Chapter Fifty Eight
"Okay, Neville, so the point of this game is to find someone throughout the house." Kefira said to the boy.
"Blindfolded?"
"Yes."
"But why blindfolded?" Neville questioned.
"Why not?"
"That's not the response I was looking for." Neville said.
Kefira giggled. "It's fun Neville, that's all you need to know." she said as she tied to cloth around the boy's eyes. "Now, once I spin you three times, you have to go looking around."
"But won't I walk into things?"
"More than likely!"
"I don't think-" Before he could say anything else, Kefira spun him around three times and took off leaving him to find someone throughout the house.
Kefira didn't move far, while she had ran off, she only jumped onto the sofa and remained quiet as Neville stumbled around.
"Oh it's almost cruel to let the boy play this game." Alana whispered in the kitchen to Cardel.
"Why? I played this game all the time when I was Kefi's age."
Suddenly, Neville crashed to the floor after tripping over a rug.
Alana flinched at the sound.
"Perhaps you should give him a hint, god knows you give Kefira enough of them when she plays." Alana said.
"I thought it was cheating?" Cardel smirked.
"Well, if you don't do it, I will."
The two of them flinched again as Neville crashed into something else.
"Yeah, I'll help him before he destroys the house."
Nellie, Lottie and Rosemary were sitting on the steps leading up to the home outside, as Neville and Kefira were out in the yard. Their parents had gone out to town for some shopping leaving the older siblings in charge of watching the two.
"He's a bit of scaredy cat, isn't he?" Lottie said. "Jumps at his own shadow half the time. I'm surprised Kefira would befriend such a boy. I mean, she swings from trees, he falls to the ground."
"Be nice Lottie." Rosemary scolded the girl.
"I'm not being mean! I was always saying.. you've seen him, haven't you?"
"Yes, I have Lottie." Rosemary said. "And sure he's a bit clumsy, but he's really sweet and kind. I think that's what Kefira's been looking for around here. You know her, she hasn't been able to befriend any boy without punching them in the face. I think he's rather special to her."
"Well, I for one think he's adorable." Nellie said. " They'll be quite the couple later on in life."
"Nellie!" Rosemary and Lottie scoffed.
"What? You don't see it?" Nellie said.
"No way." Lottie shook her head. "She might be friends with him, but I could never see Kefira end up with a boy like that."
"And why not?" Rosemary asked her.
"Because Kefira's too..too...I don't know the word to describe her, but he wouldn't be able to keep up with her in the long run."
"I don't think that's true at all." Rosemary said resting her elbows upon her knees. " They are still growing up, so don't count him out just yet, Lottie."
"Exactly." Nellie agreed. "I think the more time he spends around Kefi, the more he'll grow so he can be the person that would be perfect for Kefi. But you know it's not just the effect Kefi has on him, I think he has an effect on her as well."
"You both are bloody mad." Lottie said with a shake of her head. "Kefi has been the same person she's always been. She hasn't changed a bit. She's hyper, loud, funny and wild. Been that way since she could make sounds."
The sisters shared in a laugh.
"You don't see it now Lottie, but you will. You'll see." Rosemary smiled.
"Should we be down here by ourselves?" Neville asked as Kefira rolled up the legs of her pants as they reached the stream.
"Uh..yeah? Why?"
"Well..."
"Neville, do you really need an escort everywhere you go?" she said him as she hopped out onto a stone.
"I suppose not but then again I wouldn't know."
"Doesn't your grandmother let you explore?"
"No." Neville said as he held Trevor in his hands. "I think she's afraid that I would get hurt."
Kefira shook her head. "If you live in fear of getting hurt, you're not living Neville. You're supposed to get hurt....at least while you're young and able to recover quicker."
"I don't want to get hurt." Neville said.
"Well, no one ever wants to get hurt. I mean if they did, we'd have much to question about them wouldn't we? What I meant was, exploring the world, it's more than likely going to get you hurt but once you recover, it makes one heck of a good story. Don't you want to be able to tell your own stories one day?" she asked him as she hopped onto another stone.
She held out her hand for him to take.
Neville stared at the water for a moment before nodding his head and then taking her hand. She smiled as she helped him across to the other side of the water.
Trevor waited until both of them had crossed before hopping across using the stones as well, and followed as if he was keeping a watchful eye on the two.
