Chapter 7
We sat side by side in silence.
I thought now may be a good time to tell Chloe about what I'd found out at the library about Louie Howard.
I also added about the strange shadowy creature I'd seen.
A shocked look spread across her face as she tried to process the information.
"So this used to be an insane asylum?"
I nodded.
She got up and paced across the room.
"Then that explains all of the creepy stuff we've witnessed."
"Yes it does. But I think this place harbours something more sinister." I looked nervously around the room.
"I bet you're right. Let's go and find out."
As we left the TV room we went back to the reception area where there was still nobody to be seen. We went the way which led to our rooms but suddenly stopped when we came face to face with the metal door I'd spotted yesterday. It certainly did look like it belonged in an old asylum.
The theories were true.
"Come on let's see what's in here."
She pushed the door but it didn't seem to budge.
"Look maybe this isn't such a good idea."
"Just help me push it open."
I sighed and we both stepped backwards.
On the count of three we slammed into the door with all our force and finally it swung open. We coughed as we were faced with a thick cloud of dust. Our eyes took a few moments to adjust to the darkness as we stepped inside.
We found ourselves in a dank and dimly lit corridor. In the dark my senses heightened and a strong smell of damp overwhelmed me. It was as if mould was living on the walls. When I looked down to see where I was going I noticed a long green carpet underfoot with a few red stains here and there.
I was going to question Chloe about what she thought it might be when she'd stopped. Ahead of us was another door with a light flickering above it.
"Don't you think we've come far enough?" I didn't like the feeling of this strange and unfamiliar place.
Something didn't feel right.
"I'm going in. You can go back to the room if you want but we could find something really cool in here."
She proceeded to the door and opened it.
Looking back at me she said "I'll see you later. I'll be fine."
And then she was gone.
I turned back towards the way I came and began to walk.
A sudden sense of dread filled me as I realised what I was doing.
I couldn't leave her in there on her own.
As much as I wanted to turn back I knew I had to go and find her.
The door was heavy but easier than the first to open. As soon as I opened it I was blinded by light. Blinking I took in my surroundings.
I was standing in a huge white room.
It looked like it hadn't been used for a long time. Boarded up windows were set high along the walls and from the ceiling hung a beautifully mastered crystal chandelier.
I panicked, I couldn't see Chloe anywhere. A black piano was sat in front of a small door. It was only about four foot high. Surely she wouldn't be able to fit through that. I took a few steps towards it as the chandelier came crashing down to the ground.
