Seven
HARRY
Sighing, I lay in bed comfortably while looking through the window near me in the Winsley's guest bedroom. It's rainy and dreary, the raindrops racing each other down the glass.
It's seven am, and I've been up since four am for an unknown reason. I fell asleep at one, which is nothing new, work usually has me up later than that.
After tucking Poppy in, I knew I should probably stay here for the night, which I did. I found the massive, luxurious guest room down the hallway from Poppy's bedroom, and went straight to sleep.
I have today off, so right now I'm staring out of the window and thinking of my plans for today.
But, a small voice interrupts my thoughts.
"Harry?"
I immediately sit up and open the door. I'm greeted by a very frightened Poppy with bulged eyes and shaky hands. "Poppy? Poppy what's wrong?"
She turns around, slowly pointing towards the staircase. "I heard someone, down there," she whispers, gulping. "Were you just downstairs?"
"No.. I've been in here all day, are you sure you heard something or someone?"
"I.. I heard someone I swear it!" She whispers, frantically looking all around here. Before I can say anything, she's slowly inching towards the staircase, and then darting down.
"Poppy no!" I call out, chasing after her. But she's already near the kitchen searching wildly. She's out of her mind. She's probably just paranoid.
"Stop it Poppy, there's nobody here," I sigh, watching her check room to room.
"I heard something! I swear I did," She growls, still searching. I shake my head and walk over to her, placing my hand on her shoulder. "Poppy, look at me." She slowly turns to face me.
"You're just paranoid, let's go get something to eat and we'll come back and paint, like you wanted to, how's that sound?" I comfort her, looking right into her frantic baby blue eyes. She sighs, her breathing not as wild. "But I swear I heard something, Harry."
I shake my head, lifting her chin up slightly so her eyes are looking right into mine. "Nobody is here, and if they are, I'll protect you, nobody's gonna hurt you, love."
Poppy just nods, sighing.
--
We're currently sitting in a small yet nice and comfortable Japanese restaurant. I think that's Poppy and I's dinner tradition now. Small, nice, and cozy restaurants. Not bad, though. It's a nice little tradition.
The chefs are cooking our sushi in front of us, so quickly and precisely it amazes Poppy and I.
Poppy admires the food being thrown up in the air with amazement in her bright blue eyes. I take a minute to get a good look at her. Her beautiful, silky light brown hair in two French braids, her little button nose that scrunches up when she's happy, and that cute little baby pink dress she has on, glimmering diamond earrings to match.
Poppy really is a beautiful young girl, and the man who ends up with her is lucky. He might have grey hairs two months into the relationship, but he'll still be the luckiest guy in the world to have her.
"Harry?" she asks, turning to face me, but I'm already looking at her. "Can we go shopping on the way home?" Hmm.. Shopping with a teenage girl with enough money on her debit card to buy the entire mall.. This is going to be a long day.
"Alright," I decide. If I say no, she'll talk me into it anyway.
Poppy just smiles and jumps in joy when she sees her freshly made food on her plate. I chuckle at her enthusiasm she always has for food.
We eat our delicious food while talking about random things, and I can't help but feel closer to her. It's weird being around a teenager all the time, but at the same time, it's kind of refreshing. I'm so used to being around boring, wealthy older men. Not lively, energy-filled teenagers. It's a good change I suppose.
Nonetheless, it's fun being around Poppy. There's never a dull moment when I'm with her. Though we just met not too long ago, I feel like we're getting somewhere. And that makes me feel great.
After eating, Poppy and I get into my car and make our way to the mall.
"Most of these songs on the radio make me want to jab my eyes out with a pair of scissors," Poppy groans. I chuckle, changing the station.
"....Baby lock them doors and turn the locks down low," The radio sings, making me burst out laughing and Poppy gag.
"Ew! Country? Harry.. You've gotta be kidding me!" She chuckles, quickly turning the volume all the way down.
We continue to laugh, and the only thing that matters right now is Poppy's melodic laughter and my sudden interest in American girls.
