Chapter 4 - Prince of Egypt
He was tall and despite the clothes he was wearing I could see there was some muscle in his arms as he had them crossed, it also didn't help that he looked young! Around my age or younger at least! Short cropped curl black hair and olive pallor to his pale skin with a cheerful smile on his face and his eyes... his red eyes stared right at mine with curiosity and something else I could not describe.
Vampire, the human blood sucking kind... shit.
He of course dressed like a model and can practically see Alice nodding her head in approval but would raise an eyebrow at his choice of necklaces that hung around his neck and the rings that decorated his hands, no comparison to my claddagh ring that rested on my right ring finger.
I gave him a questioning look, wondering why hell is this guy just staring at me in the middle of busy street, apparently not caring about the humans that could look in his direction and see his eyes. I could take a guess though and theories that they would think he was wearing cosplay contacts to make him feel unique or something like that.
It was strange, staring into his red eyes and not feeling the need to bring out my bat to teach him a lesson in staring at other people. Especially after all the attacks from red eyed vampires, you would think I would be extra wary of nomads like him but I didn't feel that with him.
In fact my heart fluttered and my little babies in waiting rose from the darkness within me.
Those reasons scared the shit out of me.
Jericho must have seen my face cause he turned to where I was looking and to spotted the vampire watching us. He snorts before he takes out a pocket watch out from his jeans.
"Exactly nine hours and twenty three minutes since I met you and you already have vampires coming out the wood works. Must be a new record for you." He reports.
The man smirks in amusement, no doubt hearing my friend's words as he uncrossed his arms and pushed away from the wall. My eyes widen as he takes a step towards us; it is the middle of the day in freakin Cairo! He was going to light up like a fucking Christmas tree. I began shaking my head at him while looking at anyone that was looking his way; we were in a popular area with people selling their food and artwork to tourists and such.
What was this guy doing?
He stopped however and frown as he turned his head a little as if hearing something from the alley way he was just leaving from, looking back at me he looks disappointed about something before giving me a small smile and gave a bow and turned back to where he came from and disappeared into the darkness. I gave a sigh in relief before looking back at Jericho who had been watching the whole me freaking out and the vampire.
"I swear to the goddess I could hear the two of you talking through your minds; 'What are you staring at?' 'You, I like what I see and I want to talk to you' 'Oh hell to the no you are not bringing your disco ass out in public and draw attention to everyone!' 'I don't care and- dammit someone is calling me to come back into the darkness but all I want to do is meet the light that is shining like the sun but alas I can not and so adieu my sunshine!" Jericho acted out the whole thing with different voices and everything.
I felt my face flush red before turning away murmuring. "Bullshit, he didn't think that."
"I am not bullshit!" he huffs catching up to me. "Look I know you are not exactly in touch with your romantic side as of late but that was a look of sheer 'my gods she hot as fuck'"
I shook my head. "Whatever, let's just get our supplies and get back to Riley and Bree.
"You know Filene."Jericho begins as he walks beside me to the market. "Just because one guy was and probably is an ass-hole, doesn't mean we all are."
Sighing I look around at the scenery around myself thinking back everything I have been through in the last year and half of my life; from carrying a cactus from Phoenix, to meeting the Cullens, fighting vampires and discovering about shape shifters and to even Bella's betrayal.
"It isn't just about one guy being an ass-hole." I start, looking back at Jericho. "It is about having those around you, the ones you trusted betraying said trust. It is about someone who is my sister, wanting to end her life and leave those who love her behind for a pretty face and never growing old. This whole me leaving Forks was not just so we could figure out what what going with me and the wolf spirit, it was only half of it; it is about me healing Jericho, from my sister and my friends."
"... If I was anyone else Filene, I would tell you that you are being over dramatic about all of this and that Bella is your family and you should accept her choices for there hers and hers alone." Silence was around and I feel my body tense at his comment, even going as far as getting ready to retort back but he lifts a hand up to stop me. "But, you are a seventeen year old girl who was smart enough to reach high school at fifteen because you wanted to stay close to your sister. You were surrounded by love from all your family members and not one loved you less; you lived in a bubble of light but not a month or so ago it got popped by none other than your own sister. There is healing Filly, but there is also this thing called running away from your problems."
We had both stopped once again on the side of the road, this time facing each other head on and ignoring the people around us.
"Well I will continue to 'run' until I feel ready enough to face them again. Until then let's get us some curry and see if I do not die from it." with that I swerved around and made my way down the road..
(Somewhere Else)
"... I will continue to 'run' until I feel ready enough to face them again, until then-" the Warlock hanged up.
Jasper stares down at his phone, sitting at the same fountain Filene was at not so long ago, with Rosalie beside him.
