Cisco and Caitlin were surprised when Jesse entered the cortex. Not because she came speeding in, but because when she arrived, he looked like she was losing control and actually fell to the ground as she stopped.

"Jesse, are you okay?" Caitlin asked as she and Cisco helped her up.

"I don't know. I feel different. Like I did before I got my speed." Jesse said.

"Come on, we should run some tests." Caitlin said as she led Jesse into the medbay, right as Barry and Harry arrived.

"Harry, it's so good to see you." Cisco said as he hugged his old friend.

"Likewise. Especially since I'm once again smarter than you." Harry said and Cisco smiled and rolled his eyes at that.

"Good, because we're gonna need your brain now more than ever." Barry said.

"He's not wrong. Guys, get in here." Caitlin said from medbay as she finished running tests on Jesse.

"What's going on?" Barry asked.

"Jesse's cells are not showing any trace of the speed force in them. It's as if she drained her powers by running here." Caitlin said.

"How is that possible?" Barry asked.

"I don't know. Considering the fact that dad and I spent, well I don't know how long in the speed force, I thought that my speed would be even faster." Jesse said.

"How did you guys end up in the speed force. I didn't see you the last time I was there and that was after the Anti Monitor wiped out the multiverse." Barry said.

"It was right before the anti matter wave hit our earth. It was too unexpected, dad and I didn't have time to find an extrapolator to earth one, so I did the next thing. I grabbed him and ran into the speed force. What I didn't count on was us getting stuck there." Jesse said.

"So the speed force protected you both from the end of the multiverse." Cisco said.

"Yeah, but for some reason, it wouldn't let us leave. I still think that it intentionally separated us." Harry said.

"How is it possible for Harry to have been in the speed force without being in direct contact with a speedster?" Caitlin asked.

"It's not impossible. When I took the paragons through the speed force to the dawn of time, we were attacked by the anti monitor and separated. Sara, Oliver, Kate and J'onn were all able to exist in there for a short time without being with me, though that might be because Oliver was using his spectre powers to keep us from falling out of the speed force." Barry said.

"Wait, you traveled to the dawn of time?" Harry asked and Barry nodded.

"Yeah, in fact, I helped ignite the big bang of this universe. Long story." Barry said.

"I bet. But anyways, I'm willing to bet that whatever you did during your crisis has something to do with why Jesse has lost her powers and why we were stuck in the speed force for so long." Harry said.

"Only way to find out. Caitlin, keep running tests on Jesse and also run some on Harry and Cisco, start working on the speedster trap, we're gonna need it sooner than we thought." Barry said and Cisco nodded.

"What are you going to do?" Jesse asked.

"If I'm gonna find out what's going on with your powers right now, then there's only one place to start looking. I'm going into the speed force myself to find out what's wrong with it." Barry said.

"Be careful Allen. I don't remember much about what happened there, but I can tell you this much, there's something wrong with it." Harry said.

"I just hope it's not what I think it is." Barry said as he thought back to what Thawne had said and he was desperately hoping that he was lying, but he knew he needed to find out for sure and speeding off before anyone could ask him what he meant.

It took Barry longer than usual to gain enough speed to enter the speed force, but when as soon as he entered the portal, he could immediately tell something was off.

"What's going on here?" Barry asked.

"We're dying Barry Allen." A familiar voice said and Barry turned around to find himself back in his childhood bedroom, with what looked like his mother lying in the bed, but she looked sick.

"What? How is that even possible?" Barry asked as he rushed to her side, refusing to believe that this was actually happening.

"Because of what you did." the speed force said.

"What do you mean by what I did?" Barry asked.

"A few days ago, an unknown energy entered the speed force. It was unlike anything we'd ever encountered and it has already begun to destabilize the speed force. We can't contain it much longer and soon it will destroy us." the speed force said.

"The spectre's energy. I didn't know." Barry said as he realized that what he'd made Oliver do was the cause of this.

"It's okay Barry Allen. You did what you had to do to save the world. We don't blame you for this." the speed force said.

"How can I fix this? Just tell me what to do and I will do it. It's only been a few days, there has to be something I can do to get the energy out." Barry said.

"No, it's too late. We don't know how much time is left, but you need to spend it preparing to go on without us." the speed force said.

"That's why Jesse didn't get faster while being in here and why her speed disappeared almost as soon as she left. You drained it from her didn't you?" Barry asked and the speed force nodded.

"We didn't want to, she was one of our chosen ones like you, but we had no choice. We needed to hang on until you came here for yourself and that unfortunately meant that we had to keep her with us until we'd drained her of her power completely." the speed force said.

"Take my speed too. If Jesse's speed can help sustain you, then surely mine could too. It's strong enough that it might even be able to heal you." Barry said, desperate to correct his mistake.

"No Barry. The world needs the Flash now more than ever, especially since your opposite has returned." the speed force said.

"I can't fight Thawne without you. Without my speed at full strength, I don't stand a chance against him. And he'll kill everyone I care about. My father, Iris, Joe, Wally, Cisco, Caitlin, Ralph, he'll kill them all in a heartbeat." Barry said.

"I am sorry Barry. But we can't hold on much longer. We've hung on this long in order to be able to say goodbye to you." the speed force said.

"No please, there has to be something I can do." Barry said.

"I'm sorry, but there isn't. All we can say now is that you only have a few steps left before we're gone from you forever. And we know that you'll put them to good use. We chose you wisely Barry Allen." The speed force said.

"Please, there has to be something I can do." Barry begged as the speed force winced in pain.

"Remember, you are the paragon of love. So run Barry and don't stop. Run towards love." The speed force said as she closed her eyes and Barry could feel it die and he mourned it before he felt himself being ejected out of it and into the time vault.

"What have I done?" Barry asked himself as he wept to himself before he had go and tell the others.
