Chapter 13

December 8

The morning started off pretty eventful when Josh woke up and decided he wanted to have sex one last time as an engaged couple. Not long after we had finished, I began to have a few contractions, but I wasn't too worried about it.

Our ceremony was going to be held at noon here in the backyard. As soon as it was over, Josh and I would be going to the courthouse so we could legally adopt the kids.

It was almost 11 as I finished getting ready. Trin and Evie were in the room with me as I slipped on my dress. Being 32 weeks pregnant with twins I decided to forgo a traditional wedding gown, knowing that I wouldn't be able to fit in one.

"You look beautiful Callie," Trin says

"Thank you. I hope Josh likes it,"

"If he doesn't I'll smack him for you," she says, making me laugh

I help Evie get into her flower girl dress and smile, "You're so beautiful princess,"

"So are you mommy,"

I hug her tightly, knowing that these were the last few moments of it just being her and I. By the end of the day we would both have a different last name.

Before I knew it it was time to start the wedding. I watched from around the corner as Evie carried her little basket of flowers down the aisle . I came out from around the corner and slowly started walking down the aisle to Josh. He had the biggest smile on his face, as I got closer to him I could see the tears trying not to fall.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the joining of Josh and Callie."

Josh and and I stand at the altar, facing each other. Both of us have the biggest smiles on our faces as we listen to the officiant speak.

"Josh, do you take Callie to be your lawful wife? Do you promise to love her, honor her, cherish her, and be faithful to her, forsaking all others, as long as you both shall live?"

"I do," Josh says, barely above a whisper.

"Callie, do you take Josh to be your lawful husband? Do you promise to love him, honor him, cherish him, and be faithful to him, forsaking all others, as long as you both shall live?"

I look at Josh with tears in my eyes, "I do."

"Can we have the rings.?" The officiant asks.

Jon hands the rings to the officiant, who hands my ring to Josh.

"These rings symbolize the eternal bond you are forming today. They represent your love, commitment, and the promises you have made to each other. Josh put the ring on Callie's finger and repeat after me"

Josh slides the ring on my finger and repeats the words the officiant had said "With this ring, I thee wed. This ring represents my love, my commitment, and my promise to be faithful to you always."

"Callie take Josh's ring and put it on his finger, and repeat after me," The officiant says.

I put the ring on his fingers and through tears repeat after him. "With this ring, I thee wed. This ring represents my love, my commitment, and my promise to be faithful to you always."

"Josh and Callie, you have demonstrated your love for one another by exchanging vows and rings. I now pronounce you husband and wife, Josh you may kiss your bride,"

Josh holds me in his arms as he kisses me for the first time as his wife. Our family cheers as we walk away holding hands. The kids following closely behind us .

"You look beautiful," he whispers

"Thank you baby,"

"Ready to go to the courthouse for the adoption?"

I nod, "let me go pee first. Then we can leave,"

The cramping had slowly worsened since this morning. It wasn't unbearable, but I was definitely beginning to question whether or not I was going into early labor.

Throughout the adoption court session my contractions continued to pick up a little bit. After about an hour in the court room, it was official. Josh was Evie's dad, and I was Noah and Eli's mom.

To celebrate everything that had happened today, we were meeting up with the family at Jon and Trin's house for dinner. Then the kids would be spending the night there with their cousins so Josh and I could have alone time.

As we entered the backyard, the family starts cheering. Josh kisses me again while the kids run off to play with their cousins. I waddle over to the table and sit down. Everything was starting to hurt.

"You okay Callie?" Jacob asks

"Yeah just another contraction,"

"You're having contractions?" Trin asks

"I have been on and off all day."

"Have you told Josh?" Tama asks

"No, I don't think it's real labor. I'm only 32 weeks. I still have about 5-6 weeks atleast,"

I tried my best to pretend like I wasn't having consistent contractions. At this point they were about 7-8 minutes apart. Not close enough to go to the hospital.

"You need to tell him," Joe says, noticing how uncomfortable I was

"I'm fine Joe, I promise,"

"Callie I've been through this multiple times with my wife. So have most of the others. We know you're in labor,"

I sigh, "they're not consistent enough to know if it's actually labor or not. That's why I haven't told him,"

"You know if they pick up you have to tell him. We love you but I'm not trying to watch you give birth in my back yard," Trin says

Once I ate dinner the contractions slowed down quite a bit. I went almost two hours without having one. It wasn't until Josh and I got into the car to leave that another one started

"You good babe?" He asks, noticing my sudden grip on his hand

"Contraction," was all I mumbled

"Can I do anything?"he asks

I shake my head, "it'll go away in a minute,"

By the time we had gotten home, I was starting to have another one. This one was more intense

"Are you sure you're okay? That's the second contraction you've had in 5 minutes,"

"I don't know, Josh. I've been having contractions all day but they haven't been consistent enough to go to the hospital,"

"We need to pack our hospital bags just in case," he says

"I'm sorry, I know this isn't how you wanted to spend our wedding night."

"As long as I'm with you momma, that's all I care about. I have the rest of our lives to bend you over the bed. Right now, I just want you to be taken care of,"

As we packed the hospital bags the contractions intensified. By the time we were done packing. My contractions were about 4 minutes apart and extremely painful.

"Let's go to the hospital and get you checked," he says, carrying the bags down to the car. As I  walked outside, I felt liquid trickling down my leg

"My water broke,"

"Shit let's go," he says panicked. On the way to the hospital, he called his brother and told him what was happening, thankfully they offered to keep the kids as long as we needed them to.

As soon as we arrive to the hospital, I am rushed up to labor and delivery. Several doctors and nurses are coming into the room to hook me and the babies up to monitors. When the nurse checked me I was already dilated to an 8. The girls would likely be here in the next few hours.

I had originally decided to do a natural birth since I had one with Evie. But I started to second guess myself as the pain and pressure set in. Less than thirty minutes later I was fully dilated and it was time to deliver the babies

Josh stood by my side and helped me stay calm as I pushed. At 9:36 was Norah Grace born, 8 minutes later at 9:44 Nevaeh Hope was born.

Thankfully even though they were only 32 weeks, the girls came out screaming and seemed healthy for the most part.

"How are you feeling babe?" Josh asks

"Happy, today our family became whole. In more ways than we thought.

He smiles, "Get some rest babe, you deserve it,"

"Lay with me?" I say sliding over so he could fit on the hospital bed next to me.

He lays down and wraps his arm around my stomach. I fall asleep for the first time in the comfort of my husband's arms
