Chapter One Hundred Fifty Four
As the countdown to the ball began, it was impossible to even get a glimpse in one of the mirrors as everyone was crowding around to look. Kefira sat on her bed, with her dress robes laying out beside her when Parvati came in looking at her. She was all dressed in her traditional robes, making last minute adjustments to her attire and hair.
"Kefi! You're not even in your dress robes, why?"
Kefira shrugged. "Like I said earlier, I'm not trying to get killed on Christmas. It's a madhouse in there." She pointed in the direction of the bathrooms.
"But you haven't even started on your hair!" Parvati made it sound like Kefira had committed the biggest crime in history by not doing anything to her mane.
"I was thinking about wearing it like this," Kefira said, playing with one of her curls.
Parvati looked about ready to just faint right on the bedroom floor. "You're killing me, Kefi. It's the Yule Ball, this isn't going to come around again. Don't you want to make a good impression for the other schools?"
"I already made a good impression, at least with Durmstrang," Kefira told her. "Beauxbatons is a little too frou-frou for my liking. Plus, I think I'm too loud to hang around in their company."
"Alright fine, but what about Neville?" Parvati knew exactly where to drag the topic to get her point across.
"What about Neville?" The girl's tone became defensive, causing Parvati to take a couple of steps back.
"Well, don't you want to change it up for him? You know, let him see a different side to you?"
"I wasn't aware I had different sides to show off," Kefira muttered.
"I'm not saying it in a bad way," the girl walked over and sat beside her. "I'm just saying that he sees you every day, and it might be a nice surprise for him to see you with maybe a different hairstyle."
Kefira blew one of the curls out of her face with a heavy sigh. "You're not going to leave me alone until I agree to something, are you?"
Parvati grinned before calling out Lavender's name loudly.
"Now, wait, why are you getting her involved?!"
Being one of the last of the girls to get ready, once Kefira's hair had been fixed by Lavender and Parvati, she was left to get into her robes. She slid into them carefully, not really bothering to check herself in the mirror. She wasn't sure if she was going to like what she saw. Her wild hair was part of her and she didn't have a problem with it, but it was just for one night, so it couldn't hurt.
Hermione was still in the dorms as well, as the two girls nearly crashed into each other. Kefira smiled as the girl appeared rather jittery.
"Kefira?" The girl's eyes widened for a brief second, without the poofy curls, the girl was almost unrecognizable and Kefira seemed just as surprised by Hermione's appearance as well.
"Your hair looks amazing," Kefira told her, she went to reach out and touch it but stopped herself from doing so in fear of messing it up.
"Mine? Look at yours!" Hermione smiled. "I don't think I've ever seen you without the curls."
"I know," Kefira said, "I feel bald right now without my mane."
"How much of the Sleekeazy did it take for you?" Hermione asked. "Took me several bottles."
"I have no idea. Lavender and Parvati just went mad with the stuff. It smells good, though, so that's a plus."
"Indeed it is," Hermione chuckled. The two wished each other a good night before Hermione left first to meet up with her date. Kefira slipped her shoes on before heading out herself.
She was meeting Bisera near the Entrance Hall as agreed by the two of them. But apparently, she had arrived early as Bisera was nowhere in sight. Rather than just standing around, the girl decided to chat with an old friend.
"My, my, my! I almost did not recognize the lion without the mane!"
Kefira let out a laugh before smiling in Godric Gryffindor's direction as she stood before the portrait.
"Hey, I still have my mane, it's just a bit flat today," she said. "Rest assure that it will be back tomorrow, or by the end of the night. The last time my hair was straightened it only lasted about an hour, even though it took Rosemary three to get it that way. Hopefully magic will have better results."
"Straightening a mane," Godric said shaking his head. "It should not be allowed, it is the best part of being a lion."
"Well lionesses don't have manes, to begin with, and they are far more fierce than their male counterparts," Kefira informed him crossing her arms.
The painting let out a hearty laugh before nodding his head. "I see you have proved that numerous times, little one."
"Kefi?"
She heard her name being called in the corridor, she quickly shot a wink and wave in Godric's direction before heading out to see Bisera. The girl was wearing some very heavy looking, and brown dress robes, but she looked really comfortable.
"I really need to get Hogwarts on the bandwagon for the Durmstrang fashion, you all always look so warm and comfortable," Kefira told her as the girl reached her side.
"I will be dying by the end of the night," Bisera told her. "I am boiling hot right now. But look at your hair, I didn't realize it was so long."
Kefira looked down and her hair that rested far past her shoulders.
"I know, my curls are like an illusion, there's so much there, but it just looks like there's not much there."
"Well, regardless, you look beautiful tonight, Kefi," Bisera told her as she blushed slightly herself.
Kefira grinned in her direction. "Thanks!" she said. "And you look great too! Are you ready to head in and get to partying? Because I definitely have plenty of energy that I need to dance off."
She grabbed Bisera by the hand and pulled her along.
"Eh, Kefi, I'm not exactly a good dancer," the girl said.
"Who cares?" Kefira said still walking forward. "Neither am I, but it's so much better when you just let loose."
