Chapter 6
We were both soaked from only walking a few yards and the rain had made its way into my shoes.
As we approached the desk an unfamiliar man was standing behind it eyeing us.
He wasn't very tall and had an unfriendly face which made me feel uncomfortable.
"Hello, we've come to pay for our stay." Chloe handed him over the money just as a thundering crash sounded like it hit the building.
"One of our infamous storms has arrived." The same elderly woman we met the night before appeared from behind the man.
"You won't make it very far tonight. The roads outside the village are extremely dangerous in these conditions. Why don't you stay another? I can find a twin room for you to share."
"I suppose we could call Jade to let her know that we won't be able to make it today. We can leave tomorrow as soon as it stops."
Our room was number 20. We hadn't ventured that far down the seemingly never ending corridor before. A black shadowy mass hovered over the doorway, Chloe didn't seem to notice it. Maybe it was my imagination playing tricks on me.
The room was fairly spacious. Nicer than the one I had previously stayed in last night, there was no cold breeze to welcome me this time.
I saw the two twin beds and gave a sigh of relief. I wouldn't be sleeping on my own tonight. This room was much more comfortable and homely.
There was not much for us to do so we decided to go and find some light entertainment from the TV room beside the reception area. We'd noticed the sign earlier and heard muffled voices coming from within.
As we left the comfort of our bedroom we were hit by a strong gust of air.
We looked at each other and Chloe seemed scared, "What on earth was that?"
"I have no idea but I felt that last night in my room."
"Let's get out of here and see if anything good is on the box."
Before we turned the corner I looked back at the door and could have sworn I saw the same shadowy black creature scurry its way across the ceiling and out of sight.
We entered what was supposed to be the TV room. There was a small static TV sat on a table with five chairs circled around in front of it.
I grabbed the remote off of one of them and tried to scroll through the channels. The static continued. A quite buzzing vibrated through the TV. Chloe was rifling through the bookshelves around the room as I picked up an old VHS. She blew the dust off of it and handed it to me.
'Summer 1980' was written on it in black marker pen.
I looked beneath the TV set and found a video player.
"We may as well watch it." I inserted the tape and we both sat down quietly.
For about ten seconds nothing happened. Then a white screened flashed before our eyes followed by a scene of five people dressed in straightjackets. They were stood outside in what appeared to be an open field surrounded by flowers.
There was no sound so we couldn't make out what was happening.
Then a man appeared.
It was Louie Howard.
Suddenly the TV made a screeching noise which caused us to cover our ears and the picture sped up. Scenes rolled through one after another. All I caught a glimpse of was a group of people in jackets being led around a garden, they seemed to be having fun but then one of them collapsed and was carted off on a stretcher.
He was flailing around which I found disturbing because it was at a high speed. It then showed a group of people circling a bed and the same man being restrained. A black shadow flew at the camera and it stopped abruptly.
