31- Learning
"Delilah, pay attention baby." Luke sighs with a smile. The little girls head snaps back and she grins innocently. "Look, what color is this?" He asks as he points to the crayon.
"Red."
"You're close, almost. Oooo..." Delilah's head tilts. "Rrrrrr-" Luke continues. Delilah gives him a strange look and he sighs. "Orange, baby. Say orange."
"Orange." Delilah smiles, attempting to crawl into lukes lap for kisses.
"No delilah, pay attention baby. Delilah- delilah, sweetheart, it's not time for kisses. Listen to daddy." Luke huffed as he picked Delilah up off his lap and set her in front of him again.
"What color is this one?"
"Pik!"
"Pink, that's right. How about this one?"
"Boo!"
"Good job baby. Now this one."
"Red!"
"Orange, Delilah. Listen to daddy, okay? This is orange. This ones red, this ones orange, okay?"
"Okay."
"What color is this?"
"Orange."
"No, baby, that ones red. Red." Luke groaned, becoming impatient. "What's this one?"
"Orange!"
"Yessss, you got it lilah! How about this one?"
"Orange."
"Yep, and this one?"
"Orange!"
"Good girl! How about this one, what color?"
"Orange!" Delilah shouts without even looking at the crayon lukes pointing to.
"You sure? Look close, baby. Look. What color?"
Delilah doesn't answer, instead she picks up the red crayon Luke is pointing at and tries to color.
"Delilah, no, we're not coloring." Luke sighs as he takes the crayon out of her hand.
"Daddy!" She whines, trying to grab it back.
"Pay attention, babygirl. What about this one, what color is this?" Delilah doesn't answer, instead she lets out a cry and throws herself on the ground, sobbing.
Luke sighs, sitting in silence with a raised eyebrow as he watches her fit, waiting for her to give up on her little antics of crocodile tears put on to make Luke feel bad and give up making her sit here and learn.
It doesn't take long before Delilah airs back up and glares at lukes merciless expression. "Bad daddy."
"No, bad Delilah. Now, what color is this? Tell daddy."
"No!"
"Delilah-"
"No!"
"Say no to me again little girl, see what happens." Delilah's jaw clenches at the threat, shooting a fiery glare at her daddy, who refuses to relent.
"What color is it."
Delilah's eyes slowly glance down and then back up at Luke.
"Red." She huffs. Luke smiles victoriously.
"Very good." He pulls a small candy bar out of something behind him and hands it to Delilah who whines and throws it away from her before seeming to realize what it is when it lands and crawling over to it to open it and eat it, still glaring warily at the blonde who smiles smugly despite her attitude.
"More." Delilah demands when she's finished the chocolate.
"Say please."
"More please." the little girl huffs.
"Maybe if you're a good girl." Luke says curtly before taking a new crayon out of the bag.
"This is green, lilah. Say green?"
"Daddyyyy!" Delilah whines.
"Say green."
She sighs. "Geen."
"Good girl. What color is this one?"
Luke raises an eyebrow as Delilah takes a deep breath in before letting out a very dramatic and long groan, and then giving Luke a blank stare.
"That's not a color."
This results in a shriek of protest to what Luke thought was a funny comeback to her bratty behavior and Luke sighs.
"Just a few more baby, I know you're getting sick of this. Point to Orange." Delilah sighs but points. "Now pink." She points to the correct crayon. "Red." She does so. "Blue." She points to the blue crayon. "Green." Delilah picks up the only crayon left and chucks it at Luke, who frowns and stands, scooping the little girl up and landing a seat on her bottom.
"Fine. If you're so tired and grumpy then you can take a nap."
Delilah shrieks and screams and wriggles at the word but Luke puts her in the crib and hands her momo. "If you get out of that crib before daddy comes to get you out, I'm gonna make you sleep in there tonight, understand?"
"No!"
Knowing she does, In fact, understand, Luke sighs and leaves the room, rubbing his face after he's closed the door, and he walks downstairs to make lunch for himself and the little brat.
While he's doing so, his phone rings, Michael's name in the caller.
"Hey mike, whats up?"
"Not much." Mike answers. "Just bored, I was wondering if I can come see you and miss thing."
"Don't know if you really wanna do that mate, she's being quite the brat today, but I don't mind."
"Ah, she'll be good for uncle Mikey. I'll be there in like, 10 minutes."
"Whatever you say, dude. Want me to make you lunch?"
"You know me so well." Michael laughs before hanging up and Luke chuckles.
When Michael comes in, lukes about halfway done making lunch.
"Where the baby?" The redhead asks as he comes in without bothering to knock.
"In her crib. If you feel safe you can get her, if not I'll get her when I'm done."
"You're so dramatic, Luke. Whatcha making?" Michael chuckles, then peers over lukes shoulder.
"Mac n cheese and hotdogs. M Hoping it'll cheer her up."
"Ah. Well, imma go get the little angel."
Michael runs up the stairs and enters the little ones nursery, where she's huffing and puffing up a storm in her crib, glaring at nothing until she sees Michael.
"Hi sweet thing! You miss uncle Mikey?"
Delilah squints, debating whether or not to be nice to the man and deciding for now she'll take advantage of the opportunity to get out.
"Mikey." She says as she reaches her arms up, and Michael chuckles and scoops her up, kissing her cheek.
He carries the unusually quiet little girl downstairs and to the kitchen.
"Is my baby in a better mood?" Luke asks as he hears Michael cooing at her.
"Seems to be, mr drama queen. Huh, little angel." Delilah smirks at the forming of a mischievous plan in her head, laying her head on Michael's shoulder and giggling at his cooing.
