Chapter Sixty Six
Kefira was looking forward to Defense Against the Dark Arts class, after last year, she liked to pretend that Lockhart never happened. She was quite curious about Professor Lupin, considering he seemed like a normal and nice enough fellow aboard the Hogwarts Express. She expected it to be a much better year, then again she also believed a hamster was far more capable of teaching than Lockhart.
She walked into the classroom to see Professor Lupin standing in the middle of the classroom getting ready to greet his incoming class.
"Hi!" Kefira greeted him first.
"Hello...Miss-"
"Kefira Walsh." she introduced herself.
"Ah right, Miss Walsh. By any chance, did you have any family that attended Hogwarts prior to you?"
"No, Sir." Kefira shook her head. "My parents are what they call muggles. Although, they normally respond very well to Cardel and Alana."
The man chuckled. "I'm sure."
Remus looked at the young teen that stood before him as she became distracted by other students walking in that seemed to be her friends. He saw the one called Neville Longbottom and swallowed as he remembered Alice and Frank. He rubbed the back of his neck as his focus fell back onto the red headed girl. There were obvious differences between the girl and his dear late friend, but he couldn't help be caught off guard every time he saw her.
Her red hair was far more unruly than what Lily had kept hers, but the red added with the bright green eyes made him do a double take each time. Then on top of that to see Harry walk in, it was like looking at miniature versions of former Order members.
To keep himself from staring, he decided to welcome the students and get started with the lesson.
In the middle of the room there was a wardrobe, that seemed normal, until it shook. Kefira was standing between Seamus and Neville when she felt Neville grab hold of her hand as his nerves got the best of him.
She gave him a comforting smile and squeezed his hand in return.
"Intriguing, yes? Would anyone like to venture a guess as to what's inside?" Professor Lupin said.
"That's a boggart, that is." Seamus said in a hushed tone.
"Very good, Mr. Finnigan. Can anyone tell us what a Boggart looks like?"
"No one knows." Hermione answered from the back of the classroom. "Boggarts are shape-shifters. They take the shape of whatever a particular person fears most. That's what makes it so ...."
"Terrifying, yes. Luckily, a very simple charm exists to repel a Boggart. Let's practice it now, shall we? Without wands,please... Riddikulus!" Professor Lupin lifted his hands to signal the students to try it out.
"Riddikulus!"
"Good. So much for the easy part. You see, the incantation alone is not enough. What really finishes a Boggart off is...laughter. You need to force it to assume a shape you find truly amusing. Neville, come up here, will you?"
Neville looked to Kefira who nodded in encouragement. "Go on, you can do it."
"What would you say is the thing that frightens you most?" Professor Lupin asked him.
Neville mumbled some response.
"Didn't catch that, Neville, sorry."
"Professor Snape."
Kefira frowned to hear that her friend held such a fear for the man.
"Hmmm... yes. Neville, I believe you live with your grandmother?"
"Yes, but I don't want the Boggart to turn into her either." Neville told him.
"It won't. But I want you to picture her clothes, only her clothes, very clearly in your mind. Can you do that?"
Neville began to envision his grandmother's usual attire while Professor Lupin prepared to release the boggart.
When the door opened, the Boggart took form of Professor Snape strolling out of the wardrobe.
"Think, Neville. Think!" Professor Lupin encouraged him.
"R-r-r-riddikulus!"
Suddenly, Professor Snape went from his usual dark robes to wearing the clothes of Augusta Longbottom.
Kefira broke into laughter along with the other students and then the fun began as all the students were to go up one by one.
It was amusing to see all the students face their fears and turn them into something silly.
Neville looked to Kefira who seemed to be enjoying herself in the beginning of the lesson, but when her turn neared, the smile had faded from her face. He looked to Dean, Seamus and Faye, who were probably wondering the same thing he was.
What did Kefira Walsh fear the most?
He watched as she was the next up, her hand was gripping her wand tightly. He could see her swallow hard as she took her position of the Boggart. The creature began to transform to take form of Kefira's fear.
Kefira wished she feared the things her classmates did like spiders or a vampire, but as the Boggart took form, she found it quite hard to face it.
Unlike her classmates fear of creepy crawlies and things that went bump in the night, Kefira found herself facing herself in Boggart form.
But it wasn't like looking at her reflection. The Kefira before her wasn't the Kefira everyone knew, it was the Kefira that Kefira feared the most.
Doctors once told her parents that she wouldn't live to see her first birthday, that she was too weak and sick and if she did end up surviving she wouldn't be able to do much of anything.
Kefira couldn't even bring herself to raise her wand to face off the boggart with something humorous.
Neville stood in shock, when he thought of something that could possibly scare Kefira, he imagined one of the scariest demon like creatures to take form. He never expected to see the bravest person he had ever met to fear herself. But it wasn't normal self she feared. The Boggart Kefira appeared quite sick, fragile, attached to all sorts of medical equipment he couldn't identify.
The class became silent as they heard the boggart let out a painful sounding cough, as Kefira looked down to the ground, shaking her head.
Suddenly, she dropped her wand and left the classroom quickly. Neville looked to Professor Lupin who nodded in his direction before he tried to get the class back to the lesson.
Kefira stormed out of the classroom and left down the hallway trying to fight back any tears that threatened to fall. She wasn't looking where she was going and crashed into a body.
She sniffed and looked up to see Professor Snape before her.
"Miss Walsh what are you doing out of class ag-" The man was cut off as Kefira quickly wrapped her arms around him and began crying into his robes.
Thank you for the fan art of Kefira @sarena101! It's lovely!