"Well at least we know where she is right?" He asks, looking up at his sister.
Rosalie smiles softly at him leaning against him into a hug. "Yeah and we know she is okay Jaz, Egypt is one of the safer places from our kind."
"Unless Amun catches a whiff of her." He interrupts with a light snarl.
"Amun isn't stupid, Carlisle already notified all the heads that she is off limits... god help anyone who touches a hair on her head." Rosalie snorts. "Or no one helps them at all."
Jasper smirks at that.
(Back in Egypt)
Jericho and I made it back thankfully peacefully, we decided to keep the news that nomads were near by from Bree and Riley since he hasn't really done anything other than stare.
However that plan came to a halt when knock came to the door. We all looked to one another, silently asking if we were expecting someone. With the resounding no; Bree went for the door and Riley stayed beside me with Jericho, tensing up for what or who is at the door.
Bree opened the door slowly, revealing a man and a woman covered from head to toe in fabrics that left only their red eyes peaking out. Since there was still daylight out I could only guess this was the only way they could get around during the day. With a sigh I gave a nod to Riley, praying that what I am doing is correct and that the next time I saw Carlisle I would make him teach me the culture of vampires if I want to live in this world.
The couple came in and as soon as Riley closed the door the two began to unwrap some of the fabrics off their body revealing the two as an older man and woman that I could only guess were around her dad's age minus the immortal years. I turn to Bree and she gave me a negative on intentions so I relaxed a little while Riley stood up with Jericho sitting closer to me.
"Greetings." The man speaks up after a while of silence. "My name is Amun and this is my one Kebi."
Kebi simply nodded to us staring quite hard at Jericho.
"My name is Filene." I reply politely. "These are my companions; Bree, Riley and Jericho."
"Yes, Carlisle told me about you, also to, keep an eye on you in case you are in trouble." He says almost taking a step towards me if it weren't for my three companions tensing up as he did. "But I can clearly see that Carlisle had nothing to worry about."
"Unfortunately." I sigh quietly, leaning against the table. "Riley and Bree are young, a few months old and they maybe strong but they do not know how to fight an old vampire and Jericho here well... let's just say that he can slow one down but I highly doubt the Volturi would try and grab me with just one person."
He raised an eyebrow at me. "You speak the truth and to be frank quite maturely, how old are you?"
"Seventeen." I answer and blinked; Just got taken back to Forks, back in the woods where Bella asked Edward how old he was. Gods it feels like such a long time ago.
"Really?" He asks reservedly with a light laugh. "Fascinating, well there is a reason I am here seeing you. Besides meeting the girl that has the whole Cullen family up in in a panic but also to tell you that a few of Aro's servant have been spotted within the city."
That got us all up from our seats.
"Shit shit mother fu-"
"Jericho!" I admonish.
"Oh shush Filene you are thinking the same thing and would have joined me in my swear dancing." He states pointing at me with a frown.
"We all would be Jericho don't get me wrong." I quickly say. "But I was going to say can you pack our things as you swear?"
"Oh, well in that case yes I can do that!" and with that Jericho walked into the bedroom and thus continued to swear like a drunken sailor as he got our things followed by Bree as Riley stayed with me me staying alert.
I do my best to keep Amun and Kebi's attention from the words coming out of his mouth. "I am so sorry for bringing them into your territory Amun, I thought we were extra careful when we got here."
"There is no trouble my girl."He says with a wave. "However I insist you come to my home and stay a while, just til things get quiet."
"Are you sure?" I ask. "We wouldn't want to inconvenience you."
"Boy she is bringing out all the big words for this guy." I can hear Jericho whisper not so quietly.
I grin at the sound of Bree smacking him.
"If you were, I wouldn't be offering, now come and get your things While Kebi and I go and talk to Innkeeper."He tells us ignoring Jericho as they wrapped themselves back up before leaving.
"Yeah... we are not trusting them, right?" Riley asks looking at me.
"If he is a friend of Carlisle's I got to have a little faith that he would not be sending us to him." If there was anyone I still have faith in it was Carlisle Cullen... and Jasper of course.
"Highly doubt they are friends with the good doctor." Bree comments, coming out the room followed by Jericho rubbing his shoulder where I guess she smacked him there.
I shrug shaking my head as I walk over and took my bag from Bree. "We have no other choice. From what Edward says about him some of Aro's minions has special gifts that not even us together can go against."
"Plus we are trying to have you not use the wolf." Jericho adds.
"Beg your pardon?" I blurt out in surprise.
"Yeah you use the spirit too much you become a wolf, no take backs." he explains.