Luke smiles and reaches out for the little one so they can hopefully make up for earlier, and Michael hands her over, but Delilah whines, immediately turning away from Luke and reaching for Michael, who chuckles.
"Babygirl." Luke beckons her attention, but she pays no mind as she wriggles and puts her arms out to mike.
"Uncle Mikey! Wan Mikey!"
"Uuookay then." Luke frowns, handing her back.
Michael laughs and Delilah grins, snuggling up to him.
Luke raises an eyebrow and shrugs, going back to cooking as Michael holds Delilah on his hip and talks to him.
Delilah refuses to let go of Michael while they eat, sitting in his lap and ignoring Luke but giggling at everything michael does, and still when they go sit on the couch to talk, and when they take Delilah to her room to play, she insists Michael colors with her but doesn't let Luke joint, so he acts nonchalant, sitting next to them and watching or talking to michael.
By now, he's realized that she's purposefully making him jealous, so he acts like he doesn't care, just to piss her off, and even devises a plan of his own to teach her a lesson.
When it's time for Michael to go, Delilah makes a show of begging him to stay, clinging to him and crying.
"You wanna go with uncle Mikey Delilah?" Luke asks. "Wanna go spend the night?"
Delilah gives Luke a confused glance. She was sure ed be jealous and mad and upset that she's acting like she loves Michael so much more than him, but now he's encouraging it?
This confuses her, but she's stubborn, so she sticks with it.
"Yes! Uncle Mikey!"
"Is that okay with him?"
Delilah looks to Michael with pleasing eyes, and Michael also seems to catch onto the plan.
"Yeah, you wanna come have a sleepover?" Delilah nods enthusiastically, but she's unsure.
Daddy will change his mind before they leave, right?
"Okay, lets go pack a bag, lilah."
Luke can see the little ones hesitation and knows she'll give up soon, so the three march upstairs and Delilah packs herself a bag slowly, waiting for Luke to change his mind, but he doesn't. He helps her pack, seeming ready and willing to ship her off.
Fine, if that's how he wants to be.
Delilah happily carries her bag to Michael's car, both adults surprised she hasn't given up yet.
Michael looks to like, who shrugs. "Bye, Delilah, bye Michael."
He didn't even ask for a hug or kiss goodbye? Or tell her to be good?
Michael gets in as Delilah buckles and soon they're leaving.
Luke goes inside and watches tv as he waits for a phone call from Michael.
Delilah is confused, but she's not going to give up. She'll keep up this while liking Michael and not daddy thing until lukes begging, she's determined to.
She does have fun with Michael at his house, enjoys watching movies and cuddling and eating pizza no matter how much she misses daddy.
It's not until michael tells her to change into her pajamas for bed that she starts fussing. She does so, but then Michael tucks her in and turns off the light, beginning to shut the door, and she begins breathing heavy, tears welling up in her eyes. She hates sleeping without daddy, she just wants daddy to cuddle her and tell her he loves her and sing to her but apparently he doesn't even care about her anymore, he seemed happy to ship her off with his friend.
She regrets being such a brat, no wonder he wanted to get rid of her.
Delilah sobs and lets out a loud yell of "daddy!" Which causes Michael to come back in the room.
"What's wrong, little one?" He asks, knowing full well what's wrong. Delilah sobs heart brokenly.
"Want daddy! Need daddy! Please! Daddy!" She balls.
"Thought you wanted to spend the night with uncle Mikey, huh?" He asks, pulling her into his lap. She pushes him away and sobs harder.
"Okay. I'll call him, maybe if you're really sweet he'll come get you, okay?"
"Daddy!" Delilah cries, barely able to breathe from crying.
Michael phones Luke, who has been waiting patiently for the call, although he's surprised it came so late, he expected her to crack before bedtime.
Michael puts Luke on speaker phone.
"Hey Luke, Delilah wants daddy."
"Oh really now?" He hums.
"Daddy! Home! Daddy! Please!" Delilah sobs.
"But you wanna spend the night with uncle Mikey, Delilah, don't you?"
"No! Want daddy!"
"But you don't like daddy, you like Mikey."
"Love daddy! Need daddy, please!"
"You were pretty mean to daddy all day delilah, are you sure?"
"Yes! Please, daddy! Please! Sowwy Daddy! Sowwy! Love daddy!" Luke relents, figuring shes learned her lesson.
"Aw, babydoll, Daddy loves you too. I'm on my way already, okay baby? Im coming, you're okay sweet girl. Daddy's coming."
"Daddy.." Delilah cries again, heart hurting and needing her daddy to make it all better, not knowing why she was ever so bratty.
Luke hangs up with a "I'll be there soon, don't worry sweetheart." And Delilah cries, only letting Michael touch her to rub her back in comfort.
Luke comes in and straight to the guest room, scooping Delilah's limp sobbing frame up for her to cling tightly to him and sob harder. Luke sirs down and coos sweet words and comforts I'm jer ear.
"Daddy's right here baby, no more tears, daddy loves his little girl so much, you're okay, I love you baby, I'm sorry. You're okay now, sugar."
Delilah's cries die down some and Luke talks to Michael briefly, apologizing and thanking michael before bringing Delilah to the car, letting her sit in his lap and cry on the short drive home.
"Sowwy Daddy! Sowwy! Good girl! Good baby! Daddy's baby!"
"I know, you're daddy's good baby, it's okay now. Daddy's sorry, I know. You're so tired, angel. Let's go to bed, okay?" Delilah doesn't answer, so Luke carries her to his room, setting her down briefly to change, and then crawls in with her. She falls asleep quickly, crying softly, clinging to Luke all night, and she will all day tomorrow as well.
