Chapter 4

"What's going through that head of your's?" Iris asked Barry that night as they laid in bed together.

"I saw Eddie today at work and my joy at him being alive was diminished when I found out." Barry said.

"That he tried to flirt with me." Iris finished.

"Yeah. And I know I'm probably being ridiculous, but Iris, in the old world, you were going to marry him and I can't help but get jealous at the idea of him trying to make that a reality again, especially since we're together now." Barry said.

"I'd be mad at you if I thought that this was coming from you doubting me, since I know that you would never do that." Iris said as she rolled over to face him.

"I don't doubt your commitment to me. To us. But still." Barry said.

"I get it. I mean, if it were Patty, I might feel the same way, since Barry be honest with me, if she hadn't had moved to Midway, you might've considered marrying her wouldn't you?" Iris asked.

"Maybe, but, I think that part of the reason Patty left is because she knew that while I loved her, it was nothing compared to the love I still had for you." Barry said.

"Good answer." Iris said with a smile as she kissed him.

"I think that maybe we should consider bringing Eddie into the fold." Barry said.

"Really, despite what you just said?" Iris asked.

"It'll allow me to lightning punch him." Barry said and Iris smacked him, though she knew he was only half kidding.

"I don't know." Iris said.

"That's only because you don't want to have to have a very difficult conversation with him." Barry said, knowing his fiance well.

"Yeah, well, I'm sure that if you were in my position, you'd do the same. I mean it's gonna be awkward to tell my fiance from another reality that I'm engaged to someone else." Iris said.

"I get that, but I think that it's in Eddie's best interest if we tell him, since we lost him once and if he knows the truth about his ancestor, maybe it can prevent him from having to shoot himself again. I'm not going through that guilt again." Barry said.

"Is that what this is about. Because Eddie's death was not your fault. It was his choice." Iris said.

"But he only made it because I wasn't fast enough to stop Thawne. If I had been, Eddie wouldn't have had to kill himself in order to stop Thawne and the worst part is that it didn't even work. Thawne came back." Barry said.

"But now you are Barry. You are more than fast enough to deal with Thawne." Iris said.

"The question is, what do I do with him when I beat him, since honestly, I'm starting to think that there's only one way I'll ever truly be rid of him." Barry said.

"You want to kill him?" Iris asked.

"Think about it Iris. After everything he's done. Killing my mom, sending my dad to prison, killing countless other people, including Mason Bridges, causing Eddie to kill himself, helping the Earth X Nazis and let's not forget his most recent crime. He cost us our daughter." Barry said.

"I know Barry. And while I understand that you may need to do that, one difference between us now is that now I know what taking a life does to people, since I had to do it more than once when I was in the air force. I actually have a better understanding of Oliver Queen now. Guess having my counterpart's memories is good for more than one thing." Iris said.

"That's because it's not just her memories you have, you also her experiences, her knowledge." Barry said.

"I know. But Barry, it's because of that I'm telling you that while if you decide that you want to go down that path, I will support you, I just don't want you to do it for the wrong reasons. If you kill him, don't do it out of anger or revenge for everything he's done. Do it because it's the only option he's left you." Iris said and Barry nodded, right as he got a thought.

"Except maybe it's not." Barry said.

"What do you mean?" Iris asked.

"I need to talk to Gideon tomorrow, get all the information Thawne has on the negative speed force from her." Barry said.

"Okay, why?" Iris asked.

"Tracy was able to develop a way to develop the speed force prison for Savitar. I don't know if he still exists or not, since I have no intention to ever become him, but at the same time, even if he doesn't, I'm not sure that the speed force prison would hold Thawne since he doesn't draw his power from the speed force anymore." Barry said.

"You think that with that data, we might be able to find a way to trap Thawne in the negative speed force." Iris realized and Barry nodded.

"Trapping Thawne in his own creation. It's poetic justice." Barry said and Iris nodded.

"We'll talk to the team more about the idea tomorrow. For now, let's get some rest." Iris said and Barry nodded as they got comfortable and drifted off into sleep.

"Gideon, what was so urgent that you ran the risk of contacting me?" Thawne asked his AI as he entered the Time Vault.

"I thought you would be interested to know that I am detecting strange dimensional energy signatures throughout Central City. It is as if something or someone is attempting to breach to this universe from another one." Gideon said as she showed him a map of Central City with points indicating where the dimensional energy flare ups were being triggered.

"Have you been able to tell what exactly is causing these flare ups?" Thawne asked.

"No sir." Gideon said.

"Does this pose any kind of threat to my plans?" Thawne asked.

"Not at the moment, but I keep monitoring them. However, I do feel inclined to add that you will not be able to keep these hidden from sight forever. It's only a matter of time until Barry Allen and his associates discover these energy spikes, especially if you are correct about Mr. Ramon." Gideon said.

"If Cisco has once again become Vibe, then he would be able to detect these energy flare ups and even be able to manipulate them." Thawne said.

"He could bring whoever or whatever it is that is attempting to breach our universe through." Gideon said.

"Or, by the same means, seal the energy before it's able to break through the dimensional barrier." Thawne said.

"How would you like to proceed?" Gideon asked.

"Keep monitoring the situation for me. For right now, we'll leave it be, since I don't want to end up drawing suspicion. See if you can determine what is attempting to breach through to our reality at each flare up location. I will begin trying to see if I can find a way to prevent that without having to resort to using Cisco to do so, especially since we do not know for sure if he has powers yet." Thawne said.

"As you wish Professor Thawne." Gideon said as Thawne sat back down in his wheelchair and wheeled out, unaware that Gideon had sent their entire conversation to Barry, per his instructions.
