Chapter Fifty Five
Kefira was happy enough to be back among her friends as they welcomed her back and filled her in on everything she missed. While she had missed out on a great portion of the school year, it seemed like a pleasant treat as Dumbledore announced that the end of the year exams were canceled.
Celebrating by jumping up and down on her bed, Kefira caught sight of Hermione sitting on her bed, shaking her head as if she were disappointed. She stopped jumping and hopped down from her bed walking over to the girl.
"Why do you look so upset? You should be thrilled, Hermione. No exams!" Kefira said to her.
Hermione groaned and rolled over on her side so that she was facing away from Kefira.
"Suit yourself then." Kefira said before heading down the stairs to the common room. She found Faye and Dean talking as they sat across from each other in the comfy armchairs.
"What are you two up to?" she asked.
"Nothing really." Dean said. "What about you?"
"I was thinking about going to talk to Professor Snape."
"Why would subject yourself to such torture?" Faye questioned.
Kefira shook her head at them. "Professor Snape is really cool, once you get passed his grumpiness."
"Kefi, there's no getting passed his grumpiness." Dean said. "He's a solid grump."
"No, I think that's just a face he puts on."
"Well, he wears it quite well." Faye added.
Kefira waved them off and left the Common Room, to roam through the castle in search of the professor.
Much to Severus' dismay, it didn't take the little one long to find him as he was on his way back to the potion's classroom.
"Miss Walsh, all the other students are enjoying their days outside of the classroom, why do you feel the need to be in my presence?" he questioned with an eye roll trying to rid her.
"I dunno." Kefira shrugged. She sat down on one of the tables until he gave her a knowing look. She slid off and sat in one of the chairs.
"Why are you here?" Severus asked her.
"I feel like I missed out so much this year." she admitted. "I missed out on lessons-"
"Lessons you probably would have skipped anyways." Severus said.
"True," she smiled, " but normally you help me make them up."
"You don't give me an option otherwise."
"Well, I wish I could have learned more this year considering it's going to be my last." she told him with a sad tone.
"Why do you say that?" he said as he didn't look up at her, but instead kept his focus on some papers on his desk.
"Because my parents are never going to let me come back here. Not after what happened. My mum freaks out when I scrape my knee playing outside..I can't imagine how they reacted when they heard about this."
"Not well." Severus replied under his breath.
"Am I going to be able to keep my stuff?" she asked him. "Like my books and my wand?"
Glancing up from his papers for a mere second, Severus saw the concern written on the girl's face as she actually believed it was the last time she would be at the school.
"You may keep them, but you are not permitted to use magic outside of school." he informed her.
"Bummer." she groaned. "What's the point of keeping all this stuff then? It's practically useless outside of here."
"Keep it." That's all he said.
"But-"
"Do not argue with me, Miss Walsh."
She chuckled. "Alright, alright."
Severus ignored her believing she would leave like she normally did, but when he looked up, he nearly faltered with his usually stern expression, as Kefira stood in front of him.
"What are you doing?" he hissed as she laughed.
"Sorry!" she said holding up her hands. " I was going to ask you a question."
"And you could not ask it from a distance?"
"No. Well, I guess I could but I didn't want to."
"Ask your question so that I may answer and so that you can leave sooner."
Kefira rested her hands on his desk. "Did you read the joke book I got you?"
The girl had hoped that he had at least gotten through some of the book.
"No, I haven't opened it." the professor answered her.
She frowned. "Why not? It's supposed to make you smile."
"Because I do not find jokes such as those funny." he said.
Kefira narrowed her eyes at him. "Wait a second, how do you know what kind of jokes are in the book if you haven't even opened it?"
The man said nothing as he remained still at his desk.
The smile on her face grew wider and wider. "So you do like the joke book, don't you? I bet you found all of the jokes hilarious, didn't you?!"
"Not at all." he responded through gritted teeth.
'I don't believe you."
"I don't care."
He gave her a dirty look wanting her to leave the classroom, her laugh rang through his ears only irritating him more as he stared down at his desk.
"Miss Walsh if you don't leave-" he glanced up but she was gone.
