Chapter 1 (Book 2)

Book 2: Heal His Heart

~•~

Blue sky, gentle breeze... it was a lovely afternoon at Lucy’s school. The sun was high up at the sky, its bright rays hitting leaves and branches of the trees. Students were scattered around either chatting or studying. Others were eating and minding their own businesses. It was a typical day at Fairy Tail Academy.

There sitting under a tree was a blond girl whose name was Lucy. She was alone yet again, for her best friend was very busy with academics. Today, she had a lot of studying to do, but then Lucy didn’t feel the need to do studying because her mood was somehow crappy.

“And yes, I know. I love them! But I wish he was mine.” Lucy heard a random girl giggling, and her mood had become worse. She instantly knew what they were talking about. It’s been what? A year, perhaps? But the memory of everything that had happened exactly a year ago was still fresh in her mind. The anniversary... it’s today.

°•FLASHBACK•°

This is it. Finally, I’ll tell him.

“Natsu, I’m breaking up with... with you.” She choked up, staring up at him with sparkling eyes. The pinkette didn’t hear it as he was too caught up by the peck on his cheek just a moment ago. Lucy sighs at this and her breathing became irregular. “Natsu.” The boy finally snapped out of it. “I’m breaking up with you.”

Natsu stayed tranquil for awhile. A moment later, he burst out laughing, even snorting after some time. “Okay, funny joke.”

“No, I’m serious.” She ran a hand through her hair with a poker face, just to show him seriousness. Natsu, of course, didn’t believe her.

“Then why did you kiss my cheek?”

“For—”

“Lucy, Lucy, Lucy. You can’t fool me. I mean, I’ve done that to a lot of girls already. I’m an expert, unlike you. And today is April 5. April Fool’s Day is done. Quit it. Let’s just enjoy spring.”

As he tried to intertwine their fingers, Lucy snatched it frustratedly. “I don’t like you Natsu. I am serious.”

“Lucy—”

“No! You listen to me. I wasn’t serious about dating you. I, for once, wanted for you to learn a lesson: to not break girls’ hearts. Don’t you know how much that hurt? I dated you for Lisanna, for revenge. Now, here it is. Our relationship is over. My feelings for you were fake.”

Natsu watched her explain everything blankly. As cherry blossom petals fell on both of them, Lucy waited for his reply patiently. “So you did all of those for vengeance? For Lisanna?” He blurted out angrily, taking Lucy to her scared zone. She hasn’t seen him this angry before, and this was a first. “You’re successful. Thank you for making me fall and breaking my heart, Lucy Heartfilia.” Natsu said her name spitefully, almost making Lucy grimace.

He then walked away with Lucy watching his back until it disappeared in the horizon.

°•END OF FLASHBACK•°

That’s how practically their relationship ended.

Natsu was back to his old self: the player who liked to break girls’ hearts. He got worse since he dated ten girls in a day that he probably dated all of the girls already. Can you believe that? Everyone was shocked when he became back—back with his cocky attitude as a casanova.

Lucy’s parents were still oblivious to that fact and were still happy for Lucy and Natsu. Her mother was asking her about Natsu and her every single time she came home from school, and her answer will always be: “Fine, just like always.”

Lisanna... the girl is palpably glad about the news, but actually didn’t care now. She had her boyfriend whose name is Bickslow. She’s been bragging it around for awhile now, and Lucy couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

When Levy had become aware about it though, she became the monster as Lucy expected. Lucy told Levy everything, and was mad for about thirty days—which means nearly a month—, clearly disappointed. She forgave her after that and said she couldn’t blame her and Lisanna, but was still a little hung up on the event.

About Natsu and Lucy’s current status, it’s not awkward as what you think it is. They were acting as if nothing happened between them. Lucy didn’t know whether Natsu still held feelings for her or not. But hoping he already did, she tried to forget about him.

Today she remembered him, though.

“I should go study at the library.” Lucy mumbled to herself, trying to distract herself from her own thoughts.

On her way, Natsu passed by, his arms draped around a random girl he was dating at the moment. She looked at him blankly as he did, turning away after a minute of looking at each other.

Way to distract myself. Wait, I shouldn’t be having these thoughts in my mind. It’s just a year passing by after Natsu and I broke up. Trying to shake away the gloomy feeling, a smile broke her poker face—it was a genuine smile.

