Chapter 11

Mon-El was taking deep breaths as he walked through a hallway back in National City, desperately trying to hold onto his courage for what he was about to do, since it was the scariest mission he'd ever been on in his life and for some reason he'd decided that doing it alone was the best option. But he'd chosen to do it now because this was likely the best time to do it since Kara was in Calvintown handling the acquisition of the Gazette there, so now was probably the best time for him to do this.

That was why he walked down the hallway until he finally reached the apartment door before taking a deep breath and knocking on it and was not at all surprised when Kelly Olsen opened the door.

"Mon-El, what a surprise." Kelly said.

"Hey, how's move in day going?" Mon-El asked, since while Alex and Kelly were moving in together, they'd quickly decided that the apartment that Alex had not only spent her bachelorette years in while in this universe, but the one she'd once owned with her ex-fiance in the old reality, was not for them, so now, with Kara's help, they'd found a new, bigger one.

"Pretty well, though we are waiting for your girlfriend to get back so that she can do the heavy lifting, but for the most part we're settled in. But is there something I can do for you?" Kelly asked him.

"You, no. Your girlfriend, yes. I need to talk to her about something important and honestly, now is the best time to do it while Kara is with your brother in Calvintown." Mon-El said and Kelly immediately understood what that meant.

"No wonder you look so nervous." Kelly said.

"Please don't tell anyone. I don't want to risk this getting back to Kara." Mon-El said and Kelly nodded.

"Don't want to get back to Kara?" Alex asked as she exited the bedroom and yes, this time she did get an apartment with a bedroom, which was a relief, since she now realized how many awkward situations not having a real one could've created while having a real relationship like she now had with Kelly.

"I'm going to go see if there's anything else I can get off the truck." Kelly said, deciding to give them some privacy.

"Okay, what was that about? And why are you here without my sister?" Alex asked.

"Don't worry, she's fine, she's in Calvintown with James and Lucy, I'll let her tell you the whole story." Mon-El said and Alex nodded.

"So what brings you here?" Alex asked, though honestly, she had an idea, though she was enjoying how nervous Mon-El looked right now.

"I came here to ask for your permission to ask Kara to marry me." Mon-El said.

"Well, at least you didn't skip over that important step. I honestly thought that you'd only go for my mom, her mom and Clark." Alex said.

"Considering the fact that Kara cares about you more than any of them, of course I'd ask for your blessing." Mon-El said.

"And that alone earns you some points, but you know I'm not just going to give it to you. Not until I know just how committed to her you are." Alex said.

"Alex, you know I wanted to hurt her. I never wanted to leave her. You have no idea how badly I wanted to tell Brainy that I didn't care about the future, that my place was here, with her. How badly I wanted to ask her, to beg her to come with me." Mon-El said.

"But you didn't." Alex noted.

"Because I knew that deep down, she'd always put her duty first. I couldn't ask her to abandon everyone she loved just for me. It wouldn't be fair to her. And I knew that she would tell me that the Legion is where I needed to be, no matter how much I wanted to tell her that they could handle it without me, that Imra was more than capable of leading the Legion in my place. She'd tell me that it was my duty and I couldn't turn my back on it. But everyday after I left, I kept thinking about how I'd come back. How once the fight was over, I'd come back here, back to her and if she'd still have me, I'd never leave her again." Mon-El said.

"You know that losing you the first time destroyed her." Alex said.

"I know. It wasn't easy for me either. Only reason I reacted the way I did was because I'd had seven years to adapt to the idea that I'd never see her again. I moved on, or at least I thought I did." Mon-El said.

"Face it, you could never truly move on from her, just like I know that she could never truly move on from you. That's why she never dated anyone after you. Because I can tell that she was still hoping that someday, you'd come back to her. And that, Mon-El, is why I am going to give you my blessing to marry my little sister, but I want to make something perfectly clear. If you break her heart again in any way, I don't care what the reason for it is, then I will shove as many lead blades into you as I can to make sure that you are in the worst pain of your life before you die. Am I clear?" Alex threatened.

"Crystal. And you know I'd never hurt her. Not again." Mon-El said.

"Good. Then like I said, you do have my permission to marry Kara, but don't make me regret it Mon-El. You may make her happier than anyone else I've ever seen, but at the same time, that's also how I know that you're the one who can hurt her in a way that she can't come back from. She almost didn't last time." Alex said and Mon-El nodded.

"I promise, you won't." Mon-El said.

"You better not." Alex said.
