Tears Of Truth

She turns on the bedroom light and discovers, the worst of all, underwear, shirts from formal wear to everyday wear, jeans, shoes and socks lying everywhere from the floor on the bed and following into the bathroom.

The stench of filth that fills the air, she starts to pick up the clothing on the ground and puts them in the hamper placed at the entry door. Each passing second, each underwear she throws into the hamper makes her feel sick, she knows about his bad deeds, she knows about it all. But she can't confront him.

This issue has been discussed many times, she doesn't want to lose him she wants to keep him and she will just for Alex's safety but with Alex back in the house maybe things could go wrong.

She threw in the last clothing piece that lay on the floor and out of nowhere her phone started to buzz in her pocket. She pulls it out and answers it in her normal voice "Kaya Higgins and to who am I speaking to?"

"This is Alexia doctor." The voice from the other side answers

"Oh… hey Miss Alexia, how may I help?"

"You told me two weeks ago that I should come back for my appointment, but you weren't at your office and last week the same…"

"Oh yeah sorry miss, I've been working outside of Santorini with other patients but I can set an appointment this Friday if you like?"

"Yeah that would be great, could we make it around three or four please?"

"I will send you an email with all necessary details. It is necessary that we talk about it and sorry about my absence. I will make it as quick as I can."

"Thanks doctor."

"Ok see you then… goodbye."

Kaya ends the phone call and puts her phone back into her pocket, she resumes with cleaning the room. She took the full hamper downstairs and went back up again. She opens the curtains and opens the windows for fresh air, she can't bear the stench that was left behind many nights ago. Kaya then throws all pillows off the bed with the duvet. She takes the duvet and throws it neatly onto the bare mattress, she sticks her hand over the wrinkles making them straight and neat.

She takes the pillows on the ground and placed them back onto their original spots. The bedroom seems clean enough but she is in the right spot, she walks up to Lucas's wardrobe, opens it and… nothing all his clothes are gone maybe because they are in the hamper but the note…?

She just needs the note, she starts to look everywhere in the room, each corner, each angle and everywhere even where dust can lay to rest. Until it strikes her- his nightstand. She opened the nightstand and with gratitude she found the letter that was given to him, the red lipstick, the phone number. Everything she remembered that was on it is still there.

She felt a spark in her heart, a sense of gratitude, happiness but also a sense of betrayal and anger. She could phone the number and could find the woman he left for, but she could play this out for a while to see what will happen.

She puts the letter in her pocket and goes on with her deeds around the house, the bedroom is neat and she goes downstairs and starts with the laundry. Throws all clothes into neat coloured piles, white, blue and even the tiny yellow pile. She takes the first pile and pushes it in the washing machine, throws washing powder and scented chips in the washing machine. Sets for normal washing and starts it.

The water starts to pour onto the clothing and now Kaya just waits, the downstairs seems neat and the upstairs was tidy enough to be called done. Kaya looks at the clock hanging on the wall of the kitchen '13:15' Kaya then thinks to herself that she needs a break from being a maid and needs advice to know what to do next.

She leaves the house with the spare key, she calls an uber and a few minutes later her uber picks her up and takes her back to the local market, Kaya goes regularly to the market because she could escape her fatal reality. She saw that the market was open and went inside, looking around for something to eat.

A delightful fresh sandwich, she took it from the shelf and went to the till. Pays for her sandwich and walks out of the market but when she wanted to sit on her spot at the bench she saw a man sitting on her spot. He looks familiar, could it really be… Dean.

Father dearest, she walks up to the bench and sat beside him, she opened her sandwich and took a disappointed bite and chew her sandwich. She swallows and asks "What do you want?"

"Do not assume when meeting with someone they want something, I did not raise you like that."

"What the fuck… you're kidding me right you abused me, scolded on me and mom raised me not you."

"I divorced your mother because she was reckless. I was an addict because of her, didn’t you realise that when you left her house? Did you not realise that your mother wanted you out of her house when you got there?"

Could he be right, did Kaya's mother want her out or what?

Dean continues "I am here not to fight. After our last encounter at the coffee shop I knew I had to find you to make it right."

"So you followed me?"

"No, I knew that you would go to your mother for help and the day you left I went to her to ask where you were. She wouldn't answer me so I've been sitting for the past few days here waiting and I wouldn't care if I die here. It's peaceful and beautiful from the horizon."

"But you still didn't answer my question- what do you want?"

"Follow me to church and let me try and show you that your life isn't as shitty as it seems."

"You do not know what is happening in my life why do you think I tried to minimise my time with you… oh wait I tried but failed, the way I failed to keep a stable relationship with mom, my best friend doesn't want anything to do with me and my husband is going to leave me for someone who he thinks is better than me."

"You see you are negative and don't see the positivity on the other side you are stuck on the dark side of life I can try and help you to find your way out of it."

Kaya don't look at her father and takes another bite out of her sandwich and says, "You know what I thought about when I saw you at the coffee shop? I thought you were just a hallucination, I thought you were dead because my grief was too much even if I hated you so much. But when you hugged me I knew you weren't dead and I felt safe for that moment until you left me, I remembered the things you did to me the bad things. You made me this way, protective and something people called an item."

