Chapter 4

When Kara entered her office the following morning, still wrapping her head around the idea that she actually owned her own office, she was surprised to find Alex waiting for her.

"You okay? You actually look like you're kind of sore." Alex asked, but it was clear by the smirk on her face that she was not concerned, but that she was simply being snarky.

"Be quiet. Let's just say that I did not get a lot of sleep last night." Kara groaned as she sipped her coffee, which was double her regular sized order, since she needed extra caffeine.

"Yeah I bet. Isn't that the first time you've gotten laid in like 3 years?" Alex asked.

"Enough." Kara said.

"No way, this is too much fun." Alex said cheekily.

"I can't help it if my choices are kind of limited for that sort of thing, since powers kind of make it difficult and it would be too awkward to have to ask J'onn to wipe the memories of anyone who might've seen me slip up." Kara said.

"Fair enough." Alex said, finally backing off.

"Anyways, what brings you here, since I'm guessing it's not to comment on my sex life." Kara said.

"No, that's just a fringe benefit. I'm actually here because you need a suit and base. If Astra and Myriad are coming, then we need Supergirl to be ready to stop them, since you and J'onn are the only people in the city who are naturally immune to it." Alex said.

"I need to find someone I trust to make both of those things since I don't trust Lena with something like that." Kara said.

"You also need to pick a location for your base." Alex said.

"I'm honestly thinking about putting it here." Kara said.

"Wait, in this building?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, I mean, after all, I do own this building." Kara said.

"And tell me again how you're able to afford that?" Alex asked.

"Mon-El bought this place for me last year." Kara said.

"How could he afford that on a police officer's salary, since I'm assuming he hasn't accessed any daxamite funds." Alex asked.

"He hasn't. It turns out that the family that adopted Mon-El in this reality was a pretty wealthy one. Not Luthor wealthy, but relatively close." Kara said.

"Right, I forgot that the Matthews family is rich. Nice to know that they have morals though, since they raised Mon-El to be a good man who actually protects people." Alex said and Kara nodded.

"From what I remember, they're very down to earth and they don't like to toss their wealth around. And since Mon-El is their only child." Kara said.

"He inherited their fortune." Alex said.

"Well his foster parents are still alive, but yes. And they had no problem with it, since they love me." Kara said.

"It's hard not too. How did his parents make their money?" Alex asked.

"His foster father is a lawyer and his foster mother was born into wealth, but she was never really into all that high society stuff, leaving her family's business behind to become an archaeologist." Kara said.

"Sounds like you really lucked out. But you think that this place will work?" Alex asked.

"Considering the fact that right now, I don't need more than the first three floors of this building, including the basement, I see no reason why we can't convert the top two floors into a base of operations." Kara said and Alex nodded in agreement.

"You have anyone in mind for building it?" Alex asked.

"I have two choices right now, however, I'm not sure if either of them are available." Kara said.

"Winn and Brainy." Alex said and Kara nodded.

"Only problem is, as far as I know, Brainy is still in the future and I don't even know if Winn still lives in National City." Kara said.

"Why don't you turn around and find out." a familiar voice said and they both turned to find Winn waiting for them.

"Were you waiting for an entrance line?" Kara asked as she rushed forward to hug him.

"No I just had good timing." Winn said as he then hugged Alex.

"When did J'onn?" Alex asked.

"This morning. I think he said I was the last person in National City whose memories he needed to restore and he also brought me up to speed on the whole Lena situation. So I'm guessing that's why you need me to build you a base and a suit?" Winn asked and Kara nodded.

"Plus, you made my original suit, I wouldn't mind you making my new one, but please, go with pants, not a skirt." Kara said.

"You got it." Winn asked.

"So where do you work now, since I'm guessing it's not as an IT guy for Catco?" Kara asked.

"For Luthor Corp." Winn said.

"I can get you your job at the DEO back." Alex offered.

"I appreciate that Alex, but honestly, I prefer to be at Luthor Corp, since while it may be owned by a sociopath and a traitor, I can still do more good there, plus, it couldn't hurt to have someone to keep tabs on Lena at all times." Winn said.

"He's not wrong and I'm assuming that you got some actual combat training during your time in the Legion?" Kara asked.

"Yep. And Luthor Corp has more advanced tech than the DEO, no offense Alex." Winn said.

"None taken, since you're right. However, until Lex is behind bars and Lena proves herself to be trustworthy again, the DEO will have nothing to do with Luthor Corp, especially since J'onn and I are currently trying to keep Luthor Corp from buying the DEO." Alex said.

"Yeah, let's hope that doesn't happen." Winn said.

"Anyways, even after you make my suit, you'll also need to make one for Mon-El to." Kara said.

"Right, J'onn told me you two were back together and personally, I'm glad, since after we returned to the 31st century, he was always distracted. I mean, he still did his job well as the leader of the Legion, but at the same time, I could tell that while his head was in the game, his heart was still here in this century with you." Winn said.

"I know." Kara said.

"They made their love for each other quite clear last night, if the way Kara was walking when she came in this morning was any indication." Alex said.

"Okay, did not need to know that. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm glad that you and Mon-El are clearly happy to be together again, but I don't want to hear about that." Winn said.

"Nor do you need to, since it's private. And if Alex doesn't knock it off, well, I'm sure I could tell Kelly a few things that would ensure that she does walk straight for a while." Kara said.

"Okay, I'm backing off." Alex said, knowing that Kara was serious.

