How It All Falls Apart

Kaya sits behind her oak desk, it has been a full ten hours later when she found out her husband was having an affair behind her back.

She couldn't do anything, and just sat behind her desk and listened to the soft opera music playing in the background on record, what could she possibly do?

She couldn't divorce Lucas because that would mean court and sharing their child, Kaya wasn't good over the fact that they should share their child.

Kaya doesn't get good ideas very often and when the best idea comes to mind she lost all hope to do it. Kaya sighs and hears a knock on the door, "Come in." The door opens and not to Kaya's surprise it is Karina.

"Friend, why are you just sitting in your chair behind your desk... and the music?" Karina asks confused

Kaya sighs and switched the record player off, she replied, "Karina, did you and Jordan ever had... something on?"

"Kaya... you know I do not like talking about my deceased husband... but for this topic I guess I'll have to answer." She walks towards Kaya and sits in one of the chair displayed across from the desk.

"Jordan was a great partner and I wouldn't try to marry anyone again... Jordan did kept secrets from me but it was personal."

"Like what?" Kaya asks

"Well you see Kaya-" Karina was cut off by her friend, "Did he had an affair with a woman, that you didn't know about."

"What?" Karina asks thinking her friend is becoming crazy she continues, "No it is nothing like that... he kept the secret because it made him uncomfortable talking about it, and the fact he took his own life made it difficult for me to cope but anyway why do you think your husband is having an afair?"

Kaya looks at Karina and thought to herself "Geez, maybe I should leave it alone, I really don't need her to be involved in this... she already has a lot on her plate."

"You know what, Karina." Kaya begins, "I will handle Lucas, so you do not have to worry about it."

Karina replies, confused, "Ok, what ever you say. Wanna go for a coffee before your special patient comes in?"

Kaya sighed and nodded yes; she stood up from her chair behind her desk and walked with Karina out of her office. They walk the same route toward the ground floor, and out the doors they go.

They walk ten minutes from the workplace, heading to their favorite place to chill and catch up, "Enigma Cafe Santorini." They walk into the cafe with freshly baked goods, and the fresh smell of crushed coffee beans fills their nostrils.

They were ideally seated and handed a menu out to order. Karina didn't bother to look at the menu, nor did Kaya. Their usual waitress asks, "Good Day ladies, would that be two filtered coffees no sugar or milk plus two freshly baked butter croissants."

Kaya chuckles and nods her head with a soft smile. The waitress walks off leaving the two alone. "So what makes your patient so special?" Karina asks.

"It really not that special they only consider talking to me and no one other... why? I don't know." Kaya replies

Karina licks her lips and says, "Ok what ever floats your boat, but now you tell me what are you going to do with Lucas?"

"I already told you... I've got it undercontrol." Kaya lies, wether she feels guilt rise in her throat over lying to her friend or either she doesn't know what to do with the fact Lucas is taking another woman to bed.

Multiple thoughts flows through her brain but instead she has nothing, her sense of direction took flight when she found out about the letter.

"The letter!" She thought, how could she be this stupid and gullible, but wait she left it in his wardrobe and the only way she could get it back was either let him sleep on the coach again or she has to go home earlier than usual.

It has the number she only needs to take it and call it, but wait what will she say, how could this turn around, Kaya never overthought as much as of now.

Her heartbeat becomes faster making her anxious, and the bad part of all this is that Karina would know. She has to hide it and quick.

Thank the lord their coffee with the baked croissants came just in time, placing the cups and the morning croissants on the table Karina thanked the waitress as did Kaya.

Back at the workplace Kaya sits anxiously behind her desk and when she becomes anxious she makes stupid choices, still multiple thoughts through her head. Until she hears a knock, she inhales and exhales trying to be calm and walks towards the door.

Opens it and invites her patient into the room. The patient sits on the chair facing another chair on the other side. Kaya closes the door and begins her session with the client.

While she sits through the session and listens to her client she thought to herself, "What if I go out of town for a while just to be careful enough leave Lucas and spy on him for a while, but wait I can't leave Santorini... wait I know just what to do."

After an hour and a half Kaya quick leaves the office and drove back to her home, she climbs out her door shuts it and bardge into her home, not a soul in sight. It is wierd to be home without a soul in the house, it makes her worried there should always be something happening even there should be sound to Kaya's ear to make her comfortable.

She exhales and runs upstairs, opens Lucas's wardrobe and looks through it, "It isn't there." She though she couldn't seem to find it. It couldn't just grow legs and walk away, her mind is everywhere, not getting her bearings together.

Kaya sighs and takes out a suitcase from the hall closet and takes it to her bed, zips it open and towards her wardrobe she went, until she was startled by the ringtone of her phone. She takes out her phone and noticed it was Karina.

She accepts the call and held the phone up her ear, "Hey, what's up?" Kaya begins

"Kaya where the hell are you, your shift isn't over yet." Karina confronts

"Karina I can't talk about that right now I need to go."

"Go where Kaya? You know you can stay with me if there is something wrong at home."

"Karina I am taking my things and staying at the Athena Glass Hotel, I already booked myself 3 days-" Kaya was cut off by Karina saying "You did what? Kaya talk to me is it about this Lucas thing, because I can help you."

"No you can't!"

"Kaya listen to me first, please."

"No Karina just because your husband took his own doesn't mean mine would, your problem isn't mine."

"Fuck. You."

After a few seconds Kaya hears Karina hunged up the phone, Kaya takes the phone away from her ear and placed it back into her pocket. She looks at her wardrobe all the clothes, the anxiety makes her more stress but no she takes one of her business suits with a pair of white heels.

Takes her pajamas and her bathroom supplies, zips up her suitcase and before she leaves her room she thought where the letter could be, but she couldn't look for it now she could either come back later or figure out another plan.

She didn't have time for that, and made the rational choice to leave her house that very instant. With her suitcase and everything, climbs in her car and drives off... leaving the house, it feels she leaves everything she worked for but it could be for the best, her son, her education, her... she sighs her husband.

Feeling tears prickling her eyes, she sniffs holding back the tears and not trying to sob, she takes a breath and swallows her pity, takes out her phone from her pocket and dails her husband.

"Hello Lucas here." He answers

"I'm leaving." Kaya says.