"I thought the point of you doing your mouth to mouth was to get rid of it!" Riley snarls stepping towards Jericho.
The warlock lifts his hands up as if to defend himself from the now pissed off vampire. "No, I in every sense of the word 'calmed it down'. The less you use the spirit the less you become a wolf. If you had called me a month later that little cleansing I did would have taken a month rather than three days."
"And what happens if we didn't call you at all?" I ask, wincing at what I would be.
"Let us just say it is a good thing Sam and Dean Winchester do not exist or they will be hunting your ass." he states. "And your fangy friends would be dead."
"A werewolf?" Bree whispers looking at in what I hope in awe and not in fear.
"Okay one." Riley steps up. "Why couldn't you have told us before? And second, When Filene was full werewolf last time she only killed... Victoria, she didn't lay a claw anyone else not even me when I was threatening her family."
"That is where I am stomped." Jerri sighs. "Normally like any tale will say; werewolf drive of primal instinct, even hate. With what I have heard from you guys, she should have went right for her sister, but I guess sensing an old enemy distracted her from doing so, but that is just a theory."
"Hey guys." I step in, looking at the door then back to them. "Maybe we should talk about this on a later date?"
Riley looked as though he wanted to disagree but the others thankfully out voted and followed my lead as we packed the rest of our things.
It didn't take long to do so.
The trio follows Amun and Kebi in the dark town dodging from sight of other humans and Jane's brigade till they made it to the home. Filene wasn't gonna lie say she wasn't gawking at everything from the gate itself, the fountain, the garden, and heaven to Betsy the house. Filene had no time to admire more of the household as she, her two vamp kids and witchy friend were guided into the large room before being left alone.
The never got to talk about because in a coupe of days their hosts have insisted that they stay in the compound until the Vultures go flying else where. Til then Riley has taken up time to go out on his own with a girl named Tia who reminded Filene a little bit of Leah which hurt in her heart a bit but is happy Riley so she simply let them be. Bree has taken to Jerri a bit more and have been seen hangout at the library and pretty much guarding him from any vampire visitor who thought that he was a spicy snack.
Filene on the other hand, had become more recluse and kept to herself; researching from getting rid of spirits to how to be okay with yourself books.
Which shockingly does not help our poor girl
"Gods I cannot take these things seriously." She mutters, tossing the book to the side of her with a sigh before covering her face with her hands. "What to do what to do?"
Despite her brave face Filene felt like she was about to break into a million pieces. Right now she thought, she would be at home right now with her dad on the couch telling him he was now a proud father of a college girl and promise she will be a good girl for him. She would be working as a waitress at a diner for a while, making friends with her coworkers and complaining about her poor feet and how stupid people can get when it came with beverage.
She would have night calls with her sister, telling her about how her studies were and how they should have a weekend hang out with their mom. Maybe she would look up from the coffee machine and find a man with sweet brown eyes and a nice smile looking at her like she was the most fascinating thing he has ever seen.
But no, no instead here she was; on the run with two vampires and warlock in freakin Egypt dealing with a furry problem while getting over a little boy who though not her imprint kissed her sister because she was not good enough for him to try and love.
Yes the more she thought of the situation the more stupider she felt about herself being upset over it. She tried to think that the reason she was so upset was because her sister threw her feelings off the cliff and kissed Jake because she may or may not have feeling for him even though she was freakin engaged to her vampire.
However, logic tapped her shoulder and said "No Filene, the reason for the anger and being upset over all of this is not because your sister is an inconsiderate whore. But that through the whole supernatural experience you had, you didn't have anyone fall in love you like Edward and Jake did with Bella. You were jealous."
And gods did that not make her feel like a freakin horrible human being.
"One must love oneself before loving another huh?" Filene whispers with a sad sort. "Hard to do that when you can barely stand yourself."
"It does help when someone shows you what there is to love though?" a voice enters her mind.
Filene froze in her movement and slowly looks up from her hands to come face to face with red eyes as the man from the market sat across from her with gentle smile on his face.
Where I come from
You say things will be well and fun
Though the world around you is crumbling
Filene blinked in surprise. "I beg your pardon?"
His gentle smile turned up in slight amusement. "Love yourself before you love others? How are you supposed to do that when all you find in yourself is the things you hate right? Well I think it takes a person, a single person to help you find something to like about yourself and grow to love it as well as that other does."
And the truth bleak as a bee
Stay close believe, though things are not what they seem
I won't let them destroy these dreams
"From what I have seen miss, you have a lot of people to show you those things." He continues before leaning back on the chair, never losing eye contact with her. "So I wouldn't be discouraged just yet."
Silence filled the room as Filene finally asks. "Who the hell are you Casanova?"