Natsu saw this and did the unexpected—or somewhat expected: ignored Lucy.

Lucy began skimming through the pages of her French book. A boy with a wide grin appeared in her mind, making her concentration level drop to zero. She remembered Natsu who taught her French because she wasn’t actually listening to their professor. “Lucy, focus!”

“Lu-chan!” Turning around, she saw Levy with the brightest beam on her face. “I’ve finished doing the project. So, what are you studying? French? Uh, the quiz is cancelled according to our president. We’d have an early dismissal.”

“Why so?”

“Meeting about bad guys and their behavior. You know what I mean.”

The rest of their free time ended. “I’ll be passing these requirements to Professor Macao. You go on without me.” Levy said in a hurry, running away right after saying that.

Lucy, having no choice, walked alone to her house. She was humming an Avril Lavigne song when pink hair filled her vision not too far. It’s none other than Natsu.

Awkward: the best description. This was the first time in all days and months that Lucy felt awkward.

As they passed by each other, their arms slightly brushed against each other. This time he wasn’t with any girls. Lucy’s quiet sigh proved that she was relieved with that fact.

Lucy turned around to see Natsu walking farther from her. “Natsu.” He came to a stop slowly, turning around. “I-I’m sorry.” Why am I apologizing? I shouldnt be! Stop, Lucy! “Sorry for breaking your heart.” No! He didnt apologize to the girls, so you shouldnt apologize

Her thoughts were cut off by Natsu ignoring her and walking away. Lucy stood there, completely dumbfounded of what had just happened.

“Lucy!” Levy ran towards the blond beauty, gasping when she saw the teary eyed girl. “W-Why are you crying?” I’m crying? I’m freaking crying? “Hey now, it’s okay.” Levy embraced her friend who cried silently in her arms. “What happened?”

“I don’t really know why I’m crying.” Lucy mumbled, letting go of the bookworm.

Levy flashed her a worried look and sighed. She patted Lucy’s back gently. “Well, I saw Natsu back there with no girls around him. It’s just Natsu alone—wait a minute. If I saw him then you met him as well?” Lucy nodded. Levy then backed away, shuddering. “Okay, that must be the awkwardest situation of your life. Pardon me for asking. So what happened?” Lucy started tearing up again. “Hey! Okay, okay. I’m not gonna ask.”

They strolled towards Lucy’s house again. It’s hard to breathe—according to Levy—with this atmosphere around.

“Mind telling me the event and the reason you’re crying?” Levy inquired, propping up her elbows on Lucy’s comfy mattress after getting home.

“I apologized for some unknown reason, he didn’t reply, then he walked away. As for the cause of my tears, I honestly don’t know.” Lucy mumbled, blowing her nose on a piece of tissue.

The bluenette sat up immediately. “You apologized? Lucy Freakin’ Heartfilia apologized? Wow, that’ll be the headline of the news.” She received a glare. “Sorry. Just shocked. And you don’t know why you’re crying? How come? There must be a prob... lem... I think I know what it is.” Levy smirked up at Lucy. “Is it because of Natsu, hon?”

Lucy’s cheeks heated up. She crossed her arms defiantly. “No! Why would I cry because of that stupid and heartless jerk? Ew! Can’t imagine it.”

Levy shook her head, smiling. “Verbal diarrhea, my friend. You’re totally lying.” Lucy huffed. “So it is because of him.”

Lucy’s blush deepened. “Yeah, yeah, you don’t have to rub it in my face.”

“I’m not rubbing it in, I was stating the truth.”

“Whatever.”

The bookworm looked at her friend in curiosity. “Did you cry because he ignored you?” Lucy didn’t answer as Levy was correct. “Well, you once broke his heart so I wouldn’t be surprised if he announced to the school that he despised you so much.” Lucy winced, thinking that those words were a little harsh. I didnt want to do it but I had to.

“Whatever. Don’t you dare tell what you know to anyone.”

“Lucy,” Levy sang, smiling at her friend mischievously. “Isn’t it obvious? You like Natsu! And since you’re my best friend, I’m gonna give you the best advice I have in mind. Lucy Heartfilia, heal Natsu Dragneel’s heart. Back then, your mission was to break his heart. Now, you have to Heal His Heart.”