"Where? Are you called an item? You have a son to care for your husband isn't your priority take it from me your mom was never my priority she has her own needs her own hard work but you didn't know that, the house she lives in wa spayed off using the divorce fees your college tuition… the divorce fee, you mother never worked she was fired from a social worker years ago and I was the one who had to bring in the money. I used to be drunk each night because your mother could not just stop nagging about our financial situation… I could be called the worst father ever but I wanted you to know that I tried to make you tough and protective but you must choose your destiny and no one else could just you."

As Kaya tries to avoid eye contact she feels the tears in her eyes prickling her, she blinks and a tear rolls off her cheek. She tries to remain in control Dean puts his arms around Kaya and gives her a hug, she feels loved and safe around the arms of her father. Kaya gives a hug back to her father, she realises that she needs her father in her life and the hatred she had against him must come to an end.

Kaya needs this, her father giving her love back because Lucas couldn't. Hugging him with true love was peaceful and gave a sense of relief for the future ahead. "You know you can give me a call anytime." Dean whispers in Kaya's ear.

The two let go of each other and Kaya wipes the tears off her cheek and out of her eyes, she then asks Dean, "I found the letter of the woman that Lucas is having an affair with, but I don't know what to do with it. Must I call? Should me and the woman meet up?"

"The best advice I can give you is to talk to God. He will give you an answer even if it seems he didn't answer your prayer. He will give you a solution to your problem, talk to him and he will answer honestly."

"Could… could you take me to church so that I can talk to him?"

"We can say prayer right here if you want to?"

"No, I feel closer to the place you worship him and the church will be the only place."

"Ok whatever you say dear."

Kaya and Dean both stands up from the bench, Kaya throws away the half-eaten sandwich, and follows Dean to his car, a few miles later Dean climbs in his Urban Cruiser and Kaya climbs in the passenger's seat next to him. He starts to car and drives off onto the road a few miles off Dean drives into the parking area a few miles
outside the Church of Agios Nikolaos. Kaya and Dean climb out of the car and starts walking up the stairs towards the church, as they arrive at the doors to the church and enter the building.

They walked through the entrance and through the royal doors the church was empty, the beautiful dome above Kaya and Dean of Christ giving the church a beauty and sense of hope and life. Dean and Kaya sit in the front row pew chairs and Dean said to Kaya softly, "Speak to him Kaya let him know that you are here for help."

Kaya closes her eyes and holds her fathers hand tightly, he closes his eyes with Kaya and she begins to say prayer to their beloved God. After Kaya said her prayer she said Amen and the two opened their eyes, as Kaya looked to her side and saw her father with tears in his eyes, she gave a soft smile and gave him a tight hug.

He wipes the tears from his eyes and stands up with Kaya from the pew chair. They walk out of the church and back down the steps to the car. They climbed in the car, Dean started the car and drove onto the road.

"Where should I drop you off?" Dean asks

"You can drop me at my house, you know where we live right?"

"Yeah I do." Dean answers and starts to drive directly to the direction of Kaya's house. Kaya never felt like this she said a prayer and now she needs to do the right thing but what would that be? Having the letter in her pocket could be a risk and being in the house that gives her toxicity doesn't seem good to be in. She will do anything for Alex, never mind Lucas she needs to protect Alex and make sure that he is ready for the adult world when going off to college.

And then Kaya can leave Lucas for dead, thirteen years to go, maybe ten at least. So she must cook up a plan she could follow through. Wednesday is the last day of her job as a Paid Maid. She can call the woman after her final shift and meet up with her if nothing falls in with the plan. Karma can be unpredictable sometimes.

That is her plan for the near future, and she will follow it until then. Kaya noticed that Dean stopped in front of her house, she gave her father one last hug and said "Thanks dad, I will call you if I need anything."

"No worries, peach,  take care."

Kaya climbs out of the car and closes the door of the car, Dean drives off and the car disappears in the distance. She turns around and walks up to the front door of her house, opens the door with the spare key and enters the house. As she looks around the kitchen she noticed the clock reading '14:05' her shift is on the verge of ending and she has to hang the wet laundry.

To the laundry room, open the washing machine, take the drying rack and set it up and start to hang the wet clothes on the rack. After the first pile she puts the second colour pile in, sets the machine, starts it and waits. After a few minutes she hung the clothing on the rack and did the same thing with the last pile.

As she hung the final clothing she took a look at the time '16:30' it's time to go 'home' or for her sake the guest room. She leaves the laundry room and into the guest bedroom she enters a few minutes later she hears the garage door opening. The car parked in and a door opening and closing. It was Lucas who also helped Alex to climb out from behind.

"Why does he pick Alex up now at the perfect time…?" Kaya thought.

After a while Kaya puts her phone on charge but when she looks at her lock screen she notices something different than usual a Messenger notification, but who could it be is the question she only knows three people on messenger, Lucas, her mother and… Karina.

She opens her phone and opens the Message, but it wasn't either of them it was titled 'Unknown' and the message reads: "We should meet up please."

Who could it be, if she only allowed three people on messenger how could an unknown number message her unless. She opens her messages app and asks the three about the unknown number, she will have to wait since its '20:35' means they could be asleep.

Hopefully tomorrow will be the last day of Kaya's suffering as a maid, cleaning up her own place is too much work and hard but that is what it is she put herself in this position, maybe her near future plan could still work… her phone makes a 'ding' noise. She looks at the message that was sent… it couldn't be.