"That's what I thought." Kara said.

"Anyways, why don't I take a look upstairs so I can see what I have to work with." Winn said and Kara nodded as she led him upstairs.

Kara was surprised when she entered her office the next day to find both Winn and Lena waiting for her.

"Winn, I was not expecting you back so soon. With Lena." Kara said.

"Look Kara, I get that you don't trust me anymore, but you cannot ask Winn to use my resources to help in your exploits as Supergirl without involving me." Lena said.

"I know and I shouldn't have asked him to keep you in the dark and for that I'm sorry." Kara said.

"I will let this go as long as you agree to allow me to play a part in this, since my involvement can be useful in more ways than one." Lena said.

"How so?" Kara asked.

"Well for one thing, people will certainly notice if Winn takes up lots of Luthor Corp's resources without any authorization. But if I'm in the fold, no one will bat an eye, since I can say that he's working on something for me." Lena said.

"I see your point." Kara said.

"Look, I really do want to make amends Kara, just give me a chance too." Lena said.

"Fine. But while you may be Winn's boss, for anything Supergirl related, he takes the lead." Kara said.

"Fine. But anyways, we're not just here to get that straightened out, we're also here because by working together, Winn and I were able to get your suit finished overnight." Lena said as Winn reached into his pocket and handed her a watch that was in it.

"A watch?" Kara asked as she took a look at the watch to find that it's face has her family's glyph on it in her suit's color scheme.

"It's not just a watch, it's a nanite carrying case. Once you put it on, my Q-Wave technology will sync the nanites to your subconscious and biometrics, enabling you to activate the suit simply by thinking about it. Winn actually helped me with that." Lena said.

"It's how several of the gadgets on the Legion ship work. The watch scans your biometrics to determine the correct Q-Wave frequency needed to link the nanites to your mind's subconscious." Winn said as Kara placed the watch on her wrist.

"Scanning, Q-Wave frequency detected." she heard an AI say as she could almost feel the waves sync with her mind.

"Q-Wave integration successful. Ready for testing." the AI said and Kara nodded.

"So, now what?" Kara asked.

"Simply think about wearing your suit." Winn said and Kara nodded as she did exactly that and sure enough, the watch released a wave of nanites that formed her suit, even removing her glasses and putting her hair down.

"This doesn't look exactly like my suit." Kara said.

"Yeah, like I said, I had a few ideas for improvements. That's basically the suit I made for you combined with the suit Brainy made for you." Winn said and Kara nodded, since honestly, she had to admit, she did prefer the way this suit felt over the one Brainy had made, since she had to admit, even though she was indestructible, the pants of that suit chafed and it had taken her awhile to get used to it. Fortunately, it looked like Winn and Lena had solved that problem, since this suit was made out of the same material as her first one and was a lot more comfortable.

However, she was drawn from her thoughts when her super hearing picked up a fire.

"Gotta go." Kara said as she super sped out of there.

"Supergirl is back." Winn said with a grin and Lena nodded in agreement as they headed upstairs, since they'd brought a temporary control hub to use as mission control until the real base was fully operational.

"Sir, no matter how much water we pump in, the fire is too hot. We can't get our men in safely." one of the firefighters said to the chief as they attempted to put out the raging fire that had been started out of nowhere at Bushwell Heights apartment complex.

"Damn it, where's Superman when you need him." the chief said as they watched the inferno, feeling powerless as they weren't able to get their men inside to save the remaining people trapped inside the condo building. If Superman were here, he'd not only be able to get inside the building easily, but he'd be able to put out the flames instantly.

"He's not here, but I am." a new voice said and both officers looked up to see a blonde woman wearing a blue suit that bore a very familiar S on her chest hovering over them.

"Who are you?" the chief asked as the mysterious woman smiled kindly at him.

"Someone who's here to help." the woman said as she flew towards the sky and began to create a cloud funnel over the building before using what had to be freeze breath cause the sky to darken into rain clouds, which quickly began to pour water onto the building, which thankfully began to extinguish the blazing inferno the point where the NCFD was able to pump in additional water as the flames finally died down, though the woman still stayed in the air for a few more minutes, squinting hard at what remained of the building before zooming inside just in time to stop the remains of a ceiling from crushing a woman and her daughter who were still stuck on the ground.

"Are you two okay?" Supergirl asked as she used her x-ray vision to check on both people to find that while they both had some burns, that was about the worst of the damage, at least that she could see.

"Who are you?" the girl, who had to be around 5 or 6, asked.

"I'm Supergirl. Now hold on." Supergirl said as she gently picked them both up and flew them out.

"There are more people trapped inside and these two need immediate medical attention." Supergirl said.

"We already have a few ambulances here and more are on their way." the chief said.

"Good. I'll do what I can to help your guys out." Supergirl said and despite the fact that she'd literally just shown up out of nowhere, the chief nodded, since it was clear that whoever this woman was, she shared the symbol, powers and ideals of Superman. Something that made him feel a lot better, especially if she was here to stay.

After she'd rescued everyone, Supergirl finally touched the ground as about a million phones were turned towards her.

"Who are you?" the fire chief asked as he came to greet her.

"Call me Supergirl." Supergirl said with a smile.

"Well, Supergirl, I don't know why you suddenly decided to show up today, but thank god you did. Otherwise things might've turned out very differently for everyone." the fire chief said and Supergirl nodded as she smiled at him before taking off into the sky, leaving everyone in awe at this mysterious new hero.
