Lucas Ain't First Priority

"Mom, why is Alexander here?!" Kaya asks in a paranoid tone of voice.

Her mother puts her hand on Kayas shoulder, "Get dry, I'll make us a pot of tea."

After a few minutes Kaya comes out of the guest bedroom with her hair damp and her black and white striped blouse and a neat jean, walking towards the grand dining room. A table in the middle of the space with a modern chandelier hanging from above with eight chairs displayed around it and a carpet to give the space a little comfort when entering.

She enters the room her bare feet touching the carpet and sits next to her mother, Alexander playing in Kaya's old bedroom with the toys she left behind. "What happened Kaya?"

Kaya looks at her mother knowing this day would come eventually. "He... cheated on me..." she adds "I was never perfect for him, he is seeing someone else behind my back after I sketched his whole life and gave him a child he wanted, how in hell could he do this to me, I gave him everything and he just throws me away like garbage!"

"How do you know he was cheating?" Her mother asks in a calm tone.

"I saw him at the club last night and I found a note in his closet a few days ago, when I decided to leave I forgot to take it with me."

"Why would you want to take it, in the first place?"

"So that I could call the number and know by now who I'm dealing with."

"Do you really think that would be wise?"

"Mother, I have been living in a hotel room for three days ans during those three days I've spent a quarter of my monthly budget, I had sex with a random man who used a dumb pick-up line and now I am hinding at my mother before Lucas finds out I am not on a work trip."

"Kaya you and Lucas has to sort this out because now Alex thinks you are back from your work trip and now his father is on a work trip."

"How many days?"

"Alex was here two days ago."

Kaya took to thought, "That lying son of a bitch, putting my mother on the work while he is at clubs and doing other stuff that the actual work."

Her mother looks at her and says, "Alex will be fine, but Kaya you need to talk to Lucas."

She stutters, "I... can't"

"Why not?"

"Lucas will divorce me, and I do not want to loose him, I went through shit to find him again... I want him to be mine and mine only."

"I understand that but what good is it to keep hiding from him?"

"Nothing will ever be good, I have to take care of his little mistress before he takes her and dumps me."

"Kaya would you really think he would do that?"

"Mom, you do not know Lucas like I do..."

Kaya sighs and takes sips of the tea her mother poured in the teacup, her mother coughs and Kaya looks at her at the side of her eye. "Now it is my problem to tell you about."

She sighs and puts down the teacup on the coaster and looks at her mother, "Kaya when Lucas arrived here to drop off Alex he said her was going on a work trip the same as you, but he wasn't the same, he had dark rings arpund his eyes and he... he was just not like himself."

"Mom we barley visited, he acts as if he was working so hard-" her mother cuts her off, "No, he was like not at all himself, he was sleepy and could not finish a sentence. He looked overworked and paranoid."

"Oh please he is on that act again."

"What act Kaya? Because he really didn't look like hewas putting up an act."

"Ok away from that what else did he do."

"That was all dropped Alex off and said he was going to a work trip for a few weeks."

Kaya looks at her mother in silence not knowing what to say to her, she has nothing anymore all of her words were gone. She sighs and sips on her tea again. "Kaya all I want to tell you is that you need to sort your own stuff on your own."

"I will try because, so far I only have you left."

"Why?"

"Well Lucas has his things and I said that Karina should not be messing in someone else's conversation, she saw me at the club but don't know if she told Lucas, and father came by at the café to tell me he was a changed man."

"Your Father !?" Her mother asks concerned and adds, "What did he say?"

"He told me he went to church and now he is done with his religion of drugs and pills and only the dearly beloved lprd can help us with our problems, he invited me to the church to attend one of their sessions."

"And?"

"I said I would look into it."

"Kaya... this is you now so you can make the call, I do not care if you go or skip it but you need to be honest with yourself first, put Kaya and Alexander first."

"Yeah I will try, but how was Alex?"

"Well that is a long story to tell you, he loved my newly baked potatoes, and eats all his salad if he gets dessert, so it looks like someone took my advice after all."

Kaya smiles softly and takes her empty teacup back to the kitchen and notices a flyer on the fridge, "Mom, what is this flyer of Orthodox Easter?"

"Oh we get that every year..."

"Do you attend?"

"Yeah... I was also planning to take Alex to celebrate it with us."

"Oh... when is it this year..."

"It is next week, and I've heard it will be bigger than last year. It will attract many tourists so you could join."

Kaya looks at the flyer and through, "What if he sees me... Lucas, he will be so mad but what if he really is gone for a work trip... no Kaya you saw him at the club so just be careful you have your sundress, the wig and other stuff."

She places the cups in the sink and says, "I will join you guys then."

Her mother smiles and sips slowly on her tea while Kaya, walks through the hallway to her right was her old room where Alex is playing at the moment, then on her right was the bathroom and as she walks further on the end was the guest bedroom and on her left was her mother's room, she enters the guest bedroom all of her clothes neatly in the closet and her suitcase also in the closet.

She inhales and exhales and lies on the bed listening to the rain falling on the ground from outside, the chilled wind blowing through the open window giving Kaya chills running down her body.

She feels exhausted and tired from the past few days, hiding from someone takes a lot of energy. She closes her eyes and focuses on her breath until she fells asleep.

Screaming in agony and the pain of giving birth to their beloved son Alexander Higgins, Kaya could finally hold him for the first time in her hands, the sweat rolling off the side of her face. The beautiful boy with his closed eyes breathing in his mother's arms.

She gives a soft smile and gives the baby to the midwife, she feels nauseous and tired and passed out...

She woke up from her passing oit after giving birth, her body still tired but has rested up for the dew days it has been out. She is observing her space, the smell of fresh sanitizer, white walls and soft bed she is laying on.

The day that she felt the most pian of her life, she would never go through it again... unless she looks to her left and noticed the empty chairs, Lucas isn't with her like the romantic books she has read thay every man is on thier left side sleeping in the single chair and when the nirse walks in giving the woman an complement saying that the man was there from day one, no not to Kaya.

The nurse walks in and congratulate Kaya on being a mother, until Kaya asks, "Where is my husband?"

The nurse looks at her and by now Kaya knew he wasn't with her during giving birth, she feels the tear rolling from her eye knowing he bailed on her...
