Chapter 23

When Alex woke up, she found Kara and Kelly standing over her, both of them having concerned looks on their faces.

"So, how angry are you guys at me?" was the first thing she asked.

"Honestly, right now we're both just relieved that you're alive. Plus, even though you sent yourself there, we still figure that spending time in the phantom zone was punishment enough." Kara said and Kelly nodded in agreement.

"I know, it was a stupid decision." Alex said.

"No Alex, this was far beyond stupid. It was insane. What the hell were you thinking?" Kara demanded.

"I was thinking that if I couldn't save my dad, then at least I could save yours without you having to go back to the Phantom Zone. Though that ended up being for nothing since you ended up having to go in to pull my ass out, along with your dad." Alex said.

"Yeah. Alex, I appreciate the sentiment, I really do, but at the same time, that was probably the worst decision you could've made. You didn't know anything about the Phantom Zone, it's terrain, possible challenges, there were too many unknowns. If you were going to do something that stupid, I thought as a soldier you'd be smart enough to know to get a feel for the terrain first." Kara said.

"I thought I wasn't getting punished." Alex said dryly.

"Never said you weren't getting punished. Just said that it won't be as bad as it could be, since being in the phantom zone was the worst of it." Kara said.

"So, I'm getting lectured." Alex said.

"We could put you on cleaning detail for the Tower for the next month, since you're not going into the field anytime soon." Kelly said.

"Kelly." Alex said.

"No Alex, I'm not just talking as your girlfriend, I'm talking as the team's psychologist and you went through something very traumatic. Even if you weren't in the Phantom Zone for a very long time, you were still in there. There's bound to be psychological effects on you." Kelly said as Alex looked towards Kara.

"I'm sorry Alex, but Kelly's right. Trust me, I wish I could've seen a therapist when I first arrived on Earth. Would've made the transition a lot easier. You might not like it, but I do think that Kelly is right. We just got you back, I don't want to risk you potentially having some kind of episode in the field. That could get you and everyone else killed." Kara said and Alex could tell that Kara was not talking to her as her sister, but as her team's leader, so that made it a bit easier for her to stomach.

"Fine. But please tell me I'll at least be able to keep doing my job at the DEO." Alex said.

"Since that won't require you going into the field anytime soon, yes, mainly because we have no way of controlling that." Kara said.

"And I promise I'll take it easy." Alex promised.

"Good." Kelly said.

"Now, we do have a surprise for you." Kara said as she and Kelly exchanged smiles.

"What are you guys smiling about?" Alex asked as the doors to the medbay opened and she was stunned by who she saw walk in.

"Am I still on any pain medication, because I swear I'm hallucinating." Alex said.

"Really, why?" Kelly asked jokingly.

"Because I swear I see my dad standing in front of me with my mom." Alex said.

"You're not hallucinating Alex. We found him. For real this time." Kara said.

"Dad?" Alex asked and Jeremiah Danvers smiled at his oldest daughter.

"Where?" Alex asked.

"While you were unconscious, my dad decided that the best way to pay off the debt he and my mom feel they owe our family was to find Jeremiah and he did. J'onn, Clark and I raided the Cadmus facility and got him and General Lane to safety." Kara said.

"So, this isn't another trap?" Alex asked Jeremiah, who shook his head.

"No Alex, I promise. This time, I'm here to stay. That is, if you want me too." Jeremiah said.

"Are you kidding. There's nothing I've wanted more." Alex was quick to assure him as Jeremiah walked up and hugged his daughter, Eliza and Kara quickly joined in as Kelly took that as her cue to leave to give the family some privacy.

"You really believe that he is worthy of our daughter?" Zor-El asked Alura as they looked over at Mon-El, who was talking to Imra and Brainy.

"I think our daughter does and Zor-El, you just got Kara back into your life. Do you really want to risk losing her again by refusing to give her boyfriend your blessing. Especially when I've already given him mine." Alura said and Zor-El sighed.

"Honestly, it's more because I still can't stop seeing Kara as anything more than my little girl, especially because the last time I saw her before the Phantom Zone, she was only a teenager. Now she's a grown up woman who has a man that loves her enough to want to marry her. That's hard to wrap my head around." Zor-El admitted.

"And the fact that he's the daxamite prince likely doesn't help much either." Alura said.

"You know what he was like Alura. A crazy, out of control, spoiled frat boy who didn't care about anyone but himself." Zor-El said.

"And he changed. Mostly due to Kara's influence. He's a responsible young man who loves our daughter dearly and would never hurt her." Alura said.

"You really think she's ready for this?" Zor-El asked.

"I think that if we both want to continue to be presences in Kara's life, then we have to accept that she's not the girl she was when we sent her off Krypton. She's a woman who can make her own choices in life. And honestly, one thing this world has over krypton is choice. I'm glad that Kara is able to choose who she loves, instead of having a predetermined mate by the council." Alura said.

"Please tell me that Argo is not still doing that?" Zor-El said and Alura smiled.

"No. One of the first changes we made to our new society was eradicating parts of the system that a majority of our people didn't like. Including forced pairings." Alura said.

"Our people are finally going to be in control of their own destinies." Zor-El said and Alura nodded.

"We learned from the mistakes of Krypton to ensure that what's left of our society does not fall." Alura said.

"Fine, but if he hurts her, I will send him into the phantom zone myself." Zor-El finally conceded.

"A threat I already gave him when he asked for my blessing, but I'm sure he won't mind if you reiterate it." Alura said and Zor-El nodded, since he'd be very happy to let Mon-El know exactly what would happen if he broke his oath.
