which shocked me for a moment.
I blushed as I realized how close he was to me. His chest pressed against my back and his arms wrapped around mine. My heart rate picked up and I felt a disturbance in my pants.
I let go of the sword and turned to Michael. I pressed my lips against his, much to his surprise and pushed him back. I continued pushing him back until he hit a tree. By now, Michael understood what was going on, and he pressed his lips back against mine hungrily.
When we pulled back, I stared into his eyes for a moment. I saw all the same emotions I was feeling in his eyes in that moment. Want, need, lust, love.
I had never been romantically involved with anyone. Hell, I hadn't kissed anyone until Michael came along. I fell head over heels for him, but there was still one question lingering in my mind.
Am I ready?
